My greatest source of inspiration is nature. And my next greatest source of inspiration is others who are inspired by nature.

@handmade.with.lauren just released her pattern for the Panorama Sweater — a beautiful cabled pattern inspired by the panoramas of British Columbia. It is a really special design and it was an honour to test it, especially as my first cabled project! 🏔️🌲🌊

Details 🌟 Panorama Sweater by @handmade.with.lauren with @briggslittle Heritage in Navy Blue from @fiafiayarns and @wooltrends709. A Canadian project through and through, and I just really love that.

This is Lauren’s first pattern release and if it is any indication of where her designs are headed, we are all in for a treat. 💙

This rusty red is reminding me of cardinals, bricks, warmth, blood and all the life spring brings. 🩸

I’m trying to practice fixing things I don’t like about the things I’ve made. I knew the minute I finished the collar on this cardigan that I didn’t like it. That was in November and while I only got around to it now, I’m so glad I did. I may even do it again! Arguably, this is the best part about crafting slowly. Being able to come back to it again and again until you love it enough to wear it forever.

Also, I’ve managed to smile a whole two times since this @noahkahanmusic album came out, as seen here.

Definitely listened to the Outlander soundtrack while making this but this is the song stuck in my head right now. 🤠

Most days I do pretend I’m with my 17th century fairy ancestors in the Scottish Highlands and when my brother brought me the most beautiful rustic Aran yarn from Ireland, I knew I needed to make something in honour of that vision. 🌟

An inspiration photo of a shrug/capelet I had saved on Pinterest was what I decided to make. I hadn’t previously found a pattern for it, so I was going to wing it and try to self-draft something. My gut told me to check one more time that there wasn’t a pattern I could use as a starting point. Imagine my utter shock when I got not only a pattern to use as a starting point, but also THE pattern modeled after the exact same inspiration photo I had saved. A very happy ending for me thanks to @stitching_stone! ❣️

It was -20C when I filmed this. I was cold, but not as cold as you’d think and that’s Canadian wool for ya. 🌬️

This is the #StapleSweater by @knitwork___ which came out a few days ago! It’s a beautiful pattern and was such a joy to knit. Aptly named as it has very quickly become a staple for me, even in such a wacky colour that honestly is a bit outside of my comfort zone. I just could not get this colour out of my head over the past year and it needed to happen. And I’m thinking about it more now—it’s the perfect colour to brighten up the dark winter days. And with the extreme cold arriving this week, I’ve been wearing this almost daily. 💚

Congratulations on another wonderful pattern, Jesika, and thanks for letting me test it!

Embodying slow craft in a rushed world ~ I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and found some words to articulate my thoughts and feelings. ❣️🐑❄️🧶🕯️🪡

We devoted crafters are not immune to a culture of influence, take and scarcity, even if our chosen crafts inherently invite us to slow down and use our hands.

How do we encourage healthy boundaries with our craft? How do we maintain and remember the magic in our craft without it getting swiftly washed away by the force of “rush”? I find myself pondering these questions and now I pose them to you.

The fact is that many of the crafts we are practicing and holding out to preserve—like wood-working, basketmaking, knitting, quilting, leatherwork, weaving, sewing and so much more—were not created for the modern world. And as modern people, what I observe is that we seem a bit lost in how these old crafts and our lifestyles now can coexist because they couldn’t be more opposite. But I think we can get there. I think some people are doing it.

Our creativity and sharing is what saves us from the noise in our world. It’s storytelling. What if we started looking at each other’s creations as such?

I don’t have all the answers, maybe none at all. But it feels important to discuss the responsibility we bear in our crafts. I wholeheartedly believe we are responsible for the world we are living in and creating for our future; that applies here too.

Thanks for reading and pondering with me. There is more of this in a (very long) Substack post via my profile 🔗. 💌

This video is from last winter at @forgetmenotflowersandcafe, which feels like the perfect place to ground in one’s craft considering this subject matter. ❣️

A silly little video of me putting on my new scarf, knitted with wool and keepin my neck warm! 🕯️❄️

Imposter syndrome is weird, the lighting isn’t great and and and, but I’m hitting “share” anyway.

It’s the #sophiescarf by @petiteknit!

The latest off my knitting needles! ❣️❣️❣️

As someone who has historically been an earth-tone person, this was a bit out of my comfort zone but I could not for the life of me get this colour out of my head. It had to be this specific red which took a bit to nail down.

Finished in Portugal and blocked the second I got home! It grew a bit more in the sleeves than I had intended so I may shorten them at some point. And I need to fix the position of the top button. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with this one. I’ve been wearing it every day and it feels festive. ❄️
