Someone asked me recently, “Ah ah, you started a media company?” 😂

The surprise was understandable.
They know me for social impact, so seeing me do something outside of that probably felt like, “Wait, you?”

And honestly, I didn’t take it personally.

It just reminded me how easily we get used to one version of people.

But people evolve.

We change.
We discover new interests.
We take different directions.
We try things we’ve never tried before.

And I think that’s okay.

You don’t have to remain exactly who people first knew you to be.

Sometimes, you simply wake up and say,
“Hmm, I think I want to do this now.”

And that should be okay too.

Also, if you’re struggling to understand how someone can move from one thing into something completely different, please go and look at @oraimongr @oraimoclub

They started with tech accessories.
Now, Crocs. Chopping boards. Wipes. Blenders. Fans. Vacuum cleaners and so many thingsssss. Someone said they might join politics soon.

Life is allowed to have range. 😂

So, in case you didn’t know:

I started a media company.

And I’m enjoying it.

Apparently, it’s time for a proper introduction. 🤝🤝

If you’re new here, hi! I’m Raquel Kasham Daniel.

I’m a builder, an advocate, a writer, a storyteller and a teacher.

I build things. @voluserve
I care deeply about children, young people and the things that affect how we live and grow. @btheclassroom
I write books. @bambiniafrica
I tell stories about people and the work they’re doing. @agoranovamedia
I teach about service, purpose, faith and life.

But beyond all of that, I’m also just a woman trying to live a meaningful life.

So you’ll find conversations about work, purpose, faith, family, motherhood, building businesses, serving people, figuring things out and sometimes just random thoughts that cross my mind. 😂

If you’ve been here for a while, thank you for staying.

And if you just found me.

Welcome. ❤️

I’m glad you’re here.

Someone asked me why a volunteer should bother getting verified on @voluserve

Simple.

Because volunteering should do more than fill your weekend.
It should help you grow.

As a verified volunteer, you’re not just applying for opportunities.
You’re building a profile that shows where you’ve volunteered, the trainings you’ve completed, and the badges you’ve earned along the way.

You’ll also get access to monthly volunteer trainings designed to help you volunteer better, build real experience, and stand out.

And because organizations on Voluserve are verified before they can post opportunities, you have more confidence in who you’re volunteering with.
No random flyers.

No guessing.

No wondering if the organization actually exists.

Just real opportunities from organizations that have gone through our verification process.

The best part?
Signing up is completely FREE.

So if I were you, I’d create my account now.
Get verified when you’re ready.

The opportunities will come.

I’ve been thinking about how sometimes, the people who have known us the longest are still holding on to a picture of who we used to be, even as we are becoming someone new.

And I find myself wondering why.

Is it because people become so familiar with a particular version of us that it becomes difficult to imagine us beyond it?

Is it because the experiences we’ve shared with them become the lens through which they continue to see us?

Or is it simply that people need time to catch up with the person we are becoming?

Perhaps the people who met us at the beginning of our journey don’t always know what to do with the person we are becoming along the way.

And maybe, sometimes, the people who see our potential first are those who are meeting us for the first time.

Just a Monday morning thought.

One of the things studying the Bible has taught me is that a familiar Bible story can hold details we have read past countless times.

Sometimes, we are so eager to complete a Bible Challenge that we miss the questions the passage invites us to ask.

It is okay to want to read the Bible in 90 days. In fact, I think it is beautiful to have that kind of discipline. But Omo, sometimes, you need to slow down and read that passage again!

Don’t just rush to tick it off your reading plan. Take your time. Look at the people in the story. Pay attention to what they did, what they said, and what the Bible actually tells us. And please, notice what it doesn’t tell us too!

Sometimes, we have heard a particular interpretation of a Bible story for so long that we don’t even realise we have accepted it as Scripture. We read the story with that understanding already in our minds, and we never stop to ask questions.

So, when you have an invitation to look at a Scripture again, please do. Don’t be afraid to revisit a familiar story. Ask questions. Look at the context. Be willing to examine what you have always believed, and allow the Word to teach you.

And please, don’t be afraid to say, “I have read this story many times, but I never noticed that before!”

Omo, there is always something to learn when we take the time to study our Bibles. We never arrive at a point where we know it all.

See you next Sunday.

Shalom.

Sometimes I read things people say about marriage, listen to conversations, and I just find myself grateful. Not because I think we have a perfect marriage or because I am a better person, but because I get to experience a kind of love that makes me understand why I would choose this life with you over and over again.

OOD, thank you for being the KINDEST, most considerate person I know. You have made the last ten years of my life beautiful.

Happy birthday, my love. I love you so much.

10 birthdays and counting. ❤️❤️❤️😘

A little reminder: Share what your friends are doing.

It’s a beautiful day to show up for your friends and the businesses they’re building.

Repost their flyers. Share their posts on your WhatsApp status. Put them on your Instagram stories if you don’t want to disrupt your feed. Talk about their work. Recommend their services.

You never know who is watching. Your next customer might be on your friend’s page, or even on yours!

Sometimes, supporting your friends doesn’t require money. Sometimes, all it takes is a repost, a kind word, or helping someone else discover what they do.

Don’t just clap for your friends in private. Help them get seen.

Go ahead. Who are you reposting today?

I’ve had so many people ask me, “What’s it like building a business with your spouse?”

Every time I get this question, I smile. 😁

Honestly, who better to build with than your spouse, especially when you share the same vision for your family?

You don’t necessarily have to be in the same industry or have the same professional interests. What matters is that you understand each other’s dreams, respect each other’s strengths, and share a common vision for the future you’re building together.

For me, that’s one of the beautiful things about building with my husband.

I’m an idea builder. I imagine things in my head: websites, apps, platforms, and structures. My husband is the one who often brings these ideas to life through his technical skills. Many of the digital products I’ve envisioned over the years have been built by him. Eg @voluserve @thebambiniafrica @agoranovamedia

We complement each other. I don’t have to know how to build everything physically or technically, and he doesn’t have to be the one coming up with every idea. We each bring something valuable to the “table”.

Of course, it’s not always rosy. 🤣

Sometimes, it’s difficult to switch off because a casual conversation can quickly become a business meeting. You have to learn to separate being business partners from being husband and wife, disagree about work without making it personal, and intentionally protect your relationship from the demands of the business.

That’s why there are important conversations to have before going into business together: roles, finances, decision-making, boundaries, expectations, and how you’ll handle disagreements.

But here’s what I always come back to.

You’re already building a family together and working towards a shared future. If you BOTH want to build a business too, why should you automatically rule it out?

I’m not saying it will always be easy but, it will take a lot of intentionality.

Have the difficult conversations. Ask the right questions. Establish boundaries and learn to work together.

So, last week, I put out a call for 10 women who wanted to put their work on the internet through a feature story or an interview.

There was NO catch.

You send me your CV and pictures, I do the work, you review it, and if you like it, I publish it. You pay WHATEVER you want.

Simple!

I got over 40 requests, but only five women sent in their details within the first 24 hours.

And honestly, it’s been such a pleasure reading the bios I’ve received so far. Gosh! Women are doing AMAZING things, and I can’t wait to share some of these stories with you.

To the women who have responded, thank you for trusting me with your stories.

And to the other 35+ women who expressed interest, I’m looking forward to working on your story or interview. Please, don’t overthink it. Send what you have, and let’s take it from there.

Listen, I do really great work, and I’m not even kidding. 🤝

It’s a new week. Let me write your story.

Today’s episode of Bible Lessons with RKD, I am shining the spotlight on a man we don’t talk about enough.

His name is Zelophehad.

We don’t know much about this man, but we know his DAUGHTERS.

But you know what else we forget?

THIS MAN WAS A ROCKSTAR GIRL-DAD. 😂

Five daughters. No sons. And these women showed up boldly to make a case for their inheritance.

Now, the Bible doesn’t tell us how Zelophehad raised his daughters, but I couldn’t help wondering about the man behind their story.

I hope someone finds liberation.

Sometimes, we are so afraid of people thinking we want attention that we end up hiding the very things God wants us to do.

But Jesus said, LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE.

Why? So that people will see your GOOD WORKS and glorify YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN.

The instruction was never to hide. The instruction was to shine. And the reason was never you.

You can show up, do the work, use your gifts, share your ideas and let people see what you are doing without making yourself the centre of it all.

There is a difference between seeking glory for yourself and allowing your good works to point people to God.

LET THEM SEE THE WORK. LET GOD RECEIVE THE GLORY.

The world needs to see what God has placed in you. And who knows?

Someone might just see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

This weekend, I hope you decide to start allowing your light to shine.
