“So how all did you come up with the name Tonic & Phasic Holistic Pelvic Health?”

As EVERYTHING we have created and continue to do with our practice, has purpose and intention, so it was only fitting that our name Tonic & Phasic align with our values.

We both find this approach absolutely critical for the healing process (but also in life 😉). With our practice, we embrace this natural balance of physiology and life to guide you toward your optimal well-being.

Picture it as finding your rhythm—a blend of steady support and dynamic energy, enabling you to move through life with grace and vitality. We are here to nurture that balance within you, helping you live a life harmonized and empowered.

We truly are so grateful to be in this space of healing and can’t wait to share our passion for pelvic health with you.

With love,

a proper introduction into 2024 👋🏻 I am Dr. Allea (pronounced like Allie, the last a is silent 😉), and I have been practicing pelvic health therapy since 2017. My specialty and formal training was in complex pelvic pain syndromes.

Since starting my own practice in 2022, I have truly found my passion in pregnancy/birth prep & postpartum rehabilitation. However, I still enjoy treating pelvic pain.

My goal for my page is to share my knowledge and learn with you. I often find myself learning most about wellness habits, alternative lifestyle practices and how this can influence my treatment approach. I love a well balanced life.

The purpose with my content is to be as genuine and transparent with you. Please feel free to reach out to me or email me (in the bio).

She went 10 years in chronic pelvic pain.

Doctors. Medications. Procedures. Nothing helped.

Then she discovered pelvic floor physical therapy — and has been pain-free (and helping other women achieve the same) ever since.

Today, @thepelvicptdoc joins us to talk about the conversation most of us were never given about our own bodies.

Leakage. Back pain. Painful sex. Heaviness. Constipation. Hip pain. Hormonal shifts. The glute you didn’t know you weren’t firing.

All of it connected. All of it treatable.

Today is for every woman who has been told something is just part of being a woman. For the one dismissing small symptoms because they don’t feel dramatic enough.

New episode of Mighty as a Mother is live now!

What’s one thing about your body you’ve been quietly ignoring? Tell us below. ⬇️ taken in California by @thepelvicptdoc

Your back pain might not be a back problem.

Most of us were never taught what the pelvic floor actually does. Or how many symptoms connect back to it. Or that back pain, hip pain, and sciatic pain can have nothing to do with your spine.

This week, we sit down with @thepelvicptdoc — pelvic floor physical therapist and co-founder of @tonicandphasic — for a conversation that changes the way you think about your body.

The symptoms nobody connects. The muscles most moms are quietly neglecting. And why “common” and “inevitable” are not the same thing.

You do not have to be symptomatic to need this information!

Save this and share with a woman who deserves to feel good in her body.

New episode drops tomorrow. 💕

Save for later!

Movement may be the last thing you want to do on cycle day 1. But gently moving your muscles can help elongate the places where tension wants to hide; reducing pain overall.

Movement also reminds us to breathe, which can help relax the pelvic floor, calm the nervous system, and lengthen surrounding muscles.

Dr. Allea, PT, DPT is showing us gentle, mindful yoga poses:

* cat/cow
* sphinx/cobra
* pigeon pose
* reclining butterfly
* legs up the wall (one at a time)

Take your time, be patient, and only push your body as far as it feels comfortable. <3

👶🏻👶🏼👶🏽👶🏾👶🏿

Enjoy an evening of luxurious prenatal relaxation and connection with your baby and your local community. During this intimate monthly session we will gather together to sip tea, eat delicious treats, discuss a new topic each meeting, practice breath work, and end with a deep relaxation session to fill you with joy and confidence for your upcoming birth and parenting journey. This is important YOU time, to slow down from your busy life and connect deeper to baby before the two of you meet on the outside.

We will start with a short grounding exercise to open the circle, do introductions, and meet our special guest to lead our discussion for the month. To end we will nestle into our cozy pillow nests for some guided breathing and relaxation to leave you feeling lighter and closer to this new life you are growing.

What’s one of the best way to facilitate a deep core contraction? ⬆️⬆️

But why would one need to learn to activate their core?: • improve coordination between their breath and physical movement
• reduce pelvic floor symptoms such as leakage, prolapse, pelvic pain, etc
• a great starting point to movement if physical activity is new to you or you’re getting back into exercise.
• plus a few more

Core bracing/activation is a foundational piece to movement in pregnancy and postpartum. We have found that being in an all 4’s position with a bit of cueing from gravity and our hands works the best.

Tactile cueing is the best way to get a desired movement pattern. We use these techniques to create a movement pattern for you during pregnancy & postpartum. And we will COACH you through those movements so that you understand and can feel what you are doing, for long term consistency.

If you don’t have a physical cue or if you are alone, a mirror or self recording are the some of the best ways to see how you’re moving.

P.S. this is not going to make your DRA worse being an all 4’s position, this movement position reinforces tensile forces throughout the abdomen and a great starting point pregnancy or postpartum.

Just a friendly reminder, we are pelvic floor physical therapists, but we may not be your PFPT. If you are unsure about any movement, or have questions, please consult with trusted pelvic health professionals. If you don’t have one, we’d love to help and send us a message! taken in Costa Mesa, California by @thepelvicptdoc

MOTHERING CLUB EVENT 🌸 FRIDAY JULY 26 10AM

Dr. Allea is hosting a pelvic floor foundations workshop at the mothering club on July 26th, at 10am. This is open to women who are pregnant, postpartum, or want to better understand their bodies in regards to pelvic health.

Our goal for this workshop is to leave you with a better understanding of managing intra-abdominal pressure with functional movement. This means how to engage your core system with exercise and activities that include, carrying your baby, lifting heavy objects (plus more) without exacerbating pelvic floor dysfunction and/or minimizing the excessive strain onto the pelvic floor.

You will be able to apply this at home or in your exercise routine knowing you are not contributing to pelvic floor dysfunction.

You will also leave the workshop having a firm grasp on pelvic floor foundational concepts and if you are a candidate for pelvic floor. We hope to see you there!

Our pelvis plays a MAJOR roll during labor and birth. And did you know the pelvis is also moving while the baby is moving through the birth canal?

In this video we are demonstrating pelvic motion during all 3 stages of labor and birth: early, mid, and late.

1. When you are in the first stage of labor, or pelvic inlet (the top of the pelvis, where the abdominals attach), need to open as much as possible for the baby to descend into the mid pelvis. Opening of the pelvic inlet can be done through hip external rotation (legs out wide) and through abdominal releasing exercises (think deep abdominal breathing).

2. As the baby continues to descend, they are making their way through mid pelvis, this motion involves the pelvis moving in a rotational way. We want to integrate rotational movement to assist with labor progressions (think asymmetrical exercises like a supported lunge).

3. As we are getting ready to push the baby out, our pelvic outlet (where our pelvic floor muscles attach) needs to be able to elongate and this is done through hip internal rotation movements (think knees touching). This helps create as much stretch and length to the pelvic floor and pelvis, opening the bottom of the pelvis for a smoother birth (and postpartum healing 😉)

As ALWAYS, you, your body, and your baby are very intuitive with each other. Move with your body and what you feel is best! We feel knowledge is an empowering piece to this experience, and want you to be equipped with all the tools for what may come your way. taken in Costa Mesa, California by @thepelvicptdoc
