I am deeply delighted to have had an hour long video chat on my #1 favourite audio production YouTube channel @producelikeapro with the legendary @warrenhuart - honoured! Link in bio (on my Linktree) - thx for watching! by @tugboatplstudio

The end of an era? Or maybe the start of a new one? I moved to LA 3 years ago but next to my cottage, this happening room was the only other place I could truly call home. Steve has put the house on the market so its days are numbered. The best memories. The best pals. The best music.

This is not the end and there will be another Tugboat place (maybe even two with Tugboat South), but lots of feels today regardless. If anyone is in the market for an amazing purpose-built, sound proof studio with all kinds of mojo, hit me up. Steve will throw in a pretty rad house too. by @tugboatplstudio

I decided to get rid of this barely working organ that I had found in an alley years ago, cuz we needed more room mid-session, so I asked for their help moving it out to the alley behind #tugboatplstudio ... I thought oh hey lemme snap a pic of u guys on top of it while we are out here, and it ended up their 2024 press shot. A nice way to commemorate a beautiful old organ that was probably once something futuristic and wild to someone. by @tugboatplstudio

A song and video I made for these top-tier humans, @thebankesbrothers … basically the brothers I never had. by @tugboatplstudio

I’m starting to document the studio a bit more before chchchchchanges begin. This footage of @saidthewhale was mainly just bits and pieces I shot over the few days it took us to record/mix their latest single Never Grow Up. Initially intended for them to have as “content”.. it ended up being just enough to make a full / fun music video. Ps: so proud of my soft-souled shy beauty, seen here teaching Tyler to tattoo. by @tugboatplstudio

Am I recording NEW @saidthewhale RIGHT NOW?? Hard to say. They certainly look like them. by @tugboatplstudio

Proud of this new @danmanganmusic smash ‘Say When.’ (Pre-save now/ out July 19). I love how it turned out… but even more I loved getting to know Dan and becoming good pals. Dan has a natural way of getting the best out of the people he colabs with and that’s such a huge asset / maybe even the most important asset an artist can have. But yeah..Some songs come together in minutes and some songs are a journey (both having their own merits) but yeah ‘Say When’ was the latter. Dan brought a different long form version of this song to me as individual tracks, and it was rad..! But miles from something that could ever be on the radio ..which is fine/ great - but not great if the goal is to make a ‘single’ which team-Dan was jonesing for. It had a crazy arrangement and about 100 tracks of instruments (horns/strings/ synths/ sound fx/ drum machines/ etc) that he said i could use or not use. He’s obvs a great producer himself, but with this one he was stumped and burnt. #stokedbutchoked So i made multiple versions of it on my own, rearranged and mixed, and presented what i thought would be the ‘one’ .. the sculpture from his clay.. but nope. Little did i know that this version was only a first draft of Say When 2.0 and just the beginning of three ‘heavy on the chin scratching’ hair pulling (albeit super fun) weeks of rabbit holing. Tugboat was the HQ, partially with dan but also a lot of solo late nights ..but we’d also send constant giddy texts and voice notes. we’d send wacky new arrangements back and forth as suggestions and hype each other up when one of us could sense morale dipping.. we cut some new vox, got Parker on bass, (i even played the gits in the chorus!), cobbled a sax hook together from a pile of different takes, scrapped entire sections, muted / unmuted everything.. all the tricks ya know. In the end it just felt right all of a sudden and so we hit stop and bounced it out. Lots of tears on the editing room floor, but in the end it’s nice on the ears and just flows casually. Which is a victory! Cuz sometimes it’s just way more work to make a song easy like sunday morning, than it is to leave it in the initial radiohead b-side form it was birthed in. by @tugboatplstudio

Tugboat on full display. Tracking @parker.bossley for @furtrade is always a spectacular spectacle to witness. Going through dual @radialeng HDI’s, an @empiricallabs distressor and sometimes a lil @fender champ amp going upstairs, including not just close mic but bathroom mic and drum overheads picking up a lil stereo room vibe. by @tugboatplstudio

Video #2 of 4 of @thematineemusic one shot / all live at @tugboatplstudio ! Link in bio by @tugboatplstudio

Major talent Cole George, or Coke George as autocorrect insists. Slaying the driest drum attic in Canada. @hotelmiramusic by @tugboatplstudio

We are desperately hoping Ted Danson will legitimately be open to making a cameo in the upcoming @hotelmiramusic video for Ted Danson with the Moonlight. Ted are you out there? by @tugboatplstudio
