New series guys! Can’t wait to show you guys my love for Australian grind - a scene that isn’t talked about enough imo!!

Big thanks to @maurismind for providing me with the idea for this series!! by @thenoisearchives

Undying Lust for Cadaverous Molestation (UxLxCxM) are a goregrind/pornogrind band from Ahorn, Germany, formed in late 2007 by Seb, Toni and Chris. The band took their name from the Regurgitate song “Undying Lust for Cadaverous Molestation”, from the Swedish goregrind band’s 2006 album Sickening Bliss. From the beginning, they described themselves as a “groovy goregrind” band, leaning heavily into filthy grooves, guttural vocals and deliberately ridiculous humour.

Their early catalogue began with the Like a Fart in Your Face demo, followed by the self-titled UxLxCxM in 2012. They later appeared on releases including Spice Gore, a dirty pornogrind tribute to the Spice Girls, Born in Gore – Tribute to Disgorged Foetus, and splits with Pulmonary Fibrosis, Plasma, Gonorrhea Pussy and The Creatures from the Tomb.

The lineup changed over the years, with bassist Toni leaving in 2013 and Falk taking his place, before drummer Chris left in 2015 and Daniel joined behind the kit. Marc Horntasch took over bass and vocals in 2017, with Seb remaining on guitars and vocals.

One particularly cool part of their history is their appearance at Obscene Extreme 2015, where they contributed “Dippy Dingo” to the festival compilation. Their live material also appears on The Brothers of Gore, with three tracks recorded at Eastfrisian Gore Fest 7. UxLxCxM aren’t necessarily the most technically extreme goregrind band, but their groovy, filthy and stupidly catchy approach gives them a distinct place in the German goregrind and extreme metal scene.

Cock and Ball Torture (often shortened to CBT) are a goregrind/pornogrind band from Altenmarkt an der Alz, Germany, formed in 1997 by three former members of Carnal Tomb. They became one of the best-known names associated with the pornogrind side of goregrind, built around slow-to-mid-paced grooves, tupa tupa drums, pitch-shifted + pig snort vocals and deliberately grotesque humour.

Their early catalogue is packed with now-classic underground splits, including releases with Squash Bowels, Libido Airbag, Grossmember, Disgorge Mex, Last Days of Humanity, and a four-way split with Filth, Downthroat and Negligent Collateral Collapse. Their main albums were Opus(sy) VI (2000), Sadochismo (2002) and Egoleech (2004), with Egoleech notably moving further towards brutal death metal and dropping some of the earlier pitch-shifted vocal approach.

What makes CBT worth including on the Noise Archives is that while they’re far from an obscure band within goregrind, they’re also a really important part of understanding how the genre developed. Alongside Gut, they helped establish the groove-heavy, pornographic strain of goregrind that would become known as pornogrind, while their later material demonstrates how that sound could move towards brutal death metal.

The original trio of Timo Pahlke, Sascha Pahlke and Tobias Augustin are still listed as the band’s current members, making CBT an unusually long-running project considering their roots in the late-’90s underground. They even took their filthy German goregrind overseas, including an appearance at Ohio Deathfest.

Garbage Disposal were a brutal death metal band from Varnsdorf, Czech Republic, formed in 1993 and active until 1999. Emerging from the legendary North Bohemian scene alongside Fleshless, Lykathea Aflame and Genetic Threat, they became one of Czechia’s earliest pioneers of technical brutal death metal.

Their cult discography includes the Mind Detonator demo (1994), the Absolute Combustion Transformed the Fear EP (1996), the full-length Union Carbide (1997), and the archival compilation ReUnion Carbide (2003), which preserved the band’s complete recorded output.

Musically, Garbage Disposal blended the precision of Suffocation with the mechanical brutality of Sepsism and the technical edge of Lykathea Aflame. Their riffs were dense and highly intricate, while Tomáš Corn’s drumming pushed the band far beyond the typical deathgrind sound of the era.

A particularly sad chapter came in 2013 with the death of guitarist Karel Burzynski from pancreatic cancer. Although the band had long since split, his passing was deeply felt across the Czech extreme metal community, where Garbage Disposal remain recognised as one of the country’s most influential underground brutal death metal acts.

Suffering Mind are a grindcore band from Lublin, Poland, formed in 2007, and one of the defining names in modern Polish grindcore. The band originally featured female vocalist Ula, whose ferocious vocals became a hallmark of their early releases, including At War with Mankind, the self-titled LP, and Death to False Grind.
Their discography is packed with underground essentials, from At War with Mankind (2009) and Suffering Mind (2010) to Waste Farm (2014), Lifeless (2022), and countless splits with Agathocles, Lifes, Nak’ay, Detroit, Fiend, and Whoresnation. Their raw, politically charged grind has made them one of Poland’s most respected extreme bands.

Since 2014, vocal duties have been handled by Ben Southern, a familiar name from the Northern UK grind scene. After years of touring and sharing stages with Suffering Mind through bands like Magpyes and Introrectalgestation (with Chris Reece of Horsebastard), Ben was invited to join the band, making his recording debut on Waste Farm. He also fronts Votiv, a UK d-beat/crust band featuring members of Deviated Instinct, The Afternoon Gentlemen, and Suffering Mind.

Infected Society are a grindcore band from Amiens, France, formed in 2010 by musicians who had already spent over a decade playing in bands such as Yyrkoon, Benighted, Decline of Humanity, Drowning and Burgul Torkhaïn. Built around guitarist/drummer Fabien “Fack” Desgardins, the band combines the raw aggression of Scum-era Napalm Death with fastcore, hardcore and thrash influences, giving their grind a surprisingly catchy, old-school feel.

Their discography begins with the 10 Minutes demo (2011), later remastered as the Get Infected EP (2012), before a strong run of underground splits including Snuff Fetish Infection, Miserable Fucking Society, and Monsters!. Rather than chasing technical excess, Infected Society focus on tight songwriting, relentless blast beats and memorable riffs, even throwing in covers of Napalm Death (“Necessary Evil”) and Pantera (“Sandblasted Skin”) on Get Infected.
Still active today on Kaotoxin Records, Infected Society have remained a respected name in the European grind underground, proving that classic, riff-driven grindcore can still sound fresh without losing its raw intensity.

Funeral Inception are a brutal death metal / technical death metal band from East Jakarta, Indonesia, originally formed in 1996 as Bloody Gore before adopting the Funeral Inception name in 2002. They’re one of the longest-running names in Indonesian extreme metal, blending Suffocation-style brutality with the precision of early technical death metal.

Their defining releases include Anthems of Disenchantment (2002), the cult favourite H.A.T.E. (2008), and the comeback EP The Unbroken Legion (2016). Across those records, the band evolved from straight brutal death metal into a tighter, more technical sound without losing the crushing heaviness that made them stand out.

Live, Funeral Inception became a cornerstone of the Indonesian scene, sharing stages with both regional and international death metal acts while regularly appearing at major festivals including Hammersonic. Their longevity has made them one of the country’s most respected underground bands.

Rather than chasing extreme technicality, Funeral Inception focus on massive riffs, mechanical blast beats and relentless songwriting. Fans of Suffocation, Sepsism and early Defeated Sanity will feel right at home with their sound, especially on H.A.T.E., which remains one of the strongest technical death metal releases to come out of Indonesia.

Alienation Mental were a technical/experimental brutal death metal and grindcore band from Prague, Czechia, formed in 1997 and active until 2011. This band was comprised of members within the Czech scene like Bowelfuck and Ahumado Granujo. Although their style shifted briefly into groove and nu-metal during the mid-2000s, they finished their career by returning to the blistering technical pinging grindcore sound that made them an underground favourite.

Their discography is one of the strongest in Czech grind, beginning with their 1998 demo before a legendary run of splits with Malignant Tumour, Genetic Threat, and Inhumate. Full-lengths including Ball Spouter (2002), Psychopathicolorspectrum (2004), and Human Error: Ways to Selfdestruction (2008) showcased an increasingly technical blend of brutal death metal, grindcore, and experimental songwriting.

Onstage, Alienation Mental toured extensively across Europe, sharing stages with bands such as Cerebral Turbulency and Inhumate, while also appearing at Obscene Extreme Festival, where they became one of the Czech scene’s best-known homegrown acts.

Rather than pure chaos, Alienation Mental built their identity around razor-sharp riffing, complex drumming, and constant stylistic shifts. Today, the drummer Jarda is currently in Jig Ai. After 2011, the members of Alienation Mental, formed another bdm/grind band called Perfecitzen, arising this project from the ashes. Their most well known material being Ball Spouter - remains a cult classic for fans of technical brutal death metal and technical grindcore, where personally, this albums specifically sits between Discordance Axis, Sulfuric Cautery (minus the gore), and Cryptopsy without ever sounding like a copy.

Buto were a short-lived and very lowkey grindcore/goregrind side-project from Singapore, formed in February 2008 by members of infamous Singaporean grindcore band Wormrot and a Singaporean brutal death metal band called Asilent. The lineup featured Arif, Rasyid and Fitri of Wormrot, Fiaz and Emile handling pitch shifted vocals of Asilent, making Buto an interesting snapshot of Singapore’s underground extreme-metal scene just before Wormrot’s international breakthrough.

Their only known release was the Bastardphobic EP, issued in 2008, and the project was already finished by the middle of that year as the members returned their attention to their main bands. The band had only made 50 copies of this EP making it incredibly hard to find today. Despite lasting only a few months, Buto’s connection to two important Singaporean acts makes this EP quite significant in the early days of the scene, especially for Wormrot’s lore and history when such side projects like Marijannah and Code Error get mentioned.

Musically, Buto sat between abrasive grindcore and goregrind similar to Dahmer and Hemdale with the kind of raw, compact extremity you’d expect from a project made up of musicians already involved in Singapore’s underground. It is just one EP, but it is definitely worth digging into if you’re exploring the roots of the Singaporean grind scene.

Anti Social Behaviour Order were a grindcore band from Nottingham, UK, formed in 2014 and active until 2016. The band was a two-piece consisting of Danial Malik on vocals and guitar and Jacob Peach on drums, with Malik later becoming particularly notable for his work behind the kit in Avoid and Charred Atlas.

Their short but surprisingly substantial discography began with the 2014 Demo, followed by the self-titled 2015 demo, the Brainshit / Anti Social Behaviour Order split tape in 2016, and the Discography Tape later that year. The Brainshit split was released through Mind Ripper Collective in a tiny edition of just 20 cassettes, while the Discography Tape collected material from all three recording periods.

Musically, they were straight-up grindcore: extremely short songs, rapid-fire blasting and a raw, compact approach that occasionally crosses into powerviolence territory. The Discography Tape contains 29 tracks in just under 22 minutes, with several songs lasting less than a minute.

Although they only lasted two years, Anti Social Behaviour Order left behind a neat little snapshot of the Nottingham underground before Malik moved further into the scene. His drumming in Avoid (2 piece grind), FilthxCollins (2 piece grindviolence where 70 songs in 20 minutes is possible in one live set) Charred Atlas (members of Narcosis and Horsebastard) is absolutely worth checking out too the latter in particular shows just how ridiculously tight his playing has become.

Crikey, we’ve reached the end of Grind Down Under! Thank you to everyone who followed along, especially those from the scene who checked out the page, shared their stories, and helped along the way. It’s been great meeting people around the scene and discovering more about Australia’s incredible grindcore culture. Season 2 is COMING!!

Internal Rot are a grindcore band from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 2010 and named after the Hemdale song of the same name. Featuring members of Agents of Abhorrence, Super Fun Happy Slide, Die Pigeon Die, Doubled Over, Roskopp and Faceless Burial, they’ve become one of the defining names in modern Australian grindcore through their uncompromising old-school sound and relentless live performances.

Their discography began with the S/T 7” (2011), followed by the full-length Mental Hygiene (2014), splits with Manhunt and Mellow Harsher, and the acclaimed Grieving Birth (2019). While their catalogue isn’t huge, every release has stayed firmly rooted in traditional grindcore, favouring short, explosive songs over technical excess or modern production.

Musically, Internal Rot draw heavily from the classic grind sound of Terrorizer, Repulsion and early Napalm Death. Internal Rot focus on raw, crusty riffing relentless Tim tam scented blast beats, creating a distinctly old-school feel that has made them one of Australia’s most respected contemporary grind bands.

Since forming, they’ve toured extensively throughout Australia and Europe, appearing at festivals including Obscene Extreme and sharing stages with many of the biggest names in international grindcore. Through both their recordings and live shows, Internal Rot have firmly established themselves as one of the leading modern torchbearers of Australian grindcore, carrying the legacy of bands like The Kill, Captain Cleanoff and Warsore into a new generation. This band personally has helped me write stuff for my band Nanjing too, so many thanks to the great intricate riffs!

Doubled Over are a grindcore band from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 2007 by former members of Die Pigeon Die. Built around brothers Jack and Sam Whitcroft, the band takes a noticeably more old-school death metal approach while retaining the speed and aggression of their sound. Doubled Over in true Jack Whitcroft fashion continued the use of low tunings carried over from DPD which is always great to see.

Their discography is concise, consisting of the Doubled Over demo (2009), a split with Roskopp (2011), and a split with Hemdale (2014). Although they have never been particularly prolific, each release has cemented their reputation within the Australian underground for combining filthy production with memorable, old-school riffs.

The lineup has remained remarkably consistent over the years, with Jack and Sam Whitcroft joined by the extremely talented and well renowned of Christoph Winkler, who was previously or in Internal Rot, Roskopp (AU), Contaminated, and several other key Melbourne extreme metal bands. The band was on hiatus between 2011 and 2013 before returning, and they remain active today.

While often overshadowed by Die Pigeon Die, Doubled Over has carved out its own identity by favouring a darker, more traditional death metal sound without losing the intensity of grindcore. It’s a natural progression from the Whitcroft brothers’ earlier work and another strong example of how closely connected Melbourne’s extreme metal scene has remained almost two decades.
