👋🌍 In case you’ve followed me since I started my video series on how I decided to have a baby during a climate crisis, here’s a little more about me 👉👉👉 My account has transformed so many times over the years, from teen fashion blogger to road-blocking activist to now focusing on my life as a new mum. 🚨 I disrupted a Cannes Lions event to call out the CEO of Shell Brands (Dean Aragón) and asked him why Shell continues to conceal the impact it has on women. While he’s sitting on panels about female empowerment in the ‘Equality Lounge’ and acting like they’re leading the way - women farmers in Nigeria are suffering horrendously from oil spills caused by Shell. His response was that he isn’t aware that they’re concealing it and that, "As a father of 5 children, I care deeply about the future of this planet and that's why I joined Shell." He became the brand CEO of a climate-wrecking oil and gas company which has been put into court for its lack of climate action, has been responsible for legitimate murder, and is continuously greenwashing the general public. I’m sure he loves his children dearly, but he needs to rethink his job and his employer so that everyone’s children can have a better future. Marketing and ad agencies, as well as the brands themselves, are complicit in our current trajectory for catastrophic climate impacts. 🏖🔥 I’m at it again, and so is @edelman. They’re not addressing working with the likes of Shell, Chevron, Exxon, and top Saudi oil tsars during their well publicized #CannesLions panels, and I’m pushing them on it. 🔥 In their panel “Is Gen Z Closing the Gender Gap?”, every single speaker mentioned climate and how good Gen Z are at advocating for meaningful change - including Amanda Edelman, who leads the company's Gen Z Lab. With that, I took the opportunity to question them a bit further. They met me with a non-answer, and it’s shocking that Edelman aren’t even willing to answer a question from a 23-year-old Gen Z woman, when they say we’re so important. 🤔🚫 I'm here in Cannes with @clean_creatives and I will continue to highlight the agencies which are helping to greenwash the biggest polluters - until they commit to stopping. #canneslions2023 #climatechange #advertising #marketing #genz #CannesLions70 #cannes #edelman by @tolmeia

Here’s how I’m balancing life as a new mum with activism 👀 Spoiler: I don’t. I got asked this question recently and I thought I’d speak the truth and let you know you’re not alone if activism hasn’t slotted neatly into your life as a new parent as you might have imagined. I was totally that person who was dreaming of my baby being able to fit perfectly into my existing lifestyle but babies are unique individuals and sometimes we have to work around them by not attending a protest at nap time or by prioritising our own rest, too. I can’t wait to take my child out on the streets with me (hopefully sooner rather than later) but there’s a lot that we can do while nap-trapped and sleep deprived at home, too. 📝 Some notes on being 5 months postpartum and how I see life with a newborn reflected in the world around me - full piece at the 🔗 in bio, where I tend to share writings from the heart. “Two months ago, deep in the midst of another relentless heatwave, I stood gazing upon the sandy, sun-scorched grass of my local park, just one still lit cigarette away from being set ablaze, my 3-month-old baby strapped to my chest. In that moment, I came to the decision that what we face as a collective is comparable to life with a newborn…” #motherhood #parenting #climatechange #postpartum #newborn While greenery shoots back up across our fields and lawns after some much-needed rain, I feel a bit like the land too; a little brighter but still prone to flooding. The sticky, sweaty heat. The red glow of the GroEgg in our bedroom, which didn’t drop below 25°c for months. The baby sleep-suits that were worn a handful of times before the heatwaves set in and now no longer fit. The oven we avoided turning on at all costs to keep the kitchen just a few degrees cooler. The duvet that now lives folded up on the floor. The never-ending white noise of the tower fans. The patch of golden straw that borders the road near our house, previously a plush green grass. The drought. Another hottest summer on record. Thousands of deaths across Europe. Fires. Smoke. Devastation. Glacier collapse. When I was pregnant, I dreaded what it would feel like to experience the climate crisis while raising a child and my anxiety suddenly shifted from something that felt distant and hypothetical, to something that felt very real. I now felt utterly and totally unprepared. I started to wonder if we’ll ever be prepared enough, if now was the time to start packing an emergency to-go bag and if we should start stockpiling food. How can we be responsible parents if we aren’t prepared for an emergency? by @tolmeia

❤️‍🔥 Doing nothing is still doing something when our houses - are literally - on fire. These decisions, both political and individual, are the stories we will tell our children. I sit here with my baby experiencing the 5th heatwave of their very young life feeling sickened once again by our government that is acting like this is all just something we can control by having fewer picnics in the park. Our air quality level is in the red as surrounding counties battle more fires exacerbated by unprecedentedly dry conditions. Firefighters are sharing how desperate the situation is getting and how unprepared we really are, despite the warnings from scientists decades ago. You can make sure the story you tell is one to be proud of. Join the fight. Show up. Get uncomfortable. Don’t stay silent. 👉 If there’s one thing we can all do in light of the world on fire, it’s to not allow ourselves to get used to it. These conditions are not normal, they were created by people with names and addresses who decided to ignore the warnings decades ago. Do not allow yourself to become complacent as we watch global leaders like @andy.burnham fall for fossil fuel lobbyists. Do not get used to it.
