Remember that International Women’s Day poem I wrote and performed here?

Wellllll… its story isn’t done yet.

I Come From an Island began as a poem I wrote during a class offered through @curiosityclubcreative , where Jourdan of @margaretjourdanstudios was inspired to bring it to film. Now, it has been accepted into the 2026 Lumière Arts Festival.

Exploring this year’s theme of Metamorphosis, the film will move between my on-camera monologue and my voice carrying over footage submitted by women with ties to Cape Breton–Unama’ki.

A story told in my voice, but carried by many of us.

And this is where you come in.

We’re looking for short, natural video clips of you simply living your life. Creating. Cooking. Working. Building. Mothering. Caretaking. Making art. Practising a hobby. Spending time on the land or water. Anything that makes you feel strong, alive, resilient or entirely yourself.

Young or old. Living on the island or away. We want to show the many lives, generations and expressions of womanhood shaped by this place.

We would especially love older footage of mothers, grandmothers and the women who came before us, as long as you have permission for it to be shared.

One of the biggest misconceptions about tarot

A Little More Present | An Evening of Everyday Mindfulness 🍂

As we head into the colder months, I wanted to put together a little evening exploring something I think we could all benefit from bringing more of into our everyday lives.

Mindfulness.

Especially for those of us who have tried meditation, struggled to quiet our minds, or just never really known where to begin.

We'll talk about some of the common misconceptions around mindfulness and meditation, explore how our minds and nervous systems work, and try some simple grounding techniques, gentle breathwork, and body-awareness practices.

The idea is to discover that mindfulness doesn't have to be complicated, and there are plenty of ways to practice it without sitting still and trying to think about nothing.

A relaxed evening of learning, conversation, and tea, with a few practical things to take home and carry into the winter months.

Yesterday, I turned 35. 🤎

This past weekend, Charley and I wandered into the woods to have @kaleygracie take some photos of us. I wanted to capture this birthday because something about turning 35 felt different.

A little quieter. A little sturdier. A little more rooted in who I am.

This birthday feels less about celebrating another year older and more about appreciating the woman those years have made me.

At 35, I'm finding a beautiful sense of wisdom, confidence, and perspective. Not because I have everything figured out, but because I'm finally feeling grounded in my body, my mind, and the life I've built. And with that comes the feeling that I'm getting closer to the mother I've always wanted to be.

I became a mother young, and in so many ways, my children and I have grown up together. Charley has been such a big part of that. She's experienced some awfully big things for such a little girl, and raising her has challenged me to find strength, patience, and understanding in ways I never expected. To protect her softness while teaching her strength, and to give her the steadiness and security every child deserves.

The woods have always been a special place for Charley and me. Somewhere we've shared our love of nature, our curiosity, and the freedom to just be ourselves. Having these photos taken there felt right for this birthday, capturing the two of us at this point in our lives, with so much history behind us and so much still ahead.

There's plenty more life I want to live, but I'm not in quite such a hurry to get somewhere else.

I like where I am. I like who I'm becoming. And I love that my children get to know this version of me, too.

Here's to 35. A little wiser, a little softer, a little sturdier, and still every bit as curious about the world. 🤎 taken in Cape Breton Island by @thewitchingpost_
