Knihu doprovází bohatý obrazový materiál a speciální typografická abeceda. 🎬 Na 30. PAF New York: Bestiary w/ Valentýna Janů | SUN, OCT 25, 7 PM | Czech Center Cinema Pop fantasies turn strange, intimate, and a little unsettling. The second evening of PAF New York: Bestiary brings together moving-image works by Czech artist @valentynajanu and French artist @juliebena, exploring how we construct ourselves, perform identity, and try to understand the people around us. Janů’s Hair Flip (2021) moves through a dreamscape shaped by pop culture, music videos, and digital imagery, playfully probing femininity and self-presentation. Is Your Blue the Same as Mine? (2018) shifts inward, using choreography and monologue to ask whether two people can ever truly experience the same reality. Julie Béna’s Dirty Shirley (2024) takes the image of child star Shirley Temple into much darker territory, mixing celebrity culture, twisted characters, game-show imagery, and the American road trip in a surreal reflection on ambition, self-image, and expectations placed on women and girls. Following the screening, Valentýna Janů joins curator and writer Eric Guy Booker for an in-person Q&A. Presented as part of PAF New York: Bestiary, @pafpafpafpafpafpafpaf’s exploration of contemporary art, moving images, and the strange systems through which we see and classify them. 🗝️ • Valentýna Janů: 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐊𝐞𝐲𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 23. 10. 2026 – 10. 1. 2027 vernisáž: 22. 10. v 18:00 Galerie Kostka kurátor: Ján Gajdušek produkce: Nikol Hoangová PR: Zuzana Kolouchová, Filip Pleskač grafika: Jakub Kučera Video-instalace vznikla v produkci Mannschaft za podpory Českého fondu audiovize, The House a UMPRUM.

In Fall 2024, Valentýna Janů (@valentynajanu) and Vojtěch Fröhlich (@vojtechfrohlich) participated in our residency. This November 2, they return to Red Hook for a performance not to be missed. Presented as part of PAF New York 2026, Bestiary of Darkness explores the moving image as a space of hybrid forms, where darkness becomes a site of vulnerability, transformation, and altered ways of seeing. Known for her multimedia practice examining stereotypes, archetypes, labor, and spectacle, Valentýna Janů will premiere a new video, partly filmed on-site during her PW residency, following a woman’s passage through the nocturnal city, a space marked by both excitement and the fear of the unknown. A live performance will periodically activate the screening. Vojtěch Fröhlich will perform a site-specific work across the architecture of our building. Starting from the first floor, he will move through the three-storied building, as though revealing an alternate dimension defined by its own spatial rules and forms of perception. His physical performance pushes the boundaries of how performance can occupy and transform a space. The evening closes with a performance by 33 (@33___33_33), the Berlin-based project of Alexander Iezzi, Billy Bultheel, Ivan Cheng, and CEM, whose experimental project is known for heavy electronics, industrial tonality and operatic voices. Monday, November 2, 2026 Doors 7PM | Program begins 8PM 📍 Pioneer Works, 159 Pioneer St, Brooklyn 🔗Tickets available now at the link in bio. This program is made possible with support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and @czechcenternewyork.
