We’ve always believed that African food has a place at tables all over the world. Not because we need to reinvent it or make it something it’s not, but because there’s so much in our ingredients, our traditions and the way we cook that deserves to be shared.

This week, we’re in the Niyama Private Islands in the Maldives, where Vusi will be taking over the kitchen at Tribal for a series of special dining experiences.

From fine dining to a proper African braai, we’ll be cooking the food we love, sharing a few stories and hopefully introducing some new friends to flavours they haven’t experienced before.

It’s a privilege to be able to travel with our food, meet people from different parts of the world and bring a little bit of home along with us.

Here’s what we’ve got planned:

Five silhouettes. Five kitchens. Zero clues.

Name the chef and name the restaurant. Get both right and you know Cape Town food better than most. One of them cooks over open fire. One of them you have queued for. One of them is about to be your favourite.

This is Phase 1. The reveal starts this week, and there are more names to come. The table is being set at Green Point Cricket Club on 28 and 29 November.

Prepping is half the fun! We are getting in touch with our South African heritage in preparation for our collaboration with @edge.africa this weekend. Purposefully culled fresh local springbok carpaccio from Morester farm is on the menu on Saturday as well as Chef Vusi’s take on local lamb from De Glebe and west coast mussels from Saldanha Bay. Marianna’s authentic Malva pudding made the traditional way with indigenous geranium. An absolute treat. Join us if you can there are some seats left for our late lunch on Saturday. EDGE is leaving Cape Town for the weekend.

🇿🇦 On Heritage Day Long Weekend (26 & 27 September), we’re heading to Piketberg for a two-day collaboration with The Flying Fig Garden Bistro at The Voyager.

Two kitchens, one table, and a menu built around the landscape: fresh seafood, farm-to-table produce, venison and outdoor cooking.

For R695 per person, you’ll get a four-course meal and welcome cocktail, with EDGE joining The Flying Fig for something we don’t get to do very often — cook outside our usual four walls, in their world, with their produce and their approach.

And if Piketberg feels a little far for lunch or dinner, we’ve sorted that too.

A shuttle will run from Cape Town CBD to Piketberg on both days. Simply request a seat when making your booking.
