Looking for volunteers to help me restore this rhododendron garden (photo 3). Volunteer Link in BIO. Or DM me. Get involved in your community!

My view from volunteering @cityofseatac @highlinebotanicalgarden yesterday.

Photo 3 Happy to announce as Seatac's rhododendron expert, I'm the new steward of the young rhododendron garden. Thanks for trusting me to restore this. These plants come from a monsoon climate in the wild and require water, shade, and special care to thrive. They aren't like all the other plants at the garden. Rain water collection should be a future priority here. Saves me a ton a money on my water bill at home with the 2 barrels we bought from the city.

I am going to redesign this garden to have native ferns and drought tolerant plants to make up for the water needs of the rhododendrons and control weeds.

Rhododendron mcgregorii @rhodygarden today Rutherford Conservatory.

Thanks @kimberely.farmer for this Plant ID, cool tour, and showing us the konori superbum (I made that name up) leaf scales under the microscope turns out the flower I posted recently as konori was actually a unique superbum. Also did my 2-part talk there today at the ARS Tacoma chapter's meeting. taken in Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden by @thatrhodylady

Arbutus unedo (strawberry tree)

It's that time of year when I post me favorite street tree in Seattle. Across the street from the 7-11 in Queen Anne nieghborhood. One of the coolest street trees and it's blooming now! Never seen another one. Can we get one in Seatac? So festive this time of year, it blooms at the same time as last years fruit are maturing and turning red. by @thatrhodylady

Happy Fall from @cityofseatac The Rhododenron sanctuary. Got down to 38°F according to my hygrometer in the sanctuary nursery last night. Move in your pots with tender plants and small plants up close up by your house to protect them from frost.

Evergreen Rhododendrons still have fall leaf colors and normal leaf drop to prepare for winter. If you see some leaves turning yellow or red, and it's not the whole plant, then it's just normal leaf drop. Some are really pretty like Rhododendron 'Bali' which the leaves turn orange red to firetruck red with the green evergreen leaves it's very festive for the season. Seatac has the perfect climate to grow them.

Highline Seatac Botanical Garden is looking for volunteers to train to do what I do.
My view working @highlinebotanicalgarden yesterday. Reblooming Rhododendron 'Aglo'

The baby Rhododendron grove looks better than ever, let's keep it that way. We are looking for volunteers! Link in BIO yo! I want to train other volunteers to do what I do. You don't have to know anything about plants or gardens, just a desire to help make your community a better place. Get involved or as young people say, get out here and 'touch grass!' When you signup to volunteer tell them you want to work and train with Madeline Couture in the rhody grove.

Rhododendron 'Rosy Lights' (deciduous azalea)

On the right is R. 'Nancy Evans' which has its first flower buds forming. Finally might get to play with yellow flower's pollen in my crosses next year. The beautiful light green fuchsia blooming in full shade is F. 'Golden Herald'. taken in SeaTac, Washington by @thatrhodylady

What a background for this portrait. @rhodygarden I have been informed this is R. superbum. It doesn't look like one but apparently the scales match under a microscope. I like it better when it was a konori. It's kind of boring compared to the other superbums. taken in Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden by @thatrhodylady
