Over the past few weeks, we have been working closely with the @otherkind.design and @plmsda team to curate Durable Objects, a @cloudflare exhibition at @sohn.sf in San Francisco.

The premise is simple: how can Cloudflare’s digital Durable Objects be reinterpreted through the physical objects we encounter, use and keep in everyday life?

Rooted in our practice’s ethos of experimentation, we explored a series of spatial arrangements and visual anchors that bring these objects into dialogue with one another, while respecting the integrity of SŌHN’s thoughtfully crafted interior.

Excited to share what the whole team has been working on the past couple months:

Cloud Coffee: “Durable Objects”
by @cloudflare

For two days, we’re turning SŌHN into part coffee shop, part gallery! Come for coffee and light bites. Head upstairs, where Durable Objects leave the cloud and take physical form. ☁️

Next Thursday, Oct 15-16 at SŌHN. Hope to see yall there :) by @temporaryoffice

Every design begins with a diagram of intent. For Tarrytown, we initially mapped spatial boundaries through material contrast—using varied surface textures to anchor the progression from culinary fire to agricultural field. In execution, we adapted this concept into a monolithic self-leveling concrete floor across all three zones. To bring definition to this continuous canvas, we shifted the tactile narrative upward into custom millwork, tailored furniture, and overhead lighting. Warm timber joinery, raw steel detailing, and integrated seating now articulate each zone‘s identity, allowing the diagram’s original rhythm to remain clear while letting the concrete serve as a quiet, grounding background for the design.

In the coming days, we’ll share more as we anticipate the completion of the project - stay tuned! taken in Tarrytown, New York by @temporaryoffice

The dining space unfolds as an inner sanctuary, gently illuminated by an existing skylight. Bathed in changing daylight, it becomes a place of stillness to enjoy fine food. Suspended above by metal grating, a curated canopy of plants—sourced from local growers and community members—was imagined as a floating garden, softening the space and quietly reminding us of the natural ecosystem we inhabit.

In anticipation of @tarrytown_local opening, we’re excited to share some of the early concepts and explorations that shaped the project.

A café-grocer is a unique hybrid — part local market, part dining — bringing together fresh produce, pantry staples, and freshly prepared food under one roof.

Rather than filling every inch with merchandise, we envisioned the grocery entry as a moment to slow down. A welcoming bench invites visitors to pause, enjoy a bite, and reconnect with the simple ritual of choosing everyday ingredients. Grocery shopping becomes more than a transaction — this is a small moment of gastronomic reflection.

Brezno light-filled interactive core
-
The new school establishes itself as the ‘new social hub’ of Brezno, enhancing community engagement and maintaining strong connections with the surrounding landscape and existing sports complex. Public atriums, a dynamic roofscape, and playscapes create vibrant gathering spaces. By weaving interactive volumes into light-filled modular classrooms, the design transforms the everyday school into a network of chance encounters and shared learning moments.

Figure x MAZi Architects x Temporary Office are one of the winners of Los Angeles’ Small Lots, Big Impacts competition!

Share A Lot (or A Little) proposes to split Site B into five small lot subdivisions. Generous ground floor yards separate building volumes, preserving a sense of home so often missing from higher density housing. Importantly, we believe the act of sharing and being communal should be a daily choice, and that it is possible to have the best of both worlds and the fifth lot is exemplary of this potential. In the most ideal sharing scenario, individual owners of other parcels come together to co-own this fifth lot. For some groups, the structure on this fifth lot can become a shared guest house, a daycare, a co-working studio, a cooperative rental, or even house a 4-car garage; the key is communal use and ownership.

The hope is that the structuring of the lots will incentivize some to self-organize, share, and build a resilient mosaic of independence and interdependence. Ultimately, as we endeavor to replace scarcity with lower barriers to ownership, equity, and sharing, the city can eventually become even more so a reflection of its inhabitants.

The jury noted: “Share A Lot introduces a different visual vocabulary for L.A., but one that incorporates some decidedly Angeleno qualities like the portico and the gardens associated with each home. The potential cooperative ownership of the fifth parcel offers a new model for sharing resources that still ensures at least eight units on this small site. The repetition of parts and rigor of the scheme produce a project that seems equal parts refined, buildable, and replicable.”
