Opened the kiln today and really pleased with the results of a good firing. Nice clay colour and a couple of good glaze results too. A little cooler at the top this time but it was an extremely tight pack up there so to be expected. The cone packs are 8,9,10&11.
This weekend I’ll be having a proper look at the pits and making selections for @craftpotters #oxfordceramicsfair before loading the kiln up for another firing late next week. taken in Hereford, Herefordshire by @tkjpots

So great to welcome @stevesheridanpotter to our new home and studio. Steve taught me to make pots as a schoolboy and has remained an inspiration and huge support ever since. It was great to discuss plans for the new studio and kiln layout with him; as you can see there is a lot of work to do. It’s going to be a fun packed winter as the building and kitting out progresses. taken in Hereford, Herefordshire by @tkjpots

This little sauce bowl is the last pot I will throw in my current studio. The end of a chapter for me as I begin to close down this studio and transfer to my new studio at my new home in Herefordshire. Thankfully this run of sauce bowls brings an end to another making phase (well the throwing part at least) meaning all the pots for my last show of the year (@craftpotters #oxfordceramicsfair ) are now made. Just need to get them bisque fired, glazed and through the wood kiln and then the move and new studio build can begin in earnest.

Been topping up my stock of main plates and chargers in time for @craftpotters #oxfordceramicsfair . This is a short video of the turning process; where excess clay on the u see side of a pot is removed using a sharp tool. Turning typically takes me as long at the throwing phase. Not all pots are turned. Many potters prefer to leave their pots with natural gestural finishes that give a nod to the making process. I enjoy buying and using these pots but can’t bring myself to make them. For me, turning is a meditation and something I enjoy and although I don’t ever remove too much clay I’m usually able to improve the balance and form of my work through turning. by @tkjpots

Very early start in the studio today. These medium sized (2lb) teapots have been missing from my range for a few shows now. These will be coming with me to @craftpotters #oxfordceramicsfair next month. by @tkjpots

Just finishing off a magical week in the studio as I began a new making phase to create a full batch of work for @craftpotters #oxfordceramicsfair at the end of October. These soup bowls are coming with me. They were the first shape of this new making phase as they are a great warm up pot; revisiting the discipline of repetition, careful attention to form and revisiting pulling and applying handles.
We’re still in the midst of moving house and I now have to commute an hour to the studio each way so I’m putting in some long hours. Can’t wait to get the new studio set up…. Watch this space.

England war heuer Gastland beim 38. Töpfermarkt in Gmunden – mit Keramiker:innen, ganz unterschiedlichen Handschriften und viel Austausch mitten in der Stadt.

Einer von ihnen: der britische Keramiker Tom Knowles Jackson aus Stroud. In diesem Portrait erzählt er von seiner Arbeit, seinem Zugang zur Keramik und davon, wie er die Tage in Gmunden erlebt hat.

England was this year’s guest country at the 38th Gmunden Ceramics Market – bringing together ceramic artists, very different styles and plenty of exchange right in the heart of Gmunden.

What an incredible few days at the Gmunden show in Austria!

A huge thank you to Eva and her team for putting on such a fantastic show and for making us feel so welcome.

Thank you to everyone who came along, stopped by our stand, chatted with us and supported our work — it was lovely meeting so many new people, trying to communicate in different languages and seeing such an amazing collection of makers and friends.

We’ve had the best time and after travelling 2500 kilometres through 4 countries we are now back in the UK with lots of wonderful memories and new friends.

Thank you, @keramik_in_gmunden we hope to be back next year.
