Welcome to Tri-State Fire Training, where passion, experience, and dedication to the fire service come together to deliver high-quality training for firefighters across the Tri-State area.

Right now, we focus on lecture-based programs designed to educate and inspire. Our current offerings include engaging presentations on leadership, fireground operations, mental wellness, and other critical topics. Every program is crafted to reflect the realities of today’s fire service, drawing from real-world experience and tailored to meet the needs of your department or organization.

But we’re just getting started.

As we grow, our goal is to expand into hands-on training, bringing realistic and impactful skill-based instruction directly to fire departments. We also plan to offer fire prevention programs as part of our future class schedule, including specialized training for businesses, senior centers, and community organizations, aimed at increasing safety and preparedness across the region.

To help us deliver the highest quality training, we plan to bring on board experienced instructors from across the Tri-State area who share the same passion for teaching, mentorship, and advancing the fire service. Their knowledge and dedication will be a key part of how we grow and serve the firefighting community.

Tri-State Fire Training is more than just a training platform, it’s a commitment to bettering the fire service, one class at a time. We’re excited about what’s ahead and look forward to training with you.

This week, we’re breaking down the Special Ops Program Lifecycle.

As technical rescue programs are established, develop, evolve, and sometimes decline, what does that progression actually look like?

What defines each stage? What challenges come with it? Why do programs move forward, lose momentum, or fall into stagnation? And more importantly, what does it take to keep moving in the right direction?

Throughout the week, we’ll take an in-depth look at the realities of building, maintaining, and sustaining technical rescue programs.

Because building a capable team is one thing. Keeping it capable is another.

The reality? It’s not a straight line.

9 + 0 = 9
8 + 1 = 9
7 + 2 = 9
6 + 3 = 9
3 × 3 = 9
18 ÷ 2 = 9
12 − 3 = 9
27 ÷ 3 = 9

Eight different ways. One correct answer.

Now apply that same concept to leadership.

One of the biggest mistakes a leader can make is believing that their way is the only right way. Just because you’ve done something a certain way for 20 years doesn’t mean someone else can’t accomplish the same objective using a different approach.

Experience is valuable. Tradition has its place. Standards are necessary. But none of those should prevent us from listening, learning, and recognizing that there may be another way to get the job done.

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐭.

If someone can accomplish the same objective safely, effectively, and within established standards, why should it matter if their approach looks different from yours?

As leaders, we should be developing independent thinkers, not creating carbon copies of ourselves. We should encourage questions, welcome ideas, and give people the opportunity to solve problems without constantly looking over their shoulders.

That doesn’t mean lowering expectations or compromising safety. It means understanding the difference between maintaining a standard and controlling every step of the process.

𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 “𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭” 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 “𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭.”

Sometimes the best thing a leader can do is step aside, watch someone else work, and realize there’s something new to learn.

Different methods. Same positive outcome.

That’s not a failure of leadership. That’s what good leadership should produce.

At Tri-State Fire Training, we believe taking care of our own goes well beyond the fireground. This fall, we’re proud to release our Men’s Health apparel collection to help raise awareness and support for two issues that hit especially close to home in the fire service: occupational cancer and mental health. These are battles far too many of our brothers face, and we believe it’s our responsibility to stand together, raise awareness, and support those who need it.

Our limited-edition design is available on T-shirts and sweatshirts in both youth and adult sizes. A portion of the proceeds from every purchase will be donated to a men’s health initiative supporting occupational cancer and mental health.

The online store will remain open until October 29th!

To order, visit the link in our bio, find the link on our website, or simply DM us and we’ll send it directly to you. by @tristatefiretraining

A huge thank you to @mike_greco_152 for coming out to my home department and presenting his “Fewer Fires Doesn’t Mean Less Enthusiasm” course.

Mike brings a raw, unfiltered approach to the classroom that is refreshing to see. He doesn’t sugarcoat the realities of the fire service, and his ability to connect with firefighters of all experience levels, especially our younger members, is something I really appreciated.

His message is honest, relatable, and a reminder that regardless of how many fires we go to, our passion for the job and commitment to improving should never change.

I highly recommend Mike to any department looking for a great presentation. He brings real conversations, real experiences, and a passion for the job that you can’t fake.

Thanks again, Mike, for taking the time to share your message with our members! #raisethestandard #cowboysfromhell by @tristatefiretraining

What do people say about you when you’re not in the room?On this episode, Nick explores the connection between reputation, consistency, character, and performance. Your reputation isn’t built by your title or what you say about yourself; it’s built through the actions you take every day. We break down what it means to be known for leadership, preparation, accountability, adaptability, and being someone others can count on when it matters most.
The question is simple: What are you known for—and is itwhat you want to be known for?

Winning an election doesn’t automatically make you a leader. Being well liked, sharing a few beers, and getting along with everyone are great qualities, but they won’t make the tough decisions for you when things go sideways. If you’re going to accept the responsibility of leading firefighters, you owe it to them to keep improving. Read a book, attend a class, listen to a podcast, study tactics, or learn from those around you. Whatever it is, never stop learning. Nobody expects you to know everything, but your firefighters deserve someone who’s willing to put in the work. Be a good person, be approachable, and enjoy the brotherhood, but remember, popularity might win you an election, preparation earns you the right to lead.

The firefighter mindset goes beyond the fireground. It’s about thinking ahead, staying composed under pressure, looking out for your crew, and constantly pushing yourself to improve. These traits aren’t developed overnight. They’re built through training, experience, discipline, and dedication. Nobody is perfect, but there’s always room to be better than you were yesterday.

The standard you set for yourself matters. by @tristatefiretraining
