I wish I could slow down time, but we know life doesn’t work like that. In the meantime I’m soaking it in and enjoying this life of mine.

GG. See you next season.
.
Season seemed to go by in the blink of an eye in NJ. From frustrating daily limits, late season cold fronts, and more, the season wasn’t ideal. Still some amazing upland to wrap up at @dunwalke_preserve . Didn’t get out as much as I had hoped this year, didn’t get to hunt with certain people as much or none at all, but here’s to next year. Proud of my friends, dogs, giving many firsts for people, and seeing people love what they do. Had some cool new experiences, buddy’s shot some monster deer, shot a few bands, and now we plan for next season.
.
Time to run some dogs!

A picture worth a thousand words.
.
Some photos are more valuable than words and this is one of them. Grateful to have this moment captured by unarguably one of the best photographers in my book being with someone who's been by my side since the t-ball days to chasing birds up and down the east coast.

“Six”
.
.
The spice must flow. Formal introduction of Rockin B’s “I’ve got your Six”. With Sammy’s last and final litter touching down this past June, we knew we needed to keep a female in preserving Sammy’s bloodline and the qualities that come with it. With @benjam_baker pairing me with this little one I couldn’t be happier and more grateful to be taking part. Big shoes to fill and hopefully in the years to come will be the next female among and already robust lineup and future pipeline at @rockinbgundogs . Will be some time before she’s on birds but big plans to come out of this girl.

Before most people wake up, the woods are already telling their story. Sunrise, fresh air, thunder in the timber, and a bird to remember. Hard to beat mornings like this. Hearing the woods come alive, and being fortunate enough to share it with good friends and one of the most incredible creatures God put on this earth. Turkeys truly are one of the most beautiful and wild creatures out there. And some damn good eating.

After owning my @gueriniusa for some years I finally got to have a proper shoot with it and heated the barrels up enough to cook bacon. Was a different feeling not standing behind the peg with a dog. More than once I caught myself looking down and around me for a dog to send on a retrieve after @j.conte9 and I were picking off birds. Laughs were had and barrels were hot. Shell to bucket slappin party trick is still a work in progress. Thankful for another great shoot @dunwalke_preserve, the @rockinbgundogs crew had an amazing run almost topping our best recovery rate, and most importantly @reededmiston for kindly offering up his peg for us!

Fern 🕊️.

Over the years your body and movement proved dog years are straight robbery and time kills. Time is a bitch. There are so many things that go through your head when you lose a dog. So many things you wish you got to do, or have done differently, and most importantly be there to say your goodbyes. This isn’t my first dog heartbreak and it won’t be my last. But fuck does this hit hard. Fern was one of the first female dogs aside from Kira (that I can clearly remember from day one). One of the most gentle and kind hearted dogs I’ll ever have the pleasure of having grown up with. When it was go time she was all in, jumping and yipping to be first in the woods or out of the car. But back home after an adventure, the bed under the TV, the half way landing point in the stairs, or downstairs bathroom would suffice for laying the rest of the day. While you lived out your years at my parents house, I’ll never not walk past my old childhood bedroom visiting my parents and glance in to see if you’re laying on my bed and pillows flooding the air with your hair that never seemed to end. Even after a professional grooming. I’m not sure Kira, Ulrich, and Poncho really understand that you’re no longer here, but deep down I pray to God they do. Hope you run into Sammy and Kernz up there.

Had the opportunity to drive our @rockinbgundogs Creed from the last litter to his owner @caleb.colemann and spend some time with @fowlplains. Rang in the new year, saw a lot of places on the way out, learned that St. Louis isn’t friendly and was probably the worst place in the US for us to stop for the night, weather from tornado warnings in Missouri, high teens up to high 50’s sitting outside in the sun at West Lodge in Kansas, first Lessers, speckle bellys, widgeon, and so on. Can’t thank the Fowl Plains team enough for their hospitality. by @travishenderson
