Wildflowers spread across the steppe, calafate bushes bloom yellow, and the famous granite towers stand sharp against skies still crisp with mountain air. It's also one of the best times of year for wildlife. Guanacos give birth in spring, drawing pumas out into the open. Sightings are at their most frequent, and our guides know exactly where to look. Condors ride the thermals overhead, flamingos return to the lakes, and the whole landscape feels newly alive. The days grow noticeably longer week by week, and the trails and viewpoints are blissfully uncrowded.

Spring has arrived in Torres del Paine. Wobbly-legged baby guanacos take their first steps, while the adults quietly get to work as nature’s gardeners. As they graze on plants and fruit, guanacos carry seeds in their digestive systems and scatter them across the park, helping new life take root.

The Atacama Desert does not reveal everything all at once.

Three pumas seen together is almost always a mother and her grown cubs. They stay with her for a year or more before going their own way, which is the only time pumas are social by choice. Three captured in one frame marks a very good day.
