Next show is 10/17 at @vansmokey upstate. Video by @kewlhaze “Led by vocalist/ guitarist Michael Guggino, Brooklyn trio Freaky Wilderness’s debut is a wonderfully fuzzy and energetic
introduction to the band. Accompanied by Alleen Brophy on bass and Christian Rutledge on drums, Guggino has conjured a record that sits in the sweet spot where the
psych-edged stoner-rock of bands such as Dead Meadow and Nebula collides with the gruff melodic explorations of Crazy Horse and Howlin Raim. In the process the band has come up with the kind of gnarly classic-rock album that you don’t hear enough of in the current musical climate.
For proof, take the shimmering psych stew of the centrepiece and title track that snakes and pulses with style. Or opener
‘Spirit Spouse’, on which the spirit of the aforementioned Dead Meadow is summoned.
Then there’s Smudge The Sky’, which demonstrates that behind the fuzzed-up riffs, wailing solos and stoned grooves, there are some deft songwriting chops at work.”

Happy ten years to the first LP, formerly self-titled, “Liz de Lise”, now “Meat from Bone”. I’m so happy to share that we’ll be re-releasing the record under Lizdelise in the new year. Thank you to Christian for letting me and Sam sneak into a closing Times Square studio to record these songs overnight, for many nights. I slept on a cot in the studio during the day, and as soon as the last session ended, I would emerge to meet Sam and make this record happen. Sundays, I walked through Times Square at 5AM to catch a megabus (RIP) back to my dad’s in New Jersey, delirious and thrilled. Thank you Sam for doing this just because you believed in the songs— and to Zeb, Timothy, Jeff, and Chris for adding your magic for the same reason.
Thank you, Marky, for doing the most insane tour in the oldest car, without air bags, after knowing me for less than a year, playing these songs with me some of the strangest places. Thank you to David Dorfman Dance for giving “Baby Bird” a continued life, and to Plish and Emma for creating the imagery for this record. And to Connecticut College for being the connector to so many of these people…and to my parents for helping me go there..and I guess also for bringing me into the world. How far back should the thanks go? Probably further!
Shouts out / sorry to the kids I taught at an art center after those insane weekends lol.
(The first photo is from a year ago (!!) at the Jentel Residency. Those songs will be ready soon enough ◡̈ )
