LIVE *** ACTS!
Scott Ewalt, Vivienne Maricevic, Alix Vernet
September 18 - November 15, 2026

Noon -6pm,
Thursday through Saturday

Times Square Space, 1500 Broadway, New York
Enter on West 43rd Street

Three artists form an archive of Times Square’s vibrant sex clubs, which were active from the late 1960s through the mid-1980s. There existed a dense, largely self-regulating ecosystem of s**clubs that operated in the space the city had abandoned. None of the works moralize or mythologize; rather, they are records made by artists who understood the value of what they were looking at before it was gone or who have returned to its traces.

This exhibition opens at a moment when the political gains of the last several decades are being actively reversed, when bodies, desires, and the spaces that accommodate them are once again subject to legislation and erasure. In that context, an archive of Times Square’s sex culture is not a historical exercise but a reminder that these freedoms were always contingent, always contested, and always worth defending

What grew in the clubs was a form of social life: anonymous, cross-class, and largely ungoverned. Crucially, it was where queer life organized itself outside the surveillance of mainstream culture and where art, activism, and sexuality overlapped. The darkened theaters and club backrooms offered freedom from judgment and taboo and, in doing so, created the conditions for a potent subculture. That culture had consequences that are still alive. taken in Times Square by @tifzab

Two years ago at NADA in Miami I met the wonderful Benjamin @newdiscretions who had a photograph in his booth that took my breath away by @vmaricevic . He took out his iPad and showed me photograph after photograph of such iconic beauty that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard the photographer’s name before. Then the cherry, he told me Vivienne spent years photographing Times Square’s Sex clubs. It’s incredible that documentation exists as these were not places where cameras went. I got so excited and told benjamin about @timessquarespace. The nexus of an idea was born.

Then Benjamin suggested we involve the iconic Scott Ewalt so we went to his apartment on the Bowery which is a mind-blowing museum in itself. This admirer of Vivienne who archived an era by rescuing old signage and memorabilia and creating deeply obsessive, thoughtful, and intricate artworks inspired by them completed the exhibition. Or so we thought.

At a @worthlessstudios event @alixalwaysmoves started discussing her latest project which involved archiving of a sex club history into elegant and considered fragmented conceptual works. I got very excited. The works were incredible but separate from the history she hadn’t had full access to yet. They needed to be in the show also.

Opening tonight in Times Square with three superstar artists. It’s been a journey. See you later! taken in Times Sq. by @tifzab

Music to My Intern’s Ears

My first time back in Basel since 2023 - I forgot how wonderful it is. Floating down the Rhine on route to delicious dinners surrounded by friends and family and friends who have become like family. So much excellent art to see! And a fair where everybody actually wants to chat about the art.

@liste_art_fair_basel was fun with so many good pieces. @adrianschachter at @amanita.ny was my highlight. The sunshine helped spread joy as did @basel.social.club organized by @robbie_fitzpatrick_ , which is the coolest project ever. I saw Robin S perform and chose between drinking “blood”, “sweat” or “tears”at Nick Doyle’s bar @nickdoyle333 Bobby Jesus also showed me the most intricate carvings into a pencil. @therealbobbyjesus

Other highlights include @julian.charriere’s Warehouse Artefacts / if you’re in Basel go on Saturday night for what will truly be a transcedental experience. Also @cao_fei’s show was historic and vivid with a ball pond to top it off. Trevor Paglen @trevorpaglen curated the 0 10 section of art Basel and through a mix of contemporary and historic references, he created a thoughtful and detailed story of digital and algorithmic art.

@chloewise_ is a legend with a new exhibition and film @kbhgeiger that is out of this world (pun intended). It is an absolute must-see for everybody with language and imagery that is so wonderfully witty and of our era and just so chloe! It truly was an ideal pebble in a perfect pond. Who wouldn’t want that?

All in all - I am leaving feeling warm, satisfied, excited, and inspired. Not bad for a few days. #tiflovesart taken in Basel, Switzerland by @tifzab

Step into our office! Incredibly proud to share images from HARDCORE COTTAGECORE by Tom Bull (@tombull.a), the very first show from our “Artist in Residence” program.

This exhibit is the culmination of Tom’s month-long residency at Maison Monna (@monna.maison) earlier this year, and organized in collaboration with Max Radford Gallery (@maxradfordgallery) in London.

We are now open by appointment at Times Square Space (@timessquarespace) until June 6th, so please get in touch with any of us directly or by email at gallery@maxradfordgallery.com to schedule a time to visit and/or for any additional information.

Last but not least: applications for next year’s cohort are now open! If you’re an artist and are curious about our program, please get in touch via residency@monna.maison or through our website.

Putting together independent art shows is both rewarding and challenging. Months of planning and fundraising and hours of installing and hosting, all in the hope to bring a vision to life, to connect an audience with art and the message behind.
We counted over 2500 visitors in the short three week duration of the show, hosted dinners and talks, deeply moving breathwork sessions and performances.
It’s beautiful to see these projects come to life and witness the support of so many.
As public funding for these kinds of initiatives continues to shrink, the need to support each other, collaborate, and stick together becomes ever more vital

Untitled, 2018, by Isa Genzken (b.1948, Germany), in ‘I Sought My Soul’ curated by @tygertyger.art encapsulates her wide-ranging artistic practice. Genzken’s works disrupt traditional boundaries and reflect the fractured, energetic pulse of urban life. Inspired by the rigidity of modernist architecture and the unpredictability of the city, she translates these influences into forms that explore the intersections between art, design, media, and the lived experience.

Genzken’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in the concept of fluidity, both in her creative process and the thematic content of her work. She has articulated this inclination, stating, “In my life, I’ve always been concerned with fluidity and opposed to rigidity. That’s been automatic—I’ve never had to think about it.” This commitment to fluidity is evident in her seamless transitions across various mediums and styles.

By blending elements of Minimalism, Constructivism, and punk aesthetics, she creates pieces that are both provocative and deeply resonant, while conveying a general openness and de-hierarchization of form and framework. Mounted on an aluminium panel, the painterly elements of the work escape the bounds of solid shapes. Her work does not allow art historical categorization and this boundless defiance allows for a new unity. Seemingly casually stuck on the panel are two stickers of lucky four leaf clover that offset the powerful form of the piece. Her work often challenges perception and spatial awareness, encouraging viewers to reconsider how they move through and relate to space. #IsaGenzken #tiflovesart taken in St. Elisabeth (Berlin-Mitte) by @tifzab

See you in Berlin tomorrow! @st.elisabeth.villaelisabeth

When Anneli @botzilla and I decided to work together, neither of us realized what a dangerous duo we were and what we had ignited. A year later we’ve found ourselves with a newly formed curatorial organization, @tygertyger.art, and an exhibition that we couldn’t be prouder and more excited to open tomorrow!

18 of the best artists came together to make this show ‘I Sought My Soul’ possible and it’s been an honor to work with all of them. The exhibition explores themes around finding the soul in the collective, and a huge collective effort feels like the perfect expression of that idea .

Optimism and mutability also come into play and have definitely been the mantra that has been driving us forward in our planning - And we did it!

Thank you to everybody who supported us in this project! We can’t wait to see you at the opening!

I am so excited to announce “I Sought My Soul” Opening April 15 in Berlin! @botzilla1 & I have been working hard to bring you our debut exhibition for @tygertyger.art our new venture! We will have events during gallery weekend also!!

See you in Berlin !

Taking its title from William Blake, I Sought My Soul, considers a contemporary romanticism, a new sublime in the world. Due to impending threats from war, climate change, disease, new technologies, identity politics, and unregulated markets, the 2020s thus far has been an era of political, economic, and social turmoil. In a world increasingly shaped by new technologies and Artificial Intelligence, the question of identity and the self is fundamentally being redefined. This resulted into a longing for otherworldly and collective guidance. Mysticism, spirituality, new religions, and the feminine divine have become societally accepted means of answering increasingly prescient existential questions.

I Sought My Soul explores the phenomenon of new autonomy within a utopian vision of unity. Drawing inspiration from a Blakean quote, the exhibition at the church St. Elisabeth centres on commonality and mutual assistance, which lie at the heart of soulful creation. With an optimistic view towards the future the exhibition aims to highlight a sense of fluidity amongst humanity, technology, artistic genres and personal orientations. In challenging existing oppressive structures, the show emphasizes an open emotional framework. Supported by @st.elisabeth.villaelisabeth

“You were not born with venom in your veins. You learned it.”

Thank you for letting us explore our DOOM in a house of hope @anne_imhof. Deeply felt emotional cathartic moments left the aftertaste of optimism. Joy permeates sadness, Romeo and Juliet begins with a suicide and drifts towards love, loneliness and intimacy commingle; are they one thing?

A spectacular magnum opus by @anne_imhof that is so brave and ambitious and combines so many types of performance, each somehow conforming to her singular vision - even a ballet is danced to an electric guitar solo!

DOOM is a powerful response to our time that everybody must see. Anne Imhof subtly interrogates the issues that America and the world is facing in a way that leaves a lasting impact on the audience and culture at large. It was an art historical moment that I am so happy to have witnessed!
