It started with a rash I couldn’t explain.

Laundry. Shampoo. Lotion. Kitchen spray—I thought I was doing everything “right.”

Then I found out chemical products don’t have to list all their ingredients on the label.

That truth hit hard. So I made my own. 🌿

One wine bottle of homemade laundry soap turned into Tangie.

And here we are—on my birthday—celebrating plastic-free, toxin-free living with YOU. 💚

Use Birthday40 on the website to get 40% off sitewide only for today.

Also, I’d love to hear your story. What inspired your first switch?

Today's little kitchen win: smoky sundried tomato hummus. 😋

One can of beans made about 16 ounces, and the whole thing took me maybe 15 minutes including cleanup.

That's partly because I already keep the ingredients around.

One thing I really like about making hummus myself is knowing exactly what's in it. I can control the salt and the oils and make it taste the way I want it.

I'm not making everything in my kitchen from scratch. 😂

But there are certain things that are so easy once you've made them a few times that I wonder why I ever thought they were complicated.

Hummus is one of those for me.

Gray roots don't exactly make an appointment before they show up. 😂

That's one reason we made Enroot small enough to keep wherever you might actually need it.

Bathroom drawer? Easy.

Makeup bag? Yep.

Tucked into your purse for when you're away from home? That's the idea.

It's a temporary root touch-up stick designed for those in-between times when gray roots are showing but you're not ready to color your hair again.

Small product. Doesn't need much space. Easy to keep within reach.

Where would yours live: bathroom drawer, makeup bag or purse?

This sign made me laugh because dogs don't always poop in the grass.

Sometimes they ROLL in it. 🤢😂

Or mud.

Or something dead.

Or some mysterious outdoor substance you would really rather not identify.

And THAT is when the dog bath suddenly moves to the top of the day's priority list.

It's also exactly why Tangie has shampoo AND conditioner bars for dogs.

Because dogs are going to dog. 🐶

26,726 pounds.

That's how much plastic recovery Tangie has supported through our partnership with CleanHub.

I talk a lot about reducing plastic in the products we make. But I've always known that making less plastic is only part of the problem. There's already an enormous amount of plastic waste out there.

That's why Tangie also supports plastic recovery through CleanHub.

Our support currently goes toward Clean Goa and Clean Mathura in India, where plastic waste is collected and managed before it can continue making its way into the environment.

CleanHub's dashboard puts our total impact at the equivalent of 606,137 half-liter plastic bottles.

Seeing that number makes this feel a whole lot less abstract to me.

We make little bars in Florida. And those little bars are connected to something happening thousands of miles away. ❤️

Reduce what we can. Help recover what's already out there.

Apparently I've been a cloth hanky person for a VERY long time. 😂

That's me with my dad, Terry, probably around 1970... wiping his nose with his own hanky.

My dad always carried a cloth handkerchief. Always.

And somewhere along the way, I picked up the habit too. I still carry one today.

It's funny how some of the things we do as adults aren't things we consciously decided to start doing. They're just little habits we watched someone we loved do over and over again.

I lost my dad in June 2003, and I miss him every day. I'm so grateful for photos like this. ❤️

And apparently I've been borrowing his hankies since about age three. 😂 by @tangieco

I walked into Habitat for Humanity in Eustis and somehow walked out with basically a whole Fall outfit for $20. 😂

Top. Corduroy pants. Shoes.

Two of the pieces were brand new with the tags still on them. I figure the full retail value was somewhere around $200.

THIS is why I love a good thrift-store find. Something doesn't have to be newly made to be new to me.

Now I need Florida to cooperate and give me weather cool enough to actually wear it. 🍂 by @tangieco

This may be the most accurate vacation schedule I've ever made. 😂

Day 2 of my bestie cruise and apparently we had exactly two things on the agenda:

SPA + EAT :)

That's it. That's the schedule.

Sometimes I love a trip packed with things to do. And sometimes the whole point is NOT having anywhere you need to be.

This was definitely that kind of day. ❤️

This one feels pretty darn good. ❤️

Enroot® is officially a registered Tangie trademark.

Enroot started with a really simple problem: what do you do when your gray roots are showing, but you're not ready to color your hair again?

We worked through the product, the six shades, the packaging, the name, and all the little details that go into turning an idea into something you can actually hold in your hand.

And now the name is officially ours. 😊

There are a lot of unglamorous steps behind building a product and a brand. This is one of those little milestones that makes me stop for a minute and think, we did that.

Pretty exciting day for this little green stick. 💚

Nature does something for me that nothing else can.

It calms me. Energizes me. Fills me back up.

Sometimes that's a walk. Sometimes it's doing absolutely nothing in a hammock. And sometimes Darrel and I disappear with Terra, our tiny Runaway Rangerunner camper.

We call her Terra, short for Terrapin, because she's basically a strong little turtle carrying our tiny home wherever we go. 😂

I've spent enough of my life thinking I should always be doing something. Nature is one of the places where that feeling gets quiet.

Give me some trees, fresh air and a hammock and I'm pretty golden. ❤️ by @tangieco

Tangie wasn't actually supposed to be called Tangie. 😂

Before Tangie, there was Earth First.

Around 2010, my friend Tiffany and I were running a little brick-and-mortar store called Karma Farm. I had also started making natural cleaning products, and somewhere along the way we decided this might be our next business together.

So we filed to trademark Earth First.

And then apparently we went ALL IN while we waited. 😂

We printed brochures and business cards. We labeled products. We even bought brown scrubs and had our logo embroidered on them because we were going to be like “nurses for the Earth.” 😂

The initial trademark search looked good. Then, about five months and three weeks into what we expected to be a six-month process, our trademark attorney called.

As I remember it, a company in Australia had applied for the same name just a few weeks before us. Their application went through first and ours wasn't going to.

Everything we had just branded Earth First was suddenly useless.

Expensive business lesson learned: don't get too far ahead of your trademark.

Find out what your trademark attorney says you actually need to do while the application is pending—and don't assume an initial search means you're home free.

And yes, 15+ years later, Doug is STILL my trademark attorney. 😂

Earth First didn't survive.

But the idea did. And eventually it became Tangie. Angie and Tiffany wearing brown Earth First scrubs with Mother Nature at an environmental event in 2011. by @tangieco

This is what Tangie's Hand & Body Wash looks like in my actual bathroom.

Nothing staged here. I was getting ready to floss and brush my teeth and realized I should show you what the finished wash actually looks like coming out of the foaming pump.

That's one thing that's sometimes hard to understand about concentrates when you're looking at a little solid bar online.

You're not washing your hands with the bar.

You use the concentrate to make the wash that goes into your foaming dispenser. Then this 👆 is what you use every day.

One little Tangie bar sitting on a shelf doesn't really show you that whole story.

Sometimes you just need to see the soap. 😂 by @tangieco
