Most people say 3 months of preconception prep is enough but I disagree.. you should spend 6-12 months improving your health. It takes 3 months to improve egg and sperm quality… But factor in life and be realistic about how much you can actually change in 3 months… The more time you give yourself, the healthier you’ll be which ensures you’ll have a healthy pregnancy & smoother postpartum journey. #preconceptioncare #conciousparenting #fertilityjourney
What we’ve both done for preconception prep - Getting morning sun & blocking blue light after sunset (sunlight helps ‘turn on’ your hormone production process & blue light messes it up!) - 5km morning walks: support lymphatic system to flush out toxins - Eating lots of seafood: high in omega 3 to support hormone production & improve egg quality - Getting 9hrs of sleep every night: to allow the body to restore itself - Drinking 3L of mineralised water every day - Rarely eating out: we genuinely love cooking at home & doing so helps us know were eating good quality food - Taking supplements: specific to us based off our blood test results (it’s important that you don’t just self prescribe random supps) - Keeping our screen time under 3hrs a day (to protect our peace fr) - Scheduling in fun!!! card games, kitchen dance parties, hikes, camping & exploring are our idea of fun. Don’t let this time get toooo serious xx Save this & send it to your man so you can be in preconception prep together 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 #preconceptioncare #couplegoals #fertilityjourney

Even in healthy couples, the chance of getting pregnant in a single cycle is only around 10–20%. That's why relying only on a period-tracking app doesn't always tell the full story. A few things to remember: • Hormone levels naturally change from month to month. • Ovulation doesn't always happen on the same cycle day. • The highest chance of conception is usually during the 1–2 days before ovulation. • LH urine tests can help identify your fertile window. • And not every menstrual cycle includes ovulation. Whether you're trying to conceive or avoid pregnancy, don't just ask: "What does my app predict?" Ask: "Did I actually ovulate?" Did you know the chance of pregnancy in a single cycle is only about 10–20%? As an OB-GYN, this is the appointment I wish every woman booked before trying to get pregnant. It’s called a preconception visit Most women don’t come see me until they’re already pregnant. Here’s what we’d cover: 📋 Your medical history & your partner’s medical history We’ll review chronic medical conditions, previous pregnancies, surgeries, medications, family history, because both of your histories can affect fertility, pregnancy, and the health of your future baby. 💊 Your medications Not every medication is safe in pregnancy. I’d make sure you stop, switch, or continue the right medications before you conceive. 🧬 Genetic carrier screening Even healthy people can be carriers for inherited conditions. Knowing before pregnancy gives you more options and helps you make informed decisions. 🩸 Labs that may be worth checking Depending on your history, we may check things like blood count, iron stores, blood sugar, thyroid function, immunity, or vitamin D because identifying problems now is easier than discovering them after you’re pregnant. 🤍 Your prenatal vitamin I’d make sure you’re taking one with the nutrients that matter most before pregnancy, because your baby’s brain and spinal cord begin developing before many women even know they’re pregnant. 📅 Ovulation and timing How to track ovulation. Are you actually ovulating? Are you having intercourse during your fertile window? 🍎 Lifestyle factors We’ll talk about: • Building a healthy weight before pregnancy • Strength training and regular movement • Getting enough protein and fiber • Limiting alcohol and avoiding nicotine/vaping • How much caffeine is okay • Sleep habits • Environmental or occupational exposures • Mental health and stress management ❓ Your questions This is your time. I always leave room for your questions because no two women and no two pregnancy journeys are the same. 📌 Save this for the season when you’re ready to grow your family. Follow @jolaiya for evidence-based fertility, pregnancy, women’s health, and motherhood. 🤍 #PreconceptionCare #TryingToConceive #FertilityTips #OBGYN #WomensHealth
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the information around pregnancy, fertility, and where to even start, this is your sign to slow down and have the conversation. I recently had a preconception counseling appointment with Oula Health and got so many helpful tips from a midwife and I genuinely wish more women knew care like this existed earlier in their family planning journeys. One thing I really loved about Oula is that their midwives work hand in hand with their OB-GYNs, so the experience feels both supportive and medically backed at the same time. I walked out feeling way more informed, less anxious, and honestly just more empowered about the whole process. #ttc #prepregnancyplanning #oulahealth #tryingtoconceive
most women who come to me- a pelvic floor physical therapist- before pregnancy tell me they’re already active. they run, they lift, they do yoga. and they’re genuinely surprised when I tell them that most of the time that’s not enough to prepare for pregnancy. being “in shape” and being truly ready for pregnancy are two different things. what pregnancy asks of your body — the load on your pelvic floor, the demand on your core, the stability requirements of your hips and pelvis — is very specific. and the general workouts most women are doing leave big holes where your body can compensate. a left hip that works a little bit harder than the right one. abs that activate unequally. breathing that doesn’t quite reach your pelvic floor.  small things that can create big problems during pregnancy  as a pelvic floor PT, when I assess someone’s pregnancy readiness, I’m looking for old injuries that have not healed 100%, muscle imbalances, hip mobility and stability, breathing patterns, and joint load tolerance.  the good news? all of this is completely addressable, especially in the window before pregnancy, before your hormones change and baby starts placing stress on your body.  right now you have the time and the capacity to actually build the foundation that pregnancy will rely on!! if you want to head into pregnancy feeling strong, prepared, and confident
✅ comment BEFORE  and i’ll send you more info about my before pregnancy program, designed for women who are thinking about getting pregnant in the next 3-12 months if this hits, make sure to follow along @dr_kayla_dpt where we chat all things pelvic floor physical therapy, pregnancy prep that actually fits into your life, and low-tox living. let’s be besties ♡ #ttc #tryingtoconceive #preconception #trimesterzero
what taking my fertility seriously actually looks like: *first let me preface with, your fertility is built in what you do most of the time, I do everything from a place of balance and I don’t think anything in wellness or health should be all or nothing xo* whole nutrient dense foods as the foundation, our eggs are literally built from the food we eat and we have the power to transform egg quality with it! I’ve been focusing on organic grass fed animal protein, lots of red meat, eggs, wild fatty fish, anti-inflammatory fruits and veg, complex carbs, healthy fats & fiber at every meal I don’t really eat processed foods or processed sugar + avoid inflammatory oils or trans fat (these are not great for egg quality) & I’ve limited alcohol, BUT that said if we’re out for dinner I don’t stress and will enjoy wine and pizza, thoroughly enjoying yourself and not restricting = healthy intentional supplementation: I’m taking a methylated prenatal, CoQ10, omega 3 🐟, probiotics + prebiotics, creatine, collagen, electrolytes & magnesium *lmk if you want me to send you exactly what I’m taking* lowering stress & supporting adrenals: stress steals from hormone production this can impact hormone balance & conceiving, we’re getting morning light to support circadian rhythm + cortisol, slowing down, prioritizing rest, meditating & replenishing minerals prioritizing sleep: 8 + hours is a non negotiable, poor sleep impacts hormones and can disrupt ovulation non toxic products: a lot of what we come in contact with is out of our control so we avoid chemicals in our home 🤸🏻‍♀️daily movement: mobility + muscle is so important for hormone regulation, cortisol & longevity + for a healthy pregnancy + labour + easier postpartum what’s one thing on this list you’re already doing & one you want to add? #ttc #preconception #fertility #preconceptionprep
because if I don’t commit now, I’ll absolutely chicken out later 😝 Preconception ≠ TTC… sometimes it’s just deciding the future version of you is going to be brave and then building the body, mindset, and habits to back her up 😅 Just trying to feel strong enough to trust myself next time. No epidural birth #3 is officially on the vision board… please remind me I said this later 😂 #Preconception #PCOSJourney #motherhoodjourney #pregnancyjourney
