Scale. Sequence. Quality.

Working block by block, ReBUILD is making huge progress in restoring another 35+ abandoned houses in Johnston Square into new high-quality for-sale and rental homes.

These are blocks of Mura Street, Homewood Avenue, and Valley Street that have been brutalized by blight and abandonment for decades. By year’s end, they will all be reborn as a network of healthy whole blocks where families feel secure: a different story for the generations who have lived through the hard times—and for the generations to come.

This is how we rise from rebuilding houses to revitalizing neighborhoods: partnering with communities, creating a shared vision, putting impact capital to work, and building at scale—and always believing every community has hope for a brighter future.

East Baltimore is changing. And it all starts with community.

"What about Mura Street?"

Find out at our next Mura Street Homes Open House: Saturday, June 20 from 12-2pm

Johnston Square residents have never stopped believing, advocating, or working for the future they know their East Baltimore community deserves.

Today, that vision is becoming reality—and there is no better example of this transformation than the 700 block of Mura Street.

Once home to 23 abandoned houses, Mura Street is now well on its way to becoming a livable block with a series of beautifully restored double-wide rowhomes—homes that stand out just as much as the community that fought for their revitalization.

And the first of these homes are now ready for new homebuyers.

🏡 A new chapter is beginning. Discover what will make Mura Street a block worth calling home. rebuildmetro.com/mura-street

Recent new favorite genre has been Kuduro, an Angolan dance/club style of music with fast tempos, heavy rhythmic percussion and extremely fat bass lines.

Kuduro meaning “hard ass” in Angolan Portuguese was born in the 1980s during a civil war as a means to bring joy and expression during such crazy times. It has a specific style of dance as well that mimics the movements of people who lost limbs in the war as a means to honor them and reimagine their sacrifices with dignity.

I always find it so interesting how many of the world’s dance genres are born out of trying to find light in the darkness. That’s why I love DJing so much. I get to bring people along a musical journey through time and liberation. Dance is truly revolutionary.

Congo is still under attack! ⬇️

For those of you who supported us in 2023, we thank you! And we want you to know--

2025 has been arguably even worse for Congolese people in the east.

The work our partners were able to manifest thanks to your support over the past two years has been deeply impactful.

It's helped communities on the ground weather the storm of occupation in a real way.

But as resources dwindle and cities continue to remain under swige, the urgency and insecurity grow amongst the people.

The video says it all.

Will you help stand with Congo this holiday season?

If you can donate, please donate.

If you can't donate, please share with someone who can't.

Every. Dollar. Counts.
.
.
Also, heartfelt shoutout to all the folks who've helped us fundraise over the years to support Congolese people in struggle, especially the collaborators and tagged accounts in this post!

You all, and so many more, exemplify what Congolese solidarity is all about!

Congo will be free 🇨🇩

The community-driven redevelopment model that has blossomed in Johnston Square over the last 12 years was driven by the dedicated leadership of Regina Hammond--and by the true partnership that developed between ReBUILD Metro and the Johnston Square community.
