what do you guys think about my latest build?

I’ve been leaning more towards botanical method aquariums lately, but still like to incorporate plants where they fit.

I got the inspo for this one from my friend @siren_aquaria , who earned 3rd place in September’s aquascaping competition at Aquashella, NJ!

All plants are from my buddies at @aquaplanteria 🫶🏼 check them out at Aquaplanteria.com !

All botanicals used are from @bettabotanicals . If you’re interested in grabbing some of your own, you can use my promo code THEBETTABABES15 at checkout for 15% off your order 🫶🏼

Good times to do a quick water test ⬇️

1. Adding New Fish: More fish means more waste and a higher bioload. Testing helps make sure your tank is handling the increase.

2. Signs of Illness or Stress: Lethargy, gasping, clamped fins, loss of appetite, or unusual behavior can sometimes be caused by water-quality issues, so check your parameters before assuming disease.

3. Cloudy, Green, or Discolored Water: Testing ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and, when relevant, phosphate can help narrow down whether excess nutrients, a bacterial bloom, algae, or another imbalance may be contributing.

4. After Major Changes or Maintenance: Changed your filter/media, did a deep clean, rescaped, or made another major adjustment? Testing helps confirm your parameters stayed stable.

5. Cycling a New Aquarium: Regular testing lets you track ammonia and nitrite and determine when the tank is actually ready for livestock.

6. After a Fish Dies: Especially if the cause is unknown. Testing can help determine whether water quality contributed and whether the remaining livestock may be at risk.

7. After a Power Outage or Equipment Failure: A stopped filter, heater malfunction, or other equipment issue can affect water quality and biological filtration.

8. After Overfeeding or Something Unexpected Enters the Tank: Excess food, a dead organism, contamination, or anything decomposing can cause ammonia or other parameters to shift.

9. As Part of Routine Maintenance: Even when everything looks perfectly fine, occasional testing gives you a baseline for your aquarium and can catch changes before they become visible problems.
