Potfest on tour - Gmunden 2026.

We were honoured to be asked to be the guest country/organisation at @keramik_in_gmunden last weekend. 6 of our regular exhibitors made the 1500km journey to what has to be, one of the most beautiful settings for a ceramics market anywhere in Europe.

Pre Brexit, artists were fortunate enough to enjoy free and easy movement between the UK and mainland Europe with goods. This meant that we were regularly able to offer exchanges and reciprocal agreements with other, overseas markets. As travel with goods begins to become easier once more, hopefully we will once again begin to see “guest countries” return to Potfest events.

A huge thank you to Eva and her team in Gmunden for the invitation and hospitality. We look forward to welcoming you and an Austrian contingent in the near future 🙏

Thank you so much @potfest.co.uk for a truly wonderful experience at the flagship event this year up in the beautiful Lake District. Thank you to my lovely customers who visited me and had wonderful conversations about pottery and ceramics and to my fellow potters for being the very best of friends to me.

I have just returned home from a bit of an epic journey, from Kent to the Leach in St Ives to teach Intro to Glaze Technology, up to Cumbria in the middle of the night for Potfest in the Park at Hutton in the Forest, down to Warwickshire on Sunday evening to visit my lovely dad for a few days then back to Kent again in a giant asymmetrical delightful triangle.

Here are a few pics of some wonderful things that happened … my form of the fair was these ‘Tondo’ serving dishes, I sold out and could have sold many more. My largest item, this meant this was one of the best fairs I’ve ever done and I’m so grateful. Thanks to those who bought them, I hope you still love them.
Absolutely delightful to make new friends @larascobie and @burntcrustpottery via our matching @roakestudio jackets.
So pleased I’ve finally mastered this green celadon; watch this space for more of this 💚
My friend and brilliant moon jar maker @ruthreadmanceramics … she and @vichageman are my camping buddies and pottery family 🩶🩶
Here she is with @wendy.lawrence.ceramics serving delish pimms cocktails at the legendary Sausage Club Saturday night feast
Vicky and Adamina of @2hungrybakers doing the prep for our delicious pizza frenzy (designed by @diluca.ceramics and sorted by @tkjpots with extra dough balls provided by @simongriffithssculpture (not pictured here!!)
Me doing a miniscule amount of dough kneading and washing up, swiftly captured on camera; I actually spent most of the time chatting with another new delightful friend @melaniekeevil
Swimming in Windermere … apparently a bad idea but I’m ok!
My jackpot prize from @paulyoungceramics can I put into words how much I love my slipware hare plate? He told me I must use it …
My new treasure @nic.collins.75 bowl 🤎
Brilliant @joseph_morgan_ceramics on guitar
Gorgeous students Louise and Allyson from Leach who visited me in Cumbria! 🥰

This isn’t about packaging for posting work (filler/double boxing/if it shakes it breaks), but packaging for person to person studio or show sales. The benefit of these experiences for the customer is that it’s personal, and as every good boutique knows, it’s nice to have a bit of packaging that is consistent with the quality of your hand made item. Sadly my budget doesn’t stretch to branded bags and such but, courtesy of the super professional and brilliant potter tkjpots , one way of elevating your packaging is to print your name or logo on packaging tape, and use this to self brand your bags or parcels. For a modest investment you can get many rolls of tape printed which literally will last you years. I also like the stretchy paper wrap because it’s not so bulky for shows. (I have found some of the black stretchy wrap to be not so cushioning so I prefer the brown). I do use some bubble wrap for delicate long necks and such like, but I am trying not to use plastic unless it’s necessary. The flyer is a good way of communicating care instructions as well as reminding the customer from which potter that item came from (the shows are overwhelming for everyone). I usually add a handwritten message as well. Anyway, if you have any grand ideas of your own, drop them in the comments.
