Recently in Rome I presented a two-day ephemeral exhibition at Rhizome in Pigneto featuring monotype posters made by stitching together multiple sheets into larger compositions, then layering them with drawing, erasure, and collage. The show also included scribbled papers, xeroxes, sketches, and notes connected to the development of my paintings, along with an accompanying xerox zine. Post-market, nothing for sale. Maybe the Toledo Museum of Art, 24x30” oil on canvas (with oyster shells) 2025 from Passions and Ancient Days @halseymckaygallery This painting is maybe my favorite from this triptych because this summer I went to the @toledomuseum to see the antiquities and was given a tour by @rokorumora who told me great stories about the collection, the space and the people involved in the acquisitions over time. I conceptualize what the Toledo Museum collection might be like from my particular perspective, dragging in images from works not in their collection but very well might be… a sort of fantasy football type of painting. The painting is also about space. figure/ground. the image. the thing in itself. platonic form. epictetus. plasticity. stuff no one really talks about in contemporary art any more but i do! by @timoteo_hull_

Sightlines: Cruising the Metropolitan Museum 48x48” oil on canvas 2025. This painting up @halseymckaygallery takes fragments from the Dietrich von Bothmer collection @metancient and places the sight lines in a context that evokes cruising at the Agora in Athens; furtive glances of the male gaze turned inwards. The Von Bothmer collection is also the source of many controversial fragments I cited in my recent show at the Carlos Museum in Atlanta. There is a rich source of material @metmuseum that has not fully been explored in a contemporary or queer context. Honk if you don’t Exist, 48x48” Oil on Canvas with painted Oyster shells, 2025. This painting has a lot going on in it. I was thinking of the aesthetics of the Trapper Keeper and the grid as an active picture plane that can hold variable motifs. The bumper sticker points to the pre-socratic philosophers who questioned human existence and folly. I love that bumper stickers were the original memes. The oyster shells are a simulation of a travel souvenir, which I saw once in Greece. The painting is busy but so is life.
