Our latest episode of Artists’ Tales features the remarkable Tinsel Edwards, a Glasgow‑based artist whose work fuses personal storytelling with political urgency. Her practice spans painting, printmaking, assemblage and public interventions, all shaped by humour, emotional honesty and a bold visual voice.

Her work blends autobiography, motherhood, humour and sharp social commentary, all wrapped in a playful, tactile visual language built from found objects, collage and reclaimed materials.

From her powerful explorations of the housing crisis to her reflections on feminism, domesticity and the visibility of women” in art history, Tinsel brings honesty and courage to every piece she creates. We also dive into her DIY roots in music, performance and independent culture, and the story behind her book “Priced Out”.

It’s a powerful, thought‑provoking episode that shines a light on the politics of who gets to live, work and create in our cities.

The Hearing Trumpet •

Curated by Tinsel Edwards
@tinseledwards

Exhibition extended! The last chance to view is this Sunday ✨

Here is a short preview of the lower gallery floor…

✦

The Hearing Trumpet is a group exhibition that brings together eight artists whose work has a sense of the surreal. It takes its title from a novel by the painter and author Leonora Carrington.

Through the mediums of painting, assemblage, collage and sculpture, the detritus of everyday life is transformed into something magical, giving us a glimpse between the cracks of reality.
Personal themes are interwoven with social commentary and observation, with a consideration for both the real and the imagined.

✨✨ Thank you @tinseledwards for including two of my paintings in The Hearing Trumpet at @thealchemyexperiment and for introducing my work to Glasgow!

Tinsel, one of my best friends since childhood, and fellow artist and collaborator over the years (see @thefairiesband as just one of the things we’ve done together) has curated an exhibition featuring eight artists whose work has a sense of the surreal, with the show’s title taken from a novel by Leonora Carrington.

I’m gutted I couldn’t make it along to the opening, as it looks like it was such a brilliant evening and I’d have loved to have met @waffle_burger @syule.tsingas @sacha_studio_glasgow @kimberley__bright @soft.play and @chevy_morello in person and got to see all their work, but studio commitments as I prepare for my MA show meant I couldn’t take the time out sadly.

If you’re in Glasgow (lucky you, I love that city!) and fancy popping along, then the show runs until 16th June and is open daily from 10am-6pm. ✨✨
