Building a rural empire one voice note and emotional support spreadsheet at a time — running purely on caffeine, chaos, and “she’ll be right” energy 🌿
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We finally saw some good weather last week after crazy wind and rain, and what a glorious day it was. The time for docking sheep has arrived. Stay tuned for more. 🌿

Kia Ora 👋🏻
If your new round here welcome to the shit show 🤣

Stick around if seeing content that’s messy, frazzled, full of normal life, kids, running a home, business and farm 😅 is your jam, cause that’s me!

Here reporting the zero bullshit, 100% messy, chaos and fucks ups. There’s still some beauty along the way and of course I love sharing that too

For those of you already here, I see you and thanks for sticking round

From paddocks to packing beef, there’s never a dull moment around here 🤠🥩

Country music cranking, packing our own prime regen-farmed beef in our on-farm butchery, ready for the farm shop. Pretty cool getting to be involved in so many different parts of the operation!

One minute you’re out shifting stock, the next you’re buried in paperwork, and then somehow it’s 10pm and you’re still in the butchery packing meat 😂

Kids tucked up in bed, hubby holding down the fort at home and me just jamming away to country music getting the job done 🤠

Definitely a bit of juggling involved, but I do love the variety of what I get to do. No two days are ever the same!

Mangaroa Farms recently featured in Issue 11 of @ontheland_mag in an eight-page spread about the farm and the question it keeps asking: what does the land want to be?

The article covers the 1,200 acre project holding a market garden and orchard, a farm shop, a sheep and beef operation, local events, and 700 acres of pine in transition back to native forest.

On The Land looks at the people on the ground at @mangaroafarms, from the farmers who are restoring soil through adaptive grazing, to the team simultaneously opening an on-site butchery to serve the local community - to the market gardeners to the shop keepers, and the storytellers & events team - who can all trace their relationship with the project back to the soil.

For Mangaroa Farms, the measure of success is simple: if the Mangaroa river is healthy, the team knows they are doing a good job.

Issue 12 features:
- Tara Benedict's @wildwood_farm regenerative pick-your-own flower farm in Taupō on the cover,
- @kiwihomesteaders - a Bay of Plenty couple teaching traditional craft alongside te ao Māori
- Growing and cooking perennial food forest vegetables with @permadynamics
- Forage bush kai with @sam_the_trap_man (an extract from his new book)
- Processing roosters with @gillian.swinton
- Growing brambles with @thefoodfarmnz
- Crafting a hunting bow with @threycameronarchery
- Making liquid feed with @edible.backyard

From December @ontheland_mag becomes a quarterly seasonal journal.

Yesterday I got off the farm and headed up to Auckland for the Girls in Business conference — and it was SO worth it.

There were so many incredible women in one room, all with completely different stories, businesses and versions of success.

But probably the biggest thing I walked away with was actually one of the simplest:

You don’t have to be good to start. You need to start to be good.

And I think that one hit home.

Because it’s so easy to look at people who are already doing amazing things and forget that there was a time when they had absolutely no idea what they were doing either.

They just started.

They tried things. Got things wrong. Changed direction. Learnt. Grew. And kept going.

I think sometimes we spend so much time waiting until we know enough, have enough time, feel confident enough, or have everything perfectly figured out before we take the first step.

When really, most of the figuring out happens after you start.

Whether it’s business, farming, motherhood, a new idea, or something you’ve quietly wanted to do for years — you’re probably never going to feel 100% ready.

Start anyway.

You can get good along the way. 🤍

And maybe that’s the reminder we all need sometimes: you don’t have to have the whole path mapped out before you take the next step. Just start where you are, with what you have, and trust that the rest will become clearer as you go. by @that_farming_mum

Calving looks a little different this year, break feeding our heifers plus a few MA cows that are due at the same time using @halterhq where instead of manually shedding out cows and calves, we just simply pause their collars once calved. This means the one still to drop are kept on a strict daily intake and the new mamas are able to wander freely on fresh pasture and still stay with their mates. So far it’s working a treat 👌🏻 by @that_farming_mum

Off to mahi in my jammies, cause lambing beats still need doing, calving heifers still need checked and lambs still need feeding. All before Saturday morning rugby with the kids 🏉 by @that_farming_mum

I was lucky enough to be gifted a 2 x pack of these from Snap Heat. You just simply snap the silver looking coin in the pack and it instantly heats up and you have like a mini hot water bottle for your pockets on cold frosty mornings like this morning. Even better the kids love them for the start of their day too. Thanks heaps guys we will be using these regularly by @that_farming_mum
