The THS system was built to help you assess what’s actually missing in your handstand, train that exact thing with purpose and intention, and know when to reassess and adjust so that your work is consistently moving your handstand forwards.

It may be a HANDstand, but your legs still have responsibilities 😜

Actively engaging and controlling your legs helps develop proprioception, your body’s ability to sense its position and movement in space.

When your legs move without intention, your weight distribution changes, & your hands have to make more adjustments to compensate.

(Or, if you’re still learning to master your hand micro-adjustments, your other joints will jump in to compensate)

The more aware you are of what your legs are doing, the better you can organize your body, maintain your shape, and make intentional balance corrections.

This drill helps build that connection between leg engagement, body awareness, and balance, so your entire body works together.

What if getting BETTER at handstands means teaching your body to stop doing what it’s already good at? 🥺

Technically, we CAN use all of our joints to stabilize & create balance when upside down.

But the higher off the ground the joint, the more chaotic the balance strategy becomes.

For greater stability, aim to balance through your hands and wrists rather than relying on larger joint movements.

Bigger corrections are normal when learning, but developing a wrist-dominant strategy is essential for long-term control and progression to advanced skills. by @thehandstand.school

Your skeleton is the most underrated tool in your handstand training 😯

You can build all the strength in the world, but how efficiently you use that strength matters just as much.

When your wrists, shoulders, hips, and ankles are stacked in a straight, vertical line, your body can support its weight more efficiently.

That means less unnecessary muscular effort, less energy expenditure, and more time spent balancing on your hands.

The better your alignment, the less energy you need to stay upside down. by @thehandstand.school

One of the biggest handstand mistakes is correcting what you “SEE” without understanding what’s causing it.

Your shoulder angle closes, so you try to open it.

Your back arches, so you squeeze your abs harder.

Your hips pike, so you fight like a seesaw to stack them over your shoulders.

And then you spend the next 6 months making the same corrections over and over 😭

Here’s what you’re overlooking.

Your shoulders and hips are the symptoms. The root cause is how you’re distributing pressure through your hands.

When you’re excessively loading your fingers, that balance strategy can show up as closed shoulders and a banana back.

When you’re sitting too far towards the heels of your hands, you can end up overopening your shoulders + piking at the hips.

These are compensations your body uses to keep you balanced.

And if you’re only correcting what your handstand LOOKS like, you’re ignoring the mechanics that keep creating those positions.

The part of your body that’s out of alignment is the not part responsible for putting you there😉 by @thehandstand.school

➡️ temporarily ⬅️

Raise your hand if you’ve experienced this 🫠

Your handstand will feel less stable when you stop using the compensations that used to hold it together.

That doesn’t mean your handstand is getting worse.

It means your brain is losing an old strategy & building a more efficient one.

Better technique often feels worse for a while. Keep going! by @thehandstand.school

Cartwheels deserve better PR.

Handstand training is just as much about moving as it is about staying still.

Cartwheels, whether basic or more advanced, are ALSO a great way to practice the mechanics of one-arm handstands.

You enter sideways, shift from two hands to one, and either hold the handstand or pass through it.

They help you map out that weight shift without the pressure of having to hold it.

This video shows a more advanced version, but regular two-handed cartwheels are the best place to start!

When was the last time YOU did a cartwheel?😉 by @thehandstand.school
