Þingflokkur, ráðherrar og starfsfólk Viðreisnar komu saman á dögunum til vinnudags í fallegu umhverfi í Ölfusi. Þar fórum við yfir það sem hefur áunnist og mikilvægustu verkefnin framundan. 🧡

Canada is home to the largest Icelandic community outside Iceland, reflecting generations of friendship between our peoples. As Arctic nations and NATO Allies, our security and prosperity are closely connected.

In Reykjavík, @thorgerdurk and I discussed defence, trade and investment, and the rights of women and girls. We also agreed to establish a geothermal network bringing together industry, Indigenous partners and governments to advance clean energy in the North.

This year’s Arctic Circle Assembly conference was attended by European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela, who visited Iceland on 7–8 October. In addition to attending the conference, Commissioner Síkela took part in a range of meetings and events aimed at advancing the EU’s engagement and partnerships in the Arctic and North Atlantic, including with the Foreign Ministers of Iceland and Canada, respectively, and the Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands. The Commissioner also met with youth representatives from the Arctic to hear their perspectives and explore how the EU can better engage with young people living in the Arctic, raise awareness of the opportunities available through EU cooperation, and support them as they take their first steps into adulthood.

Commissioner Síkela participated in the main Plenary session of the conference, where in his speech he highlighted five key priorities for the region:
🔹 Investing in the Arctic in ways that benefit its people
🔹 Developing a vision for the Northern Neighbourhood
🔹 Strengthening security and resilience with like-minded partners
🔹 Promoting sustainable development through the EU’s Global Gateway initiative
🔹 Accelerating action to combat climate change

Against a backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions across the Arctic, Europe and beyond, the Commissioner stressed the importance of closer cooperation between the EU and Arctic states to build a more secure, resilient, and sustainable future for the region.

Yemen remains one of the world’s most severe and complex humanitarian crises, with more than 22 million people, half of them women and girls, in need of urgent assistance and protection this year.

Many pregnant women reach health facilities severely exhausted, malnourished, and anaemic—their bodies simply unequipped for the demands of pregnancy.

Fewer than two thirds of health facilities are fully functional, and of them only 20 per cent provide maternal health services.

Thanks to funding from #Iceland, among others, @UNFPA has reached approximately 400,000 people so far in 2026 with life-saving reproductive health and protection services.

UNFPA is the the sole provider of, women-led safe spaces and reproductive health medicines in Yemen, keeping life-saving care within reach for every woman🩺

Thank you Iceland, for being a firm supporter of women's rights! 🇮🇸

Hafnarfjörður og Kópavogur – og þar með höfum við heimsótt öll sex sveitarfélögin í Kraganum! 🙌
