Tonight! Cult selector and Salon des Amateurs mystic 𝑽𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒓 𝑰𝒗𝒌𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒄 lands in Naarm. Known for his slow-motion sorcery behind the decks, Ivkovic’s sets feel like time dissolving. From the boat to the club, bending the beat until it chugs. Odd-music experts 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑫’𝒔𝒊𝒓𝒆 descend from Gadigal Land. A duo of chaotic elegance, unearthing the uncharted margins of dance music with sounds swinging between the floor and the fringe. 𝑬𝒙 𝑷𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒐 & 𝑳𝒂𝒍𝒊ć summon a cross-generational collision of post-punk spirit and ex-Yugoslav futurism, collapsing eras into one continuous signal. 𝑼𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒉 open the evening, a three-piece weaving folk pulse through noise and reverb, channelling voices that drift between tradition and transmission. 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒓𝒐 traverses roles of programmer, selector, and visual artist – flickering through left-field oddities, cross-collaged soundtracks, and no-wave currents that discard genre. On the Misc Rooftop, 𝑻𝒂𝒓𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒌 channels dubwise disorientation and experimental hybrid mysticism, weaving echoes of Roma sonic traditions, while 𝑰𝑽𝑨𝑨𝑵𝑨 bridges the night, threading dreamlike percussion and bass-heavy textures through the kafana haze. ☀️ Sun is shining. A newly formed three-piece tracing folklore through feedback, 𝑼𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒘𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒉 emerged from a forest that doesn’t exist. They conjure a world both ancient and synthesised – voices chanting in reverb, drums pulsing like a heartbeat, bass dragging through the soil. Weaving Lithuanian folk ritual through experimental electronics, they’ve been seen only twice before. The forest grew louder each time, humming in a language older than the machines. As the boat docks and the night begins, the Miscellania Rooftop transforms into a kafana, a gathering place where music, food, and spirit intertwine. Across the Balkans, the kafana sits at the heart of social life, where poets, musicians, workers, and revolutionaries meet to eat, sing, and trade songs and sorrows. Born from Ottoman-era coffeehouses and shaped by the bohemian pulse of socialist Yugoslavia, the kafana became more than a bar — a living room for the people, a place of warmth, melody, and midnight confession. From 7pm, as the sun fades over the city, we’ll serve a spread of Balkan classics: Ćevapi with Lepinje, Ajvar & Kajmak, Punjene Paprike (V/GF) stuffed with rice and herbs, Šopska Salata, Baklava + more. Rakija will be poured — to toast, to loosen tongues, to mark the passing of another long night in song. Tarquin Manek and IVAANA soundtrack the rooftop as plates are passed, conversations stretch, and the city hums below. Come straight from the boat. Find your table. Eat slow. It's Balkan brilliance at Misc post boat party, headlined by the inimitable slow music master 𝑽𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒓 𝑰𝒗𝒌𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒄, with a lineup of live music and DJs from 6pm co-presented with 𝐓𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐧𝐨 𝐙𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐨!.⁠ ⁠ 𝑽𝒍𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒎𝒊𝒓 𝑰𝒗𝒌𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒄 has been a bucket list booking for the venue since day dot. The Belgrade born and raised DJ started spinning records in the 80s as a teenager and brings these decades of experience to his slo-mo, selector style of mixing. He's got an incredible skill of building a sonic world that sounds alien but feels familiar, harmonising new and old music into a futuristic rippling acid landscape of slow motion machine funk, shimmering psychedelia, esoteric vocal samples, dense industrial, playful slo-motion trance, otherworldly dub, timeless post-punk and plenty of genres we can't even put words to.⁠ ⁠ There's so many pieces to put together in the Vladimir lore -- including the years of incredible b2bs with fellow Salon Des Amateurs resident Lena Wilikens, the boundary-pushing catalogue of his label Offen Music, his incredible cataloguing of Yugoslav 80s sounds, his pioneering cheeky gambit of spinning high energy trance 45s at 33pm, his beard, his playful press pics... It's hard to be brief when writing about a man so committed and engaged with his unique craft, but it's a style and spirit that must be felt to be understood.⁠ ⁠ A week and a half away, Vladimir Ivkovic will play an extended (3 hour) set at the Saturday night of our weekender party, all kicking off from 6pm on the roof with a Rooftop BBQ / Balkan Kafana.⁠ ⁠ Dream gig, and our perfect way to kick off the Cup Day long weekend and the warmer months!⁠ ⁠ Tickets are flying, with very limited weekend passes still available. We are thrilled to introduce our first headliner for Saturday’s programming: @csandkreme ★ CS + Kreme are a duo consisting of seasoned musicians Conrad Standish and Sam Karmel, who record hallucinogenic experimental music. Drawn like moths to the liminal state, CS + Kreme write slow and meditative ‘horizontal music’ which takes in heavy dub-processing, sweeping post-punk and chamber music soundscapes that are anchored around Standish’s leftfield bass guitar. With output on acclaimed labels such as The Trilogy Tapes & Efficient Space, CS + Kreme continue to create psychedelic excursions that transcend beyond the sonic boundaries that we have ever known to exist. ★ CS + Kreme will be playing live in the upstairs ballroom on Saturday the 10th of August at Russian House. Soft Approach VS Tongue Dissolver‼️ Who Wins? You do. Tongue Dissolver is the futuristic punk collaboration of Ruby Lee (Bodies of Divine Infinite Eternal Spirit [bodies]), Andrew Huhtanen McEwan (Ahm, Huntly) and Aldo Thomas (Wet Kiss/bodies). Two years ago, @tung_dizzy played their first ever set at The Grace Darling for our 2022 edition of Leaps and Bounds. A driving force in the scene, whilst undeniably being one of the most in demand artists of the moment (and rightfully so!) We come full circle, as they go head-to-head with local icons of the underground, Soft Approach… Experiencing a Soft Approach set evokes a certain sense of nostalgia to many in the Naarm community. Back in the infamous years of Hugs & Kisses (RIP), Soft Approach challenged the archaic musical landscape, amassing a devoted local following for their emotive, experimental pop. Their performances at Camp A Low Hum left a lasting impression on all, with their set regarded by many as one of the festival’s most memorable highlights. A match-up for the ages, it’s an honour to be hosting a Soap VS Dizz collaborative set. Comprised of members of our very own gdh family, we’ve been counting down the days for this memorable showdown. Guppy (QLD) make their long-awaited Naarm debut this Friday at 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 for 𝑻𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒏𝒐 𝒁𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒐!’𝒔 full-venue takeover! 🤯 Formed by members of notable bands from the Meanjin DIY scene (Cured Pink, CLEVER, C.D.I.Q [Come Die In Queensland]), the four-piece conjure up a sonic fantasy of guitar-less tracks, driven by saxophones and experimental jams; a four-way tug-o-war between shiv, jack, callum & pam.  From cherished memories made in Wainuiomata at the much-revered Camp A Low Hum, we’ve been scheming how to get Guppy down for months.
