This is something I should have done a long time ago.

Not just visiting, but truly experiencing KOUS KOUS Valle by my dear friend Chef Moumen Nouri.

How is it that we have a little taste of Morocco right here in Valle de Guadalupe?

The spices, the colors, the aromas, the generosity of the table. Every dish carries a piece of Moumen’s culture, his memories, his traditions, and the flavors of where he comes from.

And somehow, it all feels completely at home here in Baja.

Moumen has brought Morocco to Valle de Guadalupe in a way that feels personal and completely his own, honoring where he comes from while embracing the land and ingredients around him.

If you’re in Valle de Guadalupe, KOUS KOUS cannot be missed. Michelin Recommended for three years running, this is one of those tables that deserves a place on your Valle itinerary.

My only regret is that it took me this long to get here.

Processing Grapes in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico. This is one of my favorite times of year in Mexico. I get to help my friend Kris of @vinoslechuza start the harvest that turns into one of the best wines on the planet. We are stomping with our feet, but if you aren’t careful, ya may lose a finger in the machine that removes the stems! #WINE #valledeguadalupe #mexico #vino #baja

This Sunday, May 24, I turned 55. Double nickel.

Great way to celebrate life.

May is my birthday month, and once Gemini season officially started on the 21st, the celebrations just kept rolling. Wine with friends at a vineyard in Vista, Steak 48, Joey's, lunches, conversations, a Padres Star Wars night wearing my “Yo Soy Tu Padre” shirt, after-game drinks at Kamon, family dinner with my sisters at Carne y Hueso, pool time, music, wine, and a road trip to Valle de Guadalupe with great people.

Sunday in Valle was exactly what it needed to be.

@casaemiliana with @laurae_anguiano and Miguel, sparkling Tempranillo, Chardonnay, charcuterie, and conversations. Then Lechuza with Kristin delicious wine, empanadas, tacos, ceviche, music, and a birthday serenade. Magoni under the oak tree with live music from Ilse, great wine, and one of those moments where you stop and realize life is pretty damn good.

We ended the night at Umbra, celebrated with German chocolate cake and carajillos, and closed it out with long conversations at Montevalle Resort. The next morning was brunch, pool time, relaxing, and one last slow Valle morning before driving home.

At 55, I feel grateful. Grateful for friendship, experiences, conversations, health, laughter, travel, wine, music, and the privilege of continuing to build a life filled with meaningful moments.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with me this week and weekend. Truly. And open to more celebrations!

Double nickel. Still moving forward. And apparently… I still can’t drive 55.
