Always good having @craigconnell6750 in from @oldhamwhitetiger for his PT session. Craigs gym was where I started my martial arts journey before moving to BJJ. Love working with other local gyms and clubs 🫡🔥💪🏻

🥋 GYM AFFILIATION | FOUNDRY × FORGE

@foundrygrappling 🤝 @forgeinjuryperformance

This one means a lot.

@train.foundry was where I first started building my sports massage business 4 years ago. Without that first opportunity, Forge wouldn’t be where it is today. Massive thanks to @mattburnspt and everyone at Foundry who supported me from the start.

Great to get back to my roots last night. Crazy to think it’s been 5 years since I started my Sports Rehab & BJJ journey.

Over the years, loads of Foundry members have trusted us with their injuries, niggles and recovery. We’re now making that relationship official with a Forge × Foundry referral pathway 🥋

Giving members access to:

* Injury assessment & rehab
* Physiotherapy
* Sports massage & recovery
* Practitioners who understand the demands of combat sports

Our physio @beckystone_forge actually came to Forge through Foundry too, and we’re both looking forward to getting back on the mats ourselves.

Although after my first session in nearly a year last night… I’ve got some catching up to do 😅

We’re also looking to work alongside more local and combat sports gyms across Oldham & Manchester.

Interested in becoming a Forge affiliated gym? Drop us a message 🤝

6 weeks. 5kg down. 💪🏻🔥

85kg ➡️ 80kg

Over the past 12 months I’ve enjoyed life a little too much 😂

Between a pec tear in a BJJ match, training for and completing the Costa Rica Jungle Ultra, and enjoying plenty of good food along the way, my own physique goals took a back seat.

6 weeks ago it was time to dial back in.

No detoxes. No challenges. No quick fixes.

Just getting back to the same fundamentals we coach every day at @train.foundry

Even as a coach, life happens. The key isn’t being perfect—it’s getting back on track when you drift off course.

5kg down. Another 5kg to go. 👊🏻🔥

Got to give this man a lot of credit for the support over the last 4 years.

Since I first walked into his BJJ gym back in 2021, @mattburnsbjj has backed me from day one. He’s trusted me with his own rehab, as well as helping to look after athletes from the gym over the years.

As I move into my own clinic, it’s a good opportunity to look back at how far we’ve both come.

Along the way we’ve worked through:

* Pec major reconstruction
* Knee LCL injury from BJJ
* Ultramarathon events in Costa Rica
* Plenty of other niggles and setbacks

He’s always given me a hard time about training, business, and life in general, but it’s always been from a good place.

Appreciate the trust and support over the years. Looking forward to continuing to work together and seeing what’s next. Now it’s time to prep for some big events this summer. 👊💪

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dan came into the clinic struggling with severe neck and shoulder pain radiating down into his arm — massively affecting both his BJJ and Karate training. After a full assessment, we identified signs of cervical radiculopathy around the C6/C7 region, alongside a possible double crush syndrome, where the nerve was being irritated in multiple areas.

In Dan’s case, excessive tension through the upper trapezius alongside compression around the elbow was likely contributing to further irritation of the nerve pathway and increasing symptoms into the arm.

Treatment initially focused on reducing pain, muscle tension and nerve irritation through:
✔️ Soft tissue therapy
✔️ Trigger point release
✔️ Myofascial cupping
✔️ Mobility work

Once symptoms settled, rehab progressed into:
🔸 Nerve gliders
🔸 Thoracic mobility
🔸 Cervical spine mobility
🔸 Trap stretching
🔸 Shoulder stability & control work
🔸 Rotator cuff strengthening

The aim isn’t just to treat symptoms — it’s to address the underlying cause, improve movement mechanics and keep athletes performing pain free. 💪

Appreciate the trust Dan 🙌

If neck, shoulder or nerve pain is affecting your training or everyday life, don’t ignore it. Get assessed by the team at Forge Injury & Performance 🔥

Client Progress: BJJ Purple Belt @joshnelson_4 🟪 @stealthbjj
End-Stage Rehab – Grade 2 MCL & Medial Meniscus Injury

Josh is now pain-free and entering the final stage of his rehab: Return to Sport.
In this session, we focused on:

➡️ Change of Direction (COD)
➡️ Deceleration Control
➡️ Lower Limb Power Development

The goal: to assess how his knee handles high-demand lateral and multiplanar movements under fatigue — key for combat sports like BJJ.

🔍 Initial Presentation:

Josh came to me with persistent anterior knee pain after an acute weightlifting injury. The pain had lingered for over a month before he reached out to @tjmsportrehabilitation_ for a solution.

On assessment:
• Positive findings on meniscus provocation tests
• Valgus stress test indicated MCL involvement
• Movement screening via QUAS-L showed:
• Pain with landing, especially during lateral movements
• A noticeable valgus collapse strategy — placing excess load on the medial knee structures

Fast forward to today:
✅ Pain-free
✅ Improved knee control
✅ Power development and lateral stability progressing well

If you’re dealing with knee issues or looking to return to sport safely and confidently — don’t leave it to guesswork. Let’s rebuild the right way.

Client Progress Update: Lower Back Pain – L4/S1 Herniated Disc 👨‍⚕️

Meet Russel — a committed athlete who’s been battling lower back pain due to an L5/S1 herniated disc for the past 5 years. This issue has not only affected his day-to-day life but also held him back during training at @theyardboxinggym.mcr.

Over the last 2 months, we’ve been working closely to reduce his pain and improve his movement through weekly rehab sessions combining sports therapy and functional rehabilitation.

✅ Key Areas of Focus:
• Pain Sensitivity
By desensitising the lower back region, Russel is now able to train pain-free, with far fewer flare-ups and increased confidence in movement.
• Range of Motion
We’ve targeted the lumbar spine, glutes, hamstrings, and hip complex to restore mobility and reduce compensations.
• Core Stability
Core re-education using deadbugs, Copenhagen planks, and other spine-stabilising drills has been key to controlling movement under load.
• Strengthening Work
Strategic exercises like RDLs, back extensions, and Jefferson curls have helped rebuild strength in previously vulnerable areas.

If you’re struggling with chronic back pain or looking to return to training without fear of flare-ups — reach out for a free consultation call to see how I can help you move better and live pain-free
