Just to get the Celica useable, I swapped on the original carb from my pickup tonight. The one that was on here has the nipple completely broken off for the distributor vacuum, didn’t have any base gasket at all, and definitely needs a good cleanout. The old one off my pickup started and idled perfectly right away after sitting in a tub in my garage for the past 7 years. I have plenty to do mechanically on this thing still, but it’s gotta be able to be moved reliably bare minimum until I can start ordering parts. Til then, at least the exterior is cleaner. First wash. Enjoy the beautiful gauge cluster on the second slide. This thing has the most comfortable and deluxe interior of any ‘70s Japanese car I’ve had so far. Probably because it’s not one of my many base model economy cars. Feels wrong having actual oil and amp gauges, let alone a clock and a tach! #celica #toyotacelica by @trashwiley2

Whoops. New project time. 1979 Celica ST. One-owner car since new. I’m the second owner. Pretty excited about this thing. Very minimal rust for a car that was bought new in Omaha and spent its whole life in Iowa. The car was parked in the ‘90s and barely driven since. Needs some work to be fully drivable, but I did drive it all 11 miles home with it not idling and the front passenger caliper sticking the whole way home (very, very nerve-wracking drive). I intend to clean this thing up, fix all the small mechanical issues, and drive it. This is one of very, very few one-owner cars I’ve ever owned, and as far as this particular generation of Celica goes, the round headlight notchback ‘79 models are hands down my favorite. For whatever reason I REALLY don’t like the liftback of this gen, or the Celica Supra, despite being otherwise awesome cars. Just think the notchback is so much better looking. Interior is basically perfect other than some wear and one small split on the passenger seat. Never smoked in, no rodent evidence. Garaged its whole life. Very excited to get this thing fully drivable. #celica #toyotacelica by @trashwiley2

Extremely happy to report that one of the two Casey’s locations in Carlisle is still a classic, “real” Casey’s. I wonder if this is a store-by-store decision or if these will all be required to play catch-up sooner than later. Hopefully a few will remain indefinitely. @nickskic sent a photo confirming this Stanza Wagon was in town a while back, but I was waiting til I saw it myself before posting it. I really don’t post much in the #carspotting vein at all anymore but I decided I had to take this photo on my way home tonight. This has to be the same one that was for sale in Minneapolis a month or two ago. I still desperately want one of these someday, the lack of a traditional B-pillar when the sliding doors are open will never not fascinate me. I listed this car for sale a little bit ago. I’m a fool. There is absolutely no reason to get rid of this car. I’d never find another one locally, especially not one as sorted as this one is. I don’t need the money, and whatever it’d go towards would probably be less interesting anyway. I’ve done an insane amount of work to this car. It’s one of the coolest looking cars I’ve owned between the color, patina, and the fact that its a Datsun from easily their most insane design era. Some of my most wanted cars are mid-70s Nissan products that look wild (Cherry X1 coupe or X1-R, Kenmeri, 710/Violet, first gen 200SX/Silvia, or the possibly attainable USDM first-gen F10 wagon) I have one from that era right here I can hop in and drive whenever I want. The grass is always greener, but sometimes your grass is green enough. I’m stupid. I’m keeping it. For now. #datsunb210 #b210 #nissan #datsun by @trashwiley2

I hadn’t posted any photos of the D21 engine bay yet. This is an ‘87, so still the good ol’ L-series relative, the Z24i. Yesterday I took off the end of the plastic snorkel tube that goes into the air cleaner snout and found it was pretty much entirely blocked by a dirt dauber nest. Removing this huge restriction unsurprisingly greatly improved the midrange power noticeably. While I was there and being annoyed by the accessibility of that section of the engine bay, I realized that in some point somebody had hacked up part of the AIS under the truck, which was all the motivation I needed to remove the entire system. AIS robs zero horsepower, I didn’t care about that, but I do hate unnecessary clutter, and for only serving one very minor purpose, that system takes up a ton of space. Much better now on the passenger side of the engine bay. i can see the coils now. Also found that the wires from the coolant temp sensor had been completely eaten by mice, along with the end of the (now removed) vacuum line that goes from the intake to the AIS. Even with those issues, the truck ran basically perfectly. No wonder people seem to like this electronic fuel injection nonsense so much. New valve cover gasket and ignition stuff installed last week as well. A quick note to any Z24i owners: the color-coded vacuum diagram thats floating around online is WRONG. The 3-hardline bunch that goes from the exhaust side of the engine across the front to the intake side does a 180-degree twist, reversing the orientation of the two outer vacuum lines. The diagram does not account for this and puts the two outer lines hooking up to the opposite ports. The more you know. #d21 #nissanhardbody #z24 #z24i by @trashwiley2
