I’ve lived here my whole life - the things that were buried here slowly came to the surface.

The sticks and bricks never seem to change. I’d be more careful if I were awake.

Scratched into the never-seen sides, made up titles and numbers.

Reckless adventure down the hill.

Into the swamp. Through the bracken. A mighty stick will lead the way.

Built under the mighty & fallen - will stand for days.

Imagining fire and friends.
It’s all we really need.

Artist Statement
MACRO/micro refers to my process of creating sculpture. I start with wood models. While assembling them, I sit down next to them, putting myself on “their level.” At this moment, they become a “study.”

In the process of that study, I visualize them, in my mind, being large public artworks that fit inside a building, could be outside in a park, or I even imagine them as architecture. Working like this, I become entranced, in a dream state, and I find myself seeing a spiral as a galaxy or a person as a grain of sand.

My goal is, for the full effect of these artworks, to invite the viewer to also put themselves into this same hypnotic trance and experience the transition and transformation of the artworks from micro to MACRO and back. taken in Helper, Utah by @thehelpermini

Perro Y Arena brought their hand-built ceramic world to the Mega Helper Mini show, with coyotes, creatures, and portraits moving between the two scales of the exhibition. Each piece is handmade and handpainted, carrying the character and storytelling that runs throughout their work.

A special collaboration for the Mega Helper Mini show brought Kevin Perry’s Helper Sublime photography exhibition with Modern West into the gallery, translating the online exhibition into both MEGA and MINI form.

A special part of the Mega Helper Mini show was the opportunity to honor the work and legacy of the artist Ella, Lucille Ball’s hairdresser and friend, through previously unseen photographs documenting hairstyle tests they created together.

While David Richey Johnson is currently exhibiting in the Helper Mini Gallery, his presence expanded during the Mega Helper Mini show with a larger-scale painting and a collection of painted pennies created for the exhibition.

It felt only right to include David Dornan in the Mega Helper Mini Show, an exhibition taking place within the creative hub he and his wife, Marilou, have shaped in Helper. His participation offers a glimpse at future collaborations with the Helper Mini.

For the exhibition, David paired the large-scale Station III with four small oil paintings created for the MINI.
