After a very successful sell out show during New Zealand Fashion Week ..... we have decided to tour COLLAR.

The Iconic Arts Centre GYM will house the exhibition of bespoke collars by 60 select makers’ hands from across Aotearoa.

This collective exhibition brings together a group of invited makers, each responding to the collar as both object and adornment. Personally designed and made by each maker, every piece reflects an individual practice while contributing to a shared narrative that celebrates craftsmanship, process, and the enduring value of making by hand.

Suspended together as a single installation, the collars become a portrait of contemporary making in Aotearoa revealing the richness of material exploration, technical skill, and creative expression across disciplines.

With support from Christchurch City Council, for one afternoon only; Saturday 17th October 2-5pm. Nested comfortably during the Spring Fashion Festival. @nzfashionwk

Mānawatia a Matariki - a time to pause, reflect, remember, and reconnect.

This year we asked Pepi-Joy Gilgen to showcase her work at The Keep - Ngaa Purapura Tuawhiti o Rongo.

Pepi‑Joy Gilgen @hardkoa_harikoa (Waikato, Ngāti Porou, Kāi Tahu) is a Waikato‑based textile artist whose work is shaped by the way her children see the world. She explores whakapapa, puuraakau, and the responsibilities of motherhood through tactile forms that connect story, environment, and belonging.

Kuumara holds an essential place in the care and sustenance within Maaori society, especially as a primary food source throughout the year. Within the Matariki cluster, Tupuaanuku is the star associated with all food grown in the soil. During the hautapu ceremony, kuumara is offered to Tupuaanuku in gratitude and to invite abundance in the year ahead. This piece celebrates the humble kuumara, for as the whakataukii reminds us, kaaore te kuumara e koorero moo toona ake reka.

For purchase inquiries, please get in touch with us via the keep instagram or email at thekeep504k@gmail.com

The Keep will be closed on friday for Matariki but the instillation will be in the window to view anytime.. daylight and starlight
