After an exhausting month, we finally put “Mammoth” to rest today. So many incredible moments shared with people I love in the cave. It was certainly an experience that I didn’t expect and I’m not sure if I have really processed it at all.

Profoundly grateful to make art, profoundly proud to be a Kentuckian. taken in Mammoth Cave National Park by @thepickledtenor

Amazing first Carmina Burana with my favorite fellow soloists, maestra Mélisse Brunet and the Lexington Philharmonic. It is bizarre to sing rep professionally that I used to fantasize about as a teenager. Truly blessed 🦢 #carminaburana #tenor #carlorff taken in Singletary Center for the Arts by @thepickledtenor

Even though I have begun a new collegiate teaching journey this year, I am still out there phonating in front of audiences!
Starting off the season in my 25th production (!) with @kyopera, covering Count Almaviva and singing in the ensemble in a wacky ‘80s Day Spa version of “Barber of Seville”
Following that, a project I am super excited to be on - narrating the part of the soldier in Igor Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale” with the @derbycitychamberfest.
Returning to my Lexington church home, First Presbyterian Church, for Bruckner’s transcendent Te deum with a STACKED group of soloists including @fairynne_rainey @hannahsheamezzo and @wmclaythompson
Ending the season on a high with a dream piece, Salome, in a joint production with Kentucky Opera and @louisvilleorchestra.
All season @paigehcrain and I will be touring around the region to present our new program “Becoming A Redwood” (some have said it’s our best program yet).
Stay tuned for more updates as they come, and happy singing to all! by @thepickledtenor

Little is known about the Austro-Bavarian composer and pianist Alfred Schnitzker (1894–1951).

Born in southern Bavaria to a musical family, his mother was a Turkish percussionist and his father an amateur organist at the Lutheran church of St. Gumbertus.

Schnitzker demonstrated an early aptitude for music, composing his first melodies at the piano at the age of eleven. He spent much of his early career as a répétiteur at the local Hochschule für Unglaublich Schnelles Tanzen while teaching piano to the children of minor nobility.

Although Schnitzker considered composition his true vocation, his surviving output is remarkably small. One persistent account claims that a particularly severe lesson with Richard Strauss in 1918 convinced the young composer to conceal nearly all of his manuscripts from the public.

The works that remain reveal an eclectic musical language, blending the martial sonorities associated with the Janissary bands of his mother’s Turkish heritage with the brash wave of late German Romanticism. by @thepickledtenor

As a tenor, we never really have a day off from high notes. Thanks @robert.bosworth.music for the idea! No I haven’t finished the book yet.

Had a very intense experience listening to a dove perched inside a classroom window this morning, reflecting on the pain people inflict on one another. Every day I am trying to find something else to hold inside of me and to love. People and the Earth are all we have. by @thepickledtenor
