Our Patron, @timjarvisam, recently joined ABC Radio National’s Life Matters to reflect on a life spent exploring some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments.

During the interview, Tim shares stories from his extraordinary expeditions and discusses how these experiences have shaped his commitment to protecting the environment, restoring ecosystems and supporting the communities connected to them.

He also speaks about his new role as Patron of Regenerate Australia and the importance of taking meaningful action to help regenerate Australia’s landscapes.

You can listen to the full interview via ABC listen app.

Welcome, Tim Jarvis AM 🌿

We’re proud to announce @timjarvisam as Regenerate Australia’s Patron.

Environmental scientist. Explorer. 2024 Australian of the Year for South Australia. Tim has spent his career turning big ideas into practical action, from restoring degraded farmland at the @forktreeproject to retracing the polar journeys of Mawson and Shackleton to advocate for climate action and polar protection.

As Patron, Tim will champion our work restoring Australian ecosystems and the communities connected to them.

“I am honoured to become Regenerate Australia’s Patron. Australia is home to extraordinary ecosystems, and many are under growing pressure. I look forward to encouraging more people and organisations to play a role in caring for the landscapes on which we all depend.” Tim Jarvis AM, Patron of Regenerate Australia.

Nature. Community. Carbon.

My memory of Sam Neill was appearing on his 2017 ‘In the Wake of Captain Cook’ series that explored Cook’s voyages and legacy. Sam wanted to talk to me because Cook had discovered the subAntarctic island of South Georgia that I traversed on my 2013 expedition retracing the survival journey of Sir Ernest Shackleton. Windswept Bruny Island off Tasmania was chosen for my interview and I enjoyed every minute of it.
The morning’s filming complete and feeling somewhat surplus to requirement I said my goodbyes to the film crew and headed for the ferry back to the mainland, stopping at a small country cafe for a quick bite to eat. 15 minutes later the door opened and the film crew filed in, but kept to themselves. Shortly after that Sam came in. Spotting me sitting on my own he immediately came over, greeting me warmly and asking me to join him. We chatted away like old friends. Despite his global fame he was warm, witty, kind, and self-deprecating in equal measure. A great loss but a privilege to have met him. by @timjarvisam

Before colonization, much of Australia was not “wild” in the way Europeans imagined it. With knowledge going back tens of thousands of years, First Nations people purposefully cultivated the land and lived in balance with nature.

Colonization shattered that balance. British colonists cleared the land and displaced the First Nations people as quickly and brutally as possible.

@planetwild.official teamed up with @forktreeproject to transform the landscape to the paradise it once was.

By combining Indigenous wisdom and contemporary climate science, we’re helping restore the landscape so it can function and thrive again the way it did for thousands of years.

From Antarctica to the Arctic, the planet’s frozen frontiers are changing before our eyes 🌎🧊

Join polar explorer Tim Jarvis and Museums Victoria’s Joanna Sumner for an evening of stories, science and discovery as they explore the powerful role ice plays in shaping our world.

Presented as part of World Environment Day and Our Wondrous Planet, this thought-provoking conversation will uncover melting ice, changing ecosystems, Earth’s climate history, and what these shifts could mean for our future.

Earlier this year I led Fleet Space Technologies expedition to Antarctica: https://lnkd.in/gq4mMBDX. On the expedition were a global team of scientists and engineers from NASA Ames Research Center, Honeybee Robotics, a Blue Origin Company, Columbia University, and the SETI Institute to advance the science of off-world in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU). Essentially we went to Antarctica to test seismic and acoustic sensing equipment in an extreme environment and map the Antarctic subsurface, with a view to using these technologies on other planets to discover what’s there.
It was a great honour to lead the expedition and understand the off-world applications of such technologies. Equally exciting to me however are the on-world applications - the “spin-ins” that such technologies can enable here on Planet Earth including resourcing the renewable energy transition, telecommunications, earth observation and healthcare to name a few.
Happy Earth Day, Planet A.

Waste concrete rescued from the dump becomes a raised garden bed in the Forktree Project rare seed orchard. A tonne of CO2 sequestered, nothing to landfill and a place to plant some of South Australia’s rarest native plants. A quick trip across the longest bridge in SE Asia aka the 30km long Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge connecting Brunei’s capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, to Temburong rainforest district across Brunei Bay. Brunei has done a good job of protecting (and actually increasing)its rainforest cover in recent years - a stark contrast with its neighbours. Important now that any development in Temburong continues to protect this amazing place whilst being sensitive to the needs of the indigenous groups that live there. Ecotourism can be part of a strategy of helping diversify the economy away from fossil fuels but it must be done well. #nature #biodiversity #indigenouslivesmatter by @timjarvisam

Took the opportunity to hike in Temburong district whilst in Brunei as Keynote speaker at the 21st International School Brunei Global Issues Conference on SDG7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Both the energy and enthusiasm of the student delegates and the scale of nature on display in Temburong were wonderful to see and we must ensure we nurture both in equal measure. #internationalschoolbrunei #brunei #nature #sdgs2030 by @timjarvisam

Really enjoyed sharing the stage with Dr Joy McCann twice during WOMAD at both WOMAD itself and the pre-WOMAD event at the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre talking about the Southern Ocean and the role of science, traditional knowledge and storytelling in conservation. A special thanks too to Professor Andy Lowe, Dr Dominic McAfee, Dr Dan Hikuroa for sharing the stage and imparting their knowledge. by @timjarvisam
