With a Little Help from Our Friends

One of the greatest gifts this industry has given us is friendship.

As Johanna and I started planning a celebration for our tenth wedding anniversary, we realised that many of our chef friends would be in KwaZulu-Natal at the same time.

What began as a simple party quickly evolved into something else entirely: a chance to bring together six of South Africa’s talented chefs for a celebratory evening in our home and kitchen.

On Friday 19 June 2026, we’ll be welcoming Kobus van der Merwe of Wolfgat, Vusi Ndlovu of EDGE, Wandile Mabaso of Les Créatifs, MasterChef’s Katlego Mlambo, and Rowan Larkin of Maha Point Waterfront to The LivingRoom for a collaborative six-course dinner inspired by the landscapes, flavours and produce of KwaZulu-Natal.

The day will begin with a visit to the market before we return to the restaurant to cook together, with each guest chef paired with a young member of our kitchen team.

Mentorship, collaboration and learning have always been central to what we do at The LivingRoom, and it feels fitting to share that spirit on a night built around friendship.

Each chef will bring their own perspective and style to the menu, creating a dinner that celebrates not only KwaZulu-Natal’s extraordinary pantry, but also the relationships that make our industry what it is.

We would love for you to join us. by @v4vusi

Next week we welcome the award-winning South-African chef, Vusi Ndlovu, who’s on a mission to unite the cornucopia of flavours that make up the African continent, one dish at a time.

Vusi and long-time business partner Absie Pantshwa are co-founders of EDGE, a roaming restaurant that aims to shape the perception of African cuisine by exploring the rich flavours of the vast continent.

Cooking almost exclusively over coals, Vusi presents a thrilling celebration of Pan-African cooking and heritage, putting under-the-radar, heirloom ingredients front and centre and reimagining what’s possible in the process.

He joins us with a blockbuster menu connecting cultures and regions through dishes like ‘Torched Mackerel, Jollof ‘Consommé’, Tomato Fondue’, ‘Smoked Suya Spiced Carrot, Iru Yoghurt, Peanut-Chilli Xo, Guanciale’ and ‘Goat Chops, Butternut Masala, Watercress’. This is food in full-throttle technicolour.

Get set for a residency that honours and uplifts the vibrant diversity of the African pantry into something groundbreakingly delicious. Hit the link in our bio to join us. taken in Carousel London by @v4vusi

EDGE x Vue Residency Closure

EDGE confirms the closure of its current location, marking the end of an important chapter and the beginning of a new phase for the brand.

Our last service at Vue Shortmarket will be on Saturday, 10th January 2026. It is unfortunate that we terminate our partnership so abruptly, it is due to irreconcilable differences.

Since opening, EDGE has been driven by a clear philosophy: thoughtful cooking, honest ingredients, and a deep respect for craft, people, and place. Over time, it has become clear that to continue building EDGE in a way that stays true to these values, a reset is both necessary and intentional.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” says founder Vusi Ndlovu. “EDGE is not closing — it’s evolving. We’re taking the time to reflect, refine, and reimagine how and where the brand should live next.”

The closure allows us to step back, reassess, and focus on developing a future home for Edge that better supports its creative direction, operational sustainability, and long-term vision.

EDGE would like to thank its guests, collaborators, suppliers, and staff who have supported the journey so far. The relationships built during this time remain deeply valued and form a strong foundation for what comes next.

This is not an ending — it’s a deliberate pause before the next chapter.

As the year comes to a close, we just want to pause for a moment — not to look back in numbers, but in memories.

To our people.
To our followers.
To our community.
To our tribe.

Thank you for showing up. For filling our tables. For trusting us with your nights, your celebrations, your conversations, your moments. EDGE isn’t just a space — it’s a meeting point. A place where cultures collide, where stories are shared over fire, food, bubbles, and cocktails, where strangers become familiar faces.

This year pushed us. It challenged us. It rewarded us.
We collaborated more. We created more. We dreamed louder.
We shared our fires with more people, more voices, more creatives, more brands who believe in what EDGE stands for.

Here’s to the collabs that surprised us.
The recognition that humbled us.
The awards that reminded us we’re on the right path — but never the final destination.

EDGE is built on energy, passion, and people. And none of it exists without you.

As we step into 2026, we do so with full hearts and hungry minds. Ready to build more. Create more. Collaborate more. Push further. Burn brighter. Spread the fires of Africa even wider.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
This is only the beginning.

Here’s to what we’ve built — and everything that’s still to come. 🔥✨ by @v4vusi
