This summer was fun

A love letter to friends

The Rocky Horror Picture Show with the shadow cast of @nycrhps was easily one of the best things I witnessed this summer. Maybe even this year.
Tim Curry’s Dr. Frank-N-Furter will forever be dancing through midnight screenings, glittering for generations to come, from Transylvania and beyond. Fifty-one years on (the longest running theatrical release in film history), the party is still going.

I also picked up this amazing book by Bill Henkin, filled with wonderful snapshots.

🖤 To absent friends. 🖤 taken in Angelica Movie Theatre by @valentynajanu

I’ve finally met my ultimate crush, Lee Bontecou. Then my phone died, and it was just me and her, staring at each other for quite a while. 🖤

Artist in Residence: Valentýna Janů | JUL 1 – AUG 31 | ISCP

Czech artist Valentýna Janů is currently in New York as an artist in residence at ISCP, in a residency supported by Czech Center New York.

Recipient of the Other Visions Award at PAF Olomouc and the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, Janů works across installation, film, and performance. Her practice combines hopeful narratives with reflective essays, creating scenic environments and moving-image works that ask fundamental questions about life, freedom, fear, and social imagination.

During her two-month residency, Janů is developing her new film Darklings, co-produced by Mannschaft, as well as a new performance. The film continues her long-term exploration of darkness as an ambivalent space, one associated with fear and uncertainty, but also with emancipation, anonymity, and alternative forms of bodily and social freedom.

The residency will include work-in-progress presentations and open studio visits as part of the ISCP Open House on July 22.

Making a movie is so weird.
You get an idea and then a group of friends somehow agrees to spend months helping you make it real. They listen to your weird thoughts, ask smart questions, solve problems you didn’t know existed, and make the whole thing a hundred times better. Then everyone stays awake for way too long and somehow a film starts slowly appearing. It’s wild.

To all my friends who became heroes along the way: thank you!! And get ready, we are not done yet. The madness continues. 💥

List of heroes and heroines (still growing)
@krystof_hluze @nevrlamonina_ @sipkovyruzen @neuesame @dj.bingoo @katarina_gramatova @ondrovatereza @marekdusil @tereza_kopecka__ @paulinemma @lukasjanicik @miss_cool_cat @voj7ech @stepan_marko_ @mullerova.denisa @lenaknappova and many many more

The film is co-produced by @mannschaftcz with generous support of @statni.fond.audiovize @umprum_praha @the_house.art @czechcenternewyork and @favu_brno
And was developed over the time of my Phd research at @umprum_praha and residencies at @launchpadart and @pioneerworks supported by @pafpafpafpafpafpafpaf by @valentynajanu
