Ah, this brings back many......many a fond memory of me and Herb; hot sun, checking the status of the tow truck arrival. Consternation. Sweat. The game, if you will. Bayliss's engine spluttered and cut out in rush hour traffic on a three lane road yesterday afternoon and I couldn't get it to turn over. Two helpful cops pushed him across the steep incline road while I steered him out of traffic and safely into a business parking lot. We shall see what shakes out. And so it goes...

Finally got off my ass and had Bayliss's original window sticker laminated. For those curious about what a 1989 Toyota Camry DLX as optioned would cost today, it's just shy of $40,000.Yoiks!

It's Toyota Tuesday, my dudes, and have I got a relevant post for you. If you eagle-eye my Stories, you'll no doubt have seen that I made not one, but two Stories where I posted the Camry for sale. I got to the brink of my frustration limit with its intermittent starting/rough idling issue that three mechanics and countless dollars haven't been able to address. But, on Saturday, after a lot of contemplation and some heart-to-hearts with Kay, I decided to hang onto Bayliss, and accept this issue as part of the journey, part of the quirkiness, part of the deal.

Acceptance is something I have a hard time with, in cars, in people, in myself. But I'm working on it, and Bayliss is helping me with that. He's a good egg.

As if to validate and affirm my choice to hang onto him, the very next day, we were at my son's soccer game when what pulled up right next to us but a 1991 Camry DX, owned by an elderly couple. I jumped out of the driver's seat and asked if I could get pics of our boring, Japanese family haulers together, and they kindly obliged. We struck up a conversation, and the wife repeatedly exclaimed, "Yours is in such nicer shape than ours!"

They got it 15 years ago from "some old person who died"-- 💀). When I asked them where they take it to get it fixed, the elderly man replied, "I do it all myself." We exchanged phone numbers and I told them that I have lots of spare parts if they ever want anything. He and I exchanged names too; he's Fred. I'm Gabe.

And, for better or for worse, these are our Camrys.

I’d really like to own a classic car and here is the top of my short list right now. Do I feel ready for a classic? Nope. I don’t have enough technical knowledge yet nor am I in the right position time and « life » wise right now. I could not properly take care and enjoy such demanding car. But one day for sure!

And you? Which classic car is your dream?
