POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Illinois-based artist Conrad Bakker is widely known for his “facsimile” sculptures and installations, which re-create the unmonumental objects and spaces of the everyday. For Untitled Project: COPY SHOP, Bakker brought together a wide array of these objects - carved and painted on a 1:1 scale in the artist’s studio - and installed them in The Weather Station to re-create a 24-hour copy shop in the gallery.

Bakker’s Untitled Project: COPY SHOP positions the archetypal photocopy service businesses of the 80s and 90s as sites of curiosity, inquiry, artistic production, and nostalgia. “There was something strange, wonderful, and creative in this kind of commercial conjoining,” Bakker writes, “where material-making, experimentation, politics and belief might be connected.” For Untitled Project, Bakker created full-scale copy machines, tables, signage, and office equipment, all of which merge with The Weather Station’s architecture (as well as its previous life as a functioning office) to evoke a shared space from our collective, recent past.

This publication of the same name brings together documentation of Bakker’s Weather Station installation alongside a short essay on the project by curator Brian Hitselberger, discussing the work’s unique relationship to Herman Melville’s 1853 novella Bartleby the Scrivener. Untitled Project: COPY SHOP also includes a poster documenting Bakker’s installation in the gallery bathroom and a special artist book re-imagining Bartleby as a cut-and-paste xerox zine.

Now available: I Dreamed You Were Here by Jessica Wohl

$30 + $4 for shipping 📬

I Dreamed You Were Here documents Jessica Wohl’s solo exhibition of the same name at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Using the language of quilting, Wohl transforms the Hunter Museum Mansion Stairwell with layered textile banners made from found garments, linens, and other discarded household items. Her process of disassembling and reusing textiles creates a tactile exchange with the item’s former owner - the new forms that emerge are collaborations with those histories. These pieces address the hidden potential beneath the surface of our day-to-day systems of care, labor, and relationships. In her work, Wohl uses the softness of the material and the intricately stitched text to communicate with the viewer, inviting them to join her in a quiet revolution against exploitation and oppression.

I Dreamed You Were Here features essays by artists Zak Foster @zakfoster.quilts and Brian Hitselberger @brianhitsstudio , whose insights into Wohl’s work and process further illuminate her practice. Also included are facsimiles of Wohl’s embroidered to-do list series I’ll Take Care of It - an intimate look into the care and relationships of the artist herself.

48 pages, color laserprint with single-color riso inserts. Edition of 200.

Interested in a copy? We are more than happy to ship! $30 + $4 for shipping. DM either Brian or Jessica for a a copy.

Adaptation of a one-page zine format using prints from my local one-hour photo lab.

Each photograph records not only a time and a place, but the felt sensations of weather: a memory of the body, more so than the mind.

“I believe that any experience, whatever its nature, has the inalienable right to chronicled. There is no such thing as a lesser truth.”

-Annie Ernaux

In March of 2025, I traveled to Central America for the first time.

Nice to Meet You documents one week in the Puntarenas province of Costa Rica through images of walks, beaches, flora and landscapes. Evidence of both human and animal life in this beautiful, tropical place also appear.

Although the heat was relentless, our accommodation was built around a small swimming pool, which became a landscape of its own every night after sunset. The central pages of Nice to Meet You reproduce stills from digital video shot in the water, riso-printed on colored pages.

Nice to Meet You is the English translation of Encantada — the name of our hotel.

Although NYC-based photographer Ian Lewandowski and Indianapolis-based writer Taylor Lewandowski share the same surname, they are not actually related. The fact that both men also grew up in the state of Indiana only makes this coincidence more striking.

For this collaboration, Taylor responded to a body of Ian’s photography with a work of original fiction. outline(s) - his elegant (and elegaic) short story - centers around an inter-generational conversation between the characters Sam, Faith and Hiram, and limns the uniquely midwestern context that Ian’s photographs also seek to describe. Folded into Taylor’s writing are a variable suite of three of Ian’s photographs, printed on a heavy orange cardstock.

outline(s) was created to accompany Red Hot Ingot, Ian Lewandowski’s solo exhibition at The Weather Station in Lafayette, Indiana.

For years, Portland-based photographer Geof Teague @notsotough has created small works of mail art for a network of friends and lovers far and wide, pairing his own photographs with short texts to create open-ended narratives that gesture towards the play between distance and desire. His tumblr, Not So Tough, is an open archive of his photography and portraiture, which the artist has used to categorize moments of “connection, doubt, and the discovery of small joys.”

For Before It Starts, Teague collaborated with Two Steps Press to emulate his tumblr in physical form— a suite of three double-sided risograph posters drawn from his archives. These images are intended to be “read” in any order, shifting meanings from reading to the next.

Following the death of her father in 2023, Ashley Jude Jonas began revisiting the photographs and objects she had collected from the handmade house he lived in in Key West, Florida for over 50 years. Described by the artist as “a shack, a museum, a laboratory, [and a] home for wayward objects,” her father’s house has long been a site of great meaning for her, particularly once she began to develop an assemblage-based studio practice as a working artist.

Magic Maker gathers together Jonas’ Instax photographs of her father’s house, alongside a series of reflections on the emotional and mental reverberations it continues to occupy for her following his death. Scans of the various objects Jonas collected over many years are also included, objects which later became starting points for a body of sculpture, and described by Brian Hitselberger in his essay for the publication as “things used and lived with, a record of a life and its weather.”

Magic Maker was created to accompany Aerial Mo(u)rning, Ashley Jude Jonas’ solo exhibition at The Weather Station in Lafayette, Indiana.

This Saturday at @basketshop.gallery, I will be leading a workshop titled Lost + Bound.

For this workshop, we will address two questions:

How can we make something old into something new?
How can we make something that no longer holds our attention engage us again?

Each participant will bring a book they are no longer interested in and something to draw with. Instructor will provide a series of examples of artist books that re-imagine and re-ignite old texts, and lead a series of demonstrations to alter old book pages. As a group, we will de-construct our texts, and collaboratively re-make them into unique artist books using various processes and simple fastening techniques. Participants will be encouraged to share pages from the books that they bring, so that everyone’s material becomes fair game.

Participants bring:
-an old book (any kind of book, but with images will be exciting)
-something to draw with (traditional or non-traditional material)

Instructor provides:
-Cutting tools and surfaces
-Tapes and various adhesives
-Bone folders
-Typewriter
-Various papers + cardstocks to incorporate into projects
-Fasteners
