Are you ready to GO, GROW, GLOW? ✨

Join us at the Motel Theatre in @werklundcentre from October 8-12, 2025 aka the LAST STOP of the Calgary leg of this tour.

Shorter, sharper and still unapologetically fat, The F Word returns after the 2023 world premiere! Fairytales, lectures, dance, and song are infused with wild whimsy as creator-performers Keshia Cheesman and Bianca Miranda explore friendship as two fat women on a journey to self-acceptance and fat liberation. They confront fatphobia, diet culture, and the intersection of fatness with race in this playfully political pop-art piece.

Come hungry for a new perspective and leave fuller than you came! 😋

TWO shows left - tonight at 7pm and tomorrow at 1:30pm!

For weeks now, I’ve been trying to find the words to even come close to the overwhelming GRATITUDE I have. For the honour and privilege to be able to tell this story. For the generosity, artistry, and the expertise of the cast & creative team. For the vulnerability of audience members who have reached out to share their thoughts and experiences. For showing up for me in huge ways. 💙 Maraming salamat. ❤️Thank you. 💛

This play, on paper, was 3 years in the making. But I know that this has been brewing and stewing in me for awhile. Here’s a SMALL sneak peek in the way of photos of what the process was like, including some of the people that are absolutely crucial to this show. Words on the page are one thing but a group of artists coming together for a production? Theatre magic to me. ✨

More to come, maybe some love letters to these wonderful people or something. 💌

Back in 2024, Kisapmata received a world premiere, co-produced by Chromatic Theatre and Lunchbox Theatre. Now, it’s been published! Like, it’s its own book and you can read the script with the stage directions, the foreword that makes me cry everytime I read it by Gina and Kodie, the playwrights’ notes that took me monthsssss to write because words are hard and I have so much to say and also nothing at all, and the acknowledgements because this would be nothing without people who helped me, believed in me, encouraged me along the way. SO. MANY. PEOPLE. 💙

Anyway, we’re throwing a little party to celebrate that - thanks Chromatic + Downstage! 🥳

~ Food from @amihan.grill.bakeshop - thank you so much for supporting me throughout the years!
~ Experience the scent library from Stop & Smell @stopandsmell_yyc - my dear friend helped me create a “Kisapmata” scent, like how freakin’ cool is that?!
~ Other fun stations I’m still cooking up 👩🏻‍🍳

6:30pm ~ Doors
7:30pm ~ Reading of a short excerpt by me (maybe this is also a sneak peek to the writing process because this is definitely how I wrote it…by playing both characters and acting them out)

Also! You can grab a copy at a discounted price… and you won’t have to pay that $9 shipping 🤑

🗣️ We are thrilled to announce that Bianca is now Downstage’s Artistic Producer.

Bianca has been a deeply integral part of the Downstage team since she joined us as Associate Producer in autumn of 2021. Since then, they have been a core community connector, trusted artistic plumb line, and someone who leads by example. Bianca is the real deal! In 2024, Bianca moved into the role of Producer, and now she’s taking on co-leadership of Downstage as our Artistic Producer!

Bianca’s keen knowledge of the local arts community, attention to detail, and generous authenticity make them the ideal co-leader of our small and mighty company.

In 2023, Downstage produced the world premiere of The F Word, which Bianca co-wrote and co-starred in with Keshia Cheesman. We also supported the 2025 independent touring production of The F Word, which was shared across Alberta. Bianca balanced their roles as writer, performer and producer with such grace.

💙 Bianca is filled with passion for this community, razor-sharp creative impulses, and a true sense of dedication. We’re so excited to see all that she brings to this new role and to continue building the future of Downstage together!

got my heart broken too many times, now it’s failing 🫪

…………… lol i need to be able to laugh about all this, ya know?

this is how i celebrated my 33rd birthday and thanks to my mom, my bro, and my friends, the 8 days there were never short of love, support, festive fun, and TOYS! 💙

still very much on the mend and getting used to a new reality but i’m doing ok! i’ll be 🆗! 👌👍

not pictured tho is the care team i had throughout that time - found myself in the presence of the most attentive, non-judgemental, patient, funny, kind, supportive nurses, health care aides, doctors, and other support staff. i think about all of them everyday and miss them all so much. like what do you mean i couldn’t gather them all again to say bye & thanks and tell them my fave thing about each of them??? 😅🥲 by @thebiancanator

PANEL RSVP NOW OPEN ✨

Join us for A Stage Across Time: Writing for the Ephemeral, a conversation with Filipino playwrights and theatre artists on memory, performance, and the long game of cultural work.

What does the stage allow us to remember differently than other forms of storytelling?

This panel brings together Filipino playwrights and theatre artists to reflect on the slow, often unseen work of building community through performance. From the intimacy of the stage to the reach of books, film, television, and recorded media, theatre offers a uniquely ephemeral form — one rooted in presence, risk, gathering, and the fleeting charge of a live audience.

Together, panelists will discuss the challenges and possibilities of writing Filipino diasporic stories for the stage, the themes shaping their work, and the questions that continue to surface across generations: memory, migration, language, family, resistance, care, and survival.

Centred on intergenerational resistance and the long game of cultural work, this conversation considers theatre as both a record and rehearsal: a space where Filipino communities can return to the past, confront the present, and imagine futures still in the making.

Featuring playwrights Kamila Sediego, Marie Beath Badian, and Bianca Miranda, facilitated by Davey Calderon.

📅 10:30 AM–12:00 PM
📍 Museum of Vancouver
🎟️ RSVP required through museumofvancouver.ca

Reserve your spot and join us for this powerful conversation on theatre, memory, and Filipino diasporic storytelling. 🇵🇭📚✨ by @thebiancanator

It has always been a DREAM to tour this show. ✨ After our world premiere in 2023, all we wanted to do was to keep sharing this beyond that. Fast forward to this 2025/2026 season and after a Calgary leg of this tour, we are headed to you, Edmonton!

It feels more relevant than ever to share this story. The obsession with thinness is more insidious than ever, with the rise of Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications for rapid weight loss.

Join us for an antidote to shrinking yourself!
Little Keshia and Bianca would have really needed this one.

We know what you’re thinking,
BIANCA! 📢 KESHIA! 📢
Where the heckerssss have you been?!

So, we did the YYC leg of this tour - YMCA Seton & Rocky Ridge, then to Motel Theatre, Werklund Centre. So grateful to everyone who made it and cheered us on and to our incredible team who made this all possible 🥰

Then, we…went on vacation. 🤭🫦🌊 We had the time of our lives! It was exactly what our bodies and souls needed.
Swipe to see some never before seen professional photos taken by photographers around the ship. This became one of our favourite things to do (knowing full well we would never be able to afford the hundreds of photos we took during the trip). What can we say, we just love a photo op 😮‍💨😏
(Yes, they edited and smoothed us out without telling us they were gonna do that.)

And now, here we are! And…WHAT IS TIME?! Time has flown by! Expanse Festival @azimuth_theatre is coming up so soon so catch us in YEG - March 20, 21, 25, 26. Tickets are now LIVE!
