A closer look behind the scenes of our Ace Hardware build last week with @triarchcreative. ⚒️

From concepting and sourcing to the final frame, this one was such a fun project to bring to life. Swipe through for some of my favorite BTS moments.

Ace Hardware Set, built from the ground up. ⚒️

In just 10 hours, an empty garage became a fully functioning Ace Hardware set-stocked, styled, and camera-ready.

Every shelf, product, sign, and detail was intentionally placed to create a space that felt authentic enough to disappear into the story.

Production design is all about building worlds people never question.

And honestly… that’s the magic.

These weren't actors.

@ford wanted real ambassadors, which meant less scripting, fewer marks, and a lot more reacting to what was happening in the moment.

Honestly, we think more brands are moving this direction. Audiences are getting pretty good at spotting when something feels manufactured.

Do you think authenticity matters more today than production value?

There's usually a lot more happening behind a commercial than what ends up in the final cut.

For this REP Fitness launch, the challenge wasn't just capturing the products. It was building an environment where every department could move efficiently, adapt quickly, and keep the momentum going over three shoot days.

One of the creative goals was making the equipment feel powerful without making it feel bulky. We leaned heavily into handheld movement, long tracking shots, and framing that allowed the products to feel integrated into the athlete's movement rather than sitting on display.

A lot of the final look came from finding the balance between premium and gritty. Clean lighting, strong product definition, and just enough texture in the grade to make the world feel lived-in instead of perfect.

Why not just use an easyrig?

Because we wanted a full range of movement from the DP, with long takes, and no restrictions.

This production was focused on creating flexibility. We were working with prototype products, evolving launch timelines, and a location that needed to feel premium without feeling staged. The crew spent a lot of time finding ways to open up the space, hide limitations, and create nearly 360 degrees of shooting freedom inside the gym. All with a camera rigged up with a transmission backpack - built by @justinbalog and @yang.mandrew .

The result was a production that felt fluid on set and gave us the freedom to keep building on ideas as the shoot progressed.

The final shot lasts a few seconds.

What you're not seeing is the set modifications, lighting adjustments, camera operators squeezing through tight spaces, and a crew constantly adapting so every angle feels intentional. Sometimes the difference between a good frame and a great one is a dozen tiny decisions happening behind the camera.

The client wanted a natural, gritty commercial that didn’t devalue their branding they’ve already established.

That's why @repfitnessequipment wanted these products to live in a real gym environment rather than a studio. Real sweat, real movement, real athletes pushing equipment the way it was designed to be used.

Curious where people land on this: when you're watching a product ad and it feels “real”, do you prefer handheld, or perfectly smooth content?

The final shot looks effortless. The BTS usually tells a different story.

For this OrthoFi campaign, a lot of the visuals came from careful coordination between camera, art department, and lighting. Every angle had to work hard to make one soundstage feel larger, deeper, and more immersive than it really was.
