Every job exists to solve a business problem.

So you’re already paid to solve one.

Your employer pays you because you can solve it
That proves your skills are worth something
It doesn’t prove a stranger will pay for them
That part you still have to test

No new idea needed. Get paid for what you already know, by someone who isn’t your employer.

Follow, and I’ll show you what to do with what you find.

Could you name the problem your job solves in one sentence? Yes or no?

They didn’t pay me for expertise

They saw what their work could look like with my setup
And just wanted me to show them how

And that’s how I made $3,000 teaching a colleague something that I don’t claim to be an expert at.

So, what about you?

Is there something that you’re good at that people around you also want to learn about?

That may just be the easiest opportunity to make your first dollar outside of your day job!

Can’t think of anything yet?

I didn’t quit my 9-5 to start building.

I used it to fund my 5-9, building one small income stream at a time, while the salary took care of the bills.

That’s the part most people take for granted.

They wait until they’re desperate to leave - or when they’re made to leave - before they even think about building simmering for themselves.

That’s when they feel stressed & pressured.

Why?

Because they building for survival.

Not in my case, though.
When I build, I did it for adventure.

There’s a difference.

What would you build in your 5-9?

Here’s why one conversation a week matters more than you think 👇

On your own, you only have your own experience to go on
But when you start conversations with others, you get to collect their stories & struggles too.

You also get real data on the problems people around you have right now, and that’s wayyy better than what you guess they might be

Of course, not every chat will lead somewhere
That’s fine, it’s expected, so just keep going, one a week

Remember, you’re collecting real data so you don’t have to rely on guesswork anymore.

Do you already have someone in mind for this week?
Drop them a text now!

2026 was a pretty rough year for me.
But it’s also one that gave me so much growth.

The highs & lows in the last 9 months gave me so much perspective into what I could really achieve if I put my heart & soul into it.

So as we enter the last few months of 2026, I wish for all your hard work to pay off, for all the seeds you’ve planted to sprout, and for all the sacrifices made to be worth it.

You’ve come a long way now, even if it’s not where or who you want to be yet - emphasis on “yet” - you’ll get there eventually, so just keep going, one step at a time.

You’ve got this!

Your fellow hustler,

Here’s why I didn’t trust my own answer to “what am I good at?”

I worked for so long that it became second nature to me.
But the people around me saw them differently

So instead of second guessing myself, I just asked the people around me what they thought of me.

These people already knew me well, so they’d definitely have something to say.

Some ignored me; others gave me some great perspectives
But one completely changed how I saw my own skills

And that one reply later turned into my first freelance consulting gig.

I wouldn’t have known I could make money from skills & experiences I picked up from my day job if I didn’t text my friend.

So, what do you think your friends might need your help with?
All you need to do is ask.

This is the ultimate plot twist of our millennial careers 🤷🏽‍♂️

You’ve spent years grinding it out at your job, analysing trends, conducting trainings, writing reports, and presenting million-dollar strategies to grow the business.

And somehow, no one told you those same skills could be used to help you build a side business outside of your 9-5.

Yep, you heard that right.

Not another job. Not another boss.
YOUR business, YOUR rules.

And yes, earning another $5k/month on top of your salary is VERY doable with the skills & experience you already have.

I ran several side hustles while working full-time at Google.

But most people don’t know I had even more ideas that never made it past research.

I only had about 2 hours a day to work on them, so I couldn’t just take on every idea.

I had to test them first so I know what’s worth committing to.

Here’s what that test looks like:

Step 1 - Find 3-5 people in your contacts with a problem you’ve solved before

Step 2 - Offer to solve it for a coffee or a meal, and tell them you’re testing an idea

Step 3 - If they agree, solve it

Then ask yourself:

- Did I enjoy it?
- Could it make money?
- Can I see myself doing it every week?

If you answered yes to all 3, you might have something worth building

Before you ask AI for a business idea, read this 👇

Don’t ask it what to sell.
Let it ask YOU the questions instead.

Here’s the prompt I use after a brain dump:

“I want to come up with ideas for a potential side business I can alongside my day job, so I want you to be my business strategist and brainstorm this with me.

You’ll find a raw brain dump below about my day job, my hobbies, what I’m learning and the problems I’ve solved, for myself and for others.

First, sort it into the skills I have, the problems I’ve solved and the results I got.

Then interview me about it, one question at a time, to dig deeper, understand me better, clarify the facts, clear up anything that is ambiguous or incoherent, and elaborate more on interesting areas. The goal is to extract enough context from me to identify opportunities that I can explore turning into a side hustle that is aligned with my intentions, working style, values, and goals.

When you have enough, suggest 3-5 things I could offer. For each one, tell me who it’s for, the problem it solves for them and the outcome they’d get. Don’t get too deep into the “how” for now, and focus more on the “what”.

Score and evaluate your suggestions based on ease of implementation, practical constraints, and monetisability. Reject options that score low on these areas, and come up with better options to replace them. Only share your top 3-5 recommendations with me.

I talk mine out with @wisprflow, then work through it with @claudeai

Save this for your next brain dump.

One thing I’ve learned after building businesses while working a 9-5 is that what you’re working on matters just as much as (if not more than) what you’re building.

Sure, making more money is important.
But it was never just about that; in fact, it was so much more.

It was about having more options for myself, and having the freedom & ability to choose what & how I wanted to spend my time & energy according to the phase of life I’m in and what my priorities are in that period.
