POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Patterns of the Land Art Retreat.

Patterns from Muslim heritage in Spain (namely the Alcazar in Seville this time) combined with inspiration directly from the land around us.

Talking about spatial justice, the tools we have in our hands, the stories we could tell with them, the heritage of the place and threading things all together.

The biggest thanks to @henriettaszovati for inviting, collaborating and hosting, to @chefshama for the delicious meals, and to the amazing participants, couldn't have asked for a better group.

And to everyone who shared, shared again, and prayed for me, thank you.

So who wants another art retreat 👀

The launch of @khidrcollective latest zine, Holding Joy, wrapped up 25 in the best possible way. It's a really beautiful publication.
Joy is imperative, and a part of it, and resistance is resistance. Shutting down arms factories and dismantling quadcopters and drones is resistance. Thank you @khidrcollective for inviting me to be a part of such a beautiful evening and gorgeous zine.

Honored to have recently been featured in @khidrcollective 's latest issue "Holding Joy", alongside an incredible set of distinguished writers, artists, creatives, teachers and revolutionaries who have been captured by the state for having the audacity to resist the normalization of mass murder.

In the backdrop of the harrowing genoc!de in G@za, many of us have struggled to comprehend what our role is beyond the theater constructed by modernity; reducing a multiplex array of industrialized violence to a mere spectatorship of suffering— where we watch from afar as our beloved P@lest!nian family members are slaughtered.

I reflected on the ways in which we still continue to make sense of this ongoing mass extermination; of how and where we find joy; whether it can even exist, or should, in such circumstances.

A shout out to all the amazing contributors; to the tremendous hearts involved and their determination in bringing to life such a beautiful and necessary collection through such a trying time.

You can find a link to purchase your own copy through @khidrcollective 's bio, please do consider following and supporting their essential work.

**the last slide is a snippet from my upcoming project entitled Cry Freedom, dedicated to the will and resistance of all those in G@z@.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us on Sunday for the launch of our fifth zine ‘holding joy’. We were so touched by how many people showed up, and how together we held joy in so many ways both during the day and night, whilst remembering the undefeatable human spirit of those imprisoned in the UK, and our family in Gaza, Sudan and across the world. From the children’s workshops led by @lunaspottery to the music by Rizmi @zoya.khadija_ , this was a group effort, alhamdullilah.

A big thanks to the panellists and performers, and a special thank you to @advocacyacademy, specifically @farahelemara, for hosting us and being so helpful and supportive. Thank you to our family and friends who came to support and help us clear up after! We also can’t forget the delicious catering by Fatima from Lebanese Falafel & Shawarma @brixton.village, and last but not least Huzayfa @hdgalleria who captured the night so well in these photos.

The Khidr Collective is made by us all, and we’d love for more people to get involved. If you are interested, we’d love to hear from you, so we can continue creating together 💛 contact us at khidrcollective@gmail.com

In honour of the third Ahista Stories Live approaching this Sunday, here are some highlights from the past three years of @ahista.stories🔥

1. The sense of achievement pulling off the first one as a team of one (with friends and fam supporting day of)! I moderated three panels with short breaks in between😅

2. Growing to a team of four before ASL 2024 @EasyPeasySustainability @TheSineadKhan @AnamPeeran🌸

3. As you can see, it's more fun with them!

4. Working with @PaarasAbbas and trying to get over perfectionism and creative paralysis thru block printing🤣

5. Sharing the stage (again) with long-time friend and campaigner @OhSoEthical at ASL 2024💗

6. Educating people about the destruction of Palestinian textile and garment production🤌🏽🍉

7. Witnessing @TheSineadKhan fly running the first Confessions of a Shopaholic🛍 Since then we've further expanded our thinking/programming of activities beyond the binary of talks and mending/upcycling workshops.

8. Watching the community grow! Sometimes I see pictures like this of people I don't recognise at all even tho I was at the event😅 A reminder of how far we've come.

9. Bringing the Bring Your Own Fabric concept to life with @PaarasAbbas🧵 I found delivering the presentation on the heritage of Sindhi ajraks particularly rewarding. Cultural🤝🏽environmental sustainability♻️

10. Bringing Take Action Against Big Fashion (@RememberWhoMadeThem) to @ahista.stories X @IslamicReliefUK with my friend @Zainoted✊🏽

Only God knows what's next👀

Some key takeaways from our mega collab with @IslamicReliefUK and @RememberWhoMadeThem for #MuslimClimateActionWeek🔥 We hope attendees feel called to action to live out their faith through the pursuit of environmental and social justice✊🏽

Please drop @RememberWhoMadeThem a message if you'd like to host Take Action Against Big Fashion, a workshop that unpacks the root causes of the harmful environmental and human impacts of the fashion industry; reviews successful campaigns to tackle them; and includes interactive activities focused on solutions🤌🏽

We're winding down our events programme for the summer now, but you might want to mark 12th October in your calendars🗓👀

Join us for the first edition of @RememberWhoMadeThem’s TAABF workshop facilitated entirely by Muslim organisers for @IslamicReliefUK's #MuslimClimateActionWeek✊🏽

With an accelerating clothing waste crisis, rising production numbers and ever-lower prices in the fashion industry, every action aimed at holding Big Fashion to account matters♻️ We all have a role to play - come learn yours in this free, hands-on workshop facilitated by @zainab.slow.fashion and @zainoted (yep, double Zainab)!

Send this one to your friends trying to thrift their way out of the exploitative fashion system, and grab your ticket via the link in bio🙊 Together, we can grow a climate movement rooted in faith, justice, and hope✨️ #OurEarthOurAmanah

On Monday night at our Bridge Park Community Kitchen, we were joined by friends and family of the late Dr. Haider Rahim. 🌻

Haider was kind, caring and generous. He didn't discriminate when it comes to food! He loved traditional dishes and trying new things.

If you would like to sponsor a Community Kitchen service in memory of a loved one, feeding up to 100 community members in one night, please email fahim@sufra-nwlondon.org.uk.

Tomorrow at 3pm we’re hosting GSA’s Close of Play: Climate Energy and Creative Action event with Khidr Collective and we’re delighted to welcome back @artwritinggsofa graduate Maria Howard to lead a conversation on Issue 4 of Khidr Collective Zine ‘Water’
.
‘Water’ contains essays, fiction, illustrations, photography and multimedia art that explore the contributors’ relationship with water. They look at how water ‘affects some of our political and economic structures, and how it transports our personal memories. [They] explore the manifestation of water in our daily lives, the comfort it provides to those who are suffering, and the mercy it carries when it falls from the skies.’
.
Khidr Collective is a UK-based multidisciplinary arts collective which curates and platforms the work of Muslim artists. Khidr Collective also collaborates with writers, poets, illustrators, filmmakers, photographers and creatives more broadly to produce original work.

Book via Eventbrite, link in bio.
Open to all, please join us.
.
.
This event is part of GSA’s ‘Close of Play: Climate Emergency and Creative Action’ series which explores the ways in which creative actions and multi-disciplinary practice can address climate emergency, sustainability, and climate justice. A different part of GSA hosts each event.
