Konzeptuelle Typografie: H1, H2, H3, H4 … Bücher über die Hochschullehre, Roman Wilhelm, 5 SWS/5 ETCS, Teilnehmende Digital Education: 2 SWS/2 ETCS, Donnerstags, 10:00–14:00, Raum 204 (tbc)
Neben sanft dosierten themenbezogenen Inputs aus der Vorlesung »Überall ist Typografie« arbeiten wir an typografischen Konzepten für zwei konkrete Buchprojekte: Eine Rückschau der Klasse für Bewegtbild bei Prof. Stini Roehrs sowie eine Sammlung von Projekten und Arbeiten im Bereich Digital Education bei Prof. Daniel Hromada (Studierende aus diesem Kontext nehmen für 2 SWS am Kurs teil und erhalten 2 ETCS). Egal wie verrückt die Entwürfe werden: Hauptsache sie werden sauber formatiert, sodass ausgewählte Positionen dann auch reibungslos produziert werden können. Ziel des Kurses in zwei Gruppen ist mindestens ein Prinziplayout, das anhand von Beispielkapiteln die Umsetzung als Buch umfassend zur Schau stellt. @udktypo @wilhelm.roman taken in Universität der Künste Berlin by @udktypo

Experimentelle Typografie: Kreative Raster, Roman Wilhelm, 5 SWS/5 ETCS, Mittwochs, 10:00–14:00, Raum 025+026 und 027
Layoutraster, Schriftwahl und Typografie, das klingt erst einmal trocken – aber stimmt das? Dient nicht das Raster als Grundlage für das visuelle Erzählen? Gibt es nicht den Rahmen vor, auf dem Geschichten präsentiert werden, und setzt es nicht die Schwerpunkte, die gutes Erzählen so nötig hat? Im Typolabor erforschen wir gemeinsam, was Handsatz mit der Rasterfindung zu tun hat, skizzieren per Hand und legen Papierstücke aus (auslegen: to lay out), um nach Laut und Leise, Lang und Kurz, Raum und Enge, Zentrum und Peripherie zu fragen. Neben einem Layoutraster entsteht eine typografisch durchdachte Umsetzung eines einfachen Projektes freier Wahl. @udktypo @wilhelm.roman taken in Universität der Künste Berlin by @udktypo

Jetzt wird die Leipziger Antiqua endlich konsequent eingeräumt – lange waren nur einzelne Grade und Schnitte draußen. Es geht los mit den „stehenden“ Graden 20 Punkt mager, halbfett und kursiv, 24, 28, 36 und 48 (leider nur ein Fragment vorhanden), dann in großen Kästen die 16er, 14er, 12, 10 und 8 (soll ich die Nonpareille überhaupt dazunehmen?). Erstens beginnt im WiSe ein neuer Ansturm mit einem Post-Punk-Lyrikprojrkt, und es kommen vier Schränke von der HTW zu uns! Also jetzt mal schnell … by @udktypo

We are showing the results of ”Wortbild“ class, where students designed the letters for a word of their choice, part of the Dainas project from the Winter term in collaboration with @makslasakademija @grafikas.katedra and @stop.spot.post , as well as the preliminary tests for Hong Kong Street Face wood type lathe/laser cutting. by @udktypo

The second analogue printed matter of my album ”Balta“ is a two-color linocut with letterpress type, highlighting the first words of the album, a homemade Latvian Daina. The typical comma accents are present, though extremely small and very detached. Unfortunately, we do not have any Latvian glyphs at hand 😭The poem and the whole song were directly inspired by @grafikas.katedra at @makslasakademija with @rutabriede and @reinissemevics of @stop.spot.post 🍀 by @udktypo

The music takes months if not years to evolve in your head. Lyrics demand all your attention to be caught. Arrangement, recording and mastering takes months. Then, everything is sent to the pressing plant and produced with a cover of boring graphic/haptic quality. Would you also go for the most affordable option? At least, I find myself in a position where I can letterpress-print a lyric sheet, not only to make the product more unique, but also to visually answer to the love of detail that has flown into the music. 🎶 #letterpress #leadtype #vinyllovers by @udktypo

Reverse print of lyric sheet done — 120 copies in two colors silver and red, also including two stereotypes/clichés, both of unknown origin or meaning: The circle seems to be a former logotype (?), the clock is not really a clock, seems to measure something different than time. Anyway, time must have run out for the artist preparing the plate long time ago, the edge not fully cleared. HAD ANOTHER LOOK: It’s an egg clock (Eieruhr)!! It looks so deliberate, but isn’t, I assume. If anyone is interested in producing an album inlay in letterpress, why not collaborate with @udktypo? There is now some first-hand experience. 👍🤓 by @udktypo

Aujourd'hui, nos 13 graphistes en cavale à Berlin ont eu la chance d'aller visiter la classe de typographie de @wilhelm.roman à l'Universität der Künste et d'imprimer un projet en letterpress! Merci Roman pour ton accueil plus que généreux et nous espérons que tu porteras fièrement ton pull de Graphisme Ahuntsic!
