Grundstücksverkehrsgenehmigungszuständigkeitsübertragungsverordnung 📎

A symbol of German bureaucracy. Long, complex, and difficult to navigate. German bureaucracy is known for its thoroughness, but also for its complicated administrative language, forms, applications, laws, and regulations.

This project was created in the “Wortbild” seminar during the Summer Semester 2026 at @udktypo. Through typography, I wanted to make this complexity visible.

During the @udkberlin Rundgang, visitors were invited to stamp the original Grundstücksverkehrsgenehmigungszuständigkeitsübertragungsverordnung as often and wherever they wished. In doing so, they became part of the bureaucratic process themselves.

The second analogue printed matter of my album ”Balta“ is a two-color linocut with letterpress type, highlighting the first words of the album, a homemade Latvian Daina. The typical comma accents are present, though extremely small and very detached. Unfortunately, we do not have any Latvian glyphs at hand 😭The poem and the whole song were directly inspired by @grafikas.katedra at @makslasakademija with @rutabriede and @reinissemevics of @stop.spot.post 🍀

The music takes months if not years to evolve in your head. Lyrics demand all your attention to be caught. Arrangement, recording and mastering takes months. Then, everything is sent to the pressing plant and produced with a cover of boring graphic/haptic quality. Would you also go for the most affordable option? At least, I find myself in a position where I can letterpress-print a lyric sheet, not only to make the product more unique, but also to visually answer to the love of detail that has flown into the music. 🎶 #letterpress #leadtype #vinyllovers

Reverse print of lyric sheet done — 120 copies in two colors silver and red, also including two stereotypes/clichés, both of unknown origin or meaning: The circle seems to be a former logotype (?), the clock is not really a clock, seems to measure something different than time. Anyway, time must have run out for the artist preparing the plate long time ago, the edge not fully cleared. HAD ANOTHER LOOK: It’s an egg clock (Eieruhr)!! It looks so deliberate, but isn’t, I assume. If anyone is interested in producing an album inlay in letterpress, why not collaborate with @udktypo? There is now some first-hand experience. 👍🤓

With the help of Nils Kreter, my mechatronics colleague/master at @udkberlin, I was able to hold my font 港街黑 Hong Kong Street Face in my hands for the first time in eleven years—quite an emotional moment! 🥲🙄😅 Nils helped me to both try the CNC machine and laser cutter for some first results in 10 and 20 line size (120 and 240 points). The first three characters are fine, the rest is only one millimeter deep due to a software crash, that’s why the print looks more like a wood cut than letterpress. It feels just awesome to see this— HOLY!! 🫶🕺 #letterpress #woodtype #chinesefont #chinesetype

Got hold of new type for @udktypo today, donated by an art teacher who had saved the content of a wonderful school-based letterpress studio from being scrapped. #Helvetica, #Futura, Narrow Memphis (nice!), #Bodoni … some composing sticks, tons of spaces, and a small proof press. Apart from my exhaustion, it has been a wonderful day! #moveabletype #letterpress
