RISE Movement Society
Rooted in Strength & Empowerment

I’m excited to introduce RISE Movement Society Strength + Mentorship for young female athletes (approximately ages 13–16).

RISE is an 8-week program designed to help young athletes build confidence with strength training while creating a positive, supportive environment to learn, move, and grow.

Sessions will introduce athletes to resistance bands, dynamic warm-ups, barbell, dumbbell and kettlebell basics, resistance training technique, and effective warm-up and cool-down strategies. We’ll also make time for games, team-building, and conversations around confidence, resilience, performance pressure, goal setting, and navigating life as a female athlete.

The program is designed and facilitated by four-time Olympian and fourth-year University of Calgary Kinesiology student @erinmielzynski , with programming support from three-time Olympic team physiotherapist @tyson_physio and contributions from experienced female athletes and mentors.

📅 October 27 – December 17, 2026
Tuesdays: 8:00–9:00 PM
Thursdays: 8:15–9:15 PM

An athlete asked me a few weeks ago during her appointment:

“What’s a common trait of Olympic gold medalists and the elite athletes you work with?”

My answer? They never stop pursuing excellence. They’re always looking for ways to learn, improve, and get better.

That’s what stands out to me about working with @nathan_rourke, the @cfl 2025 Most Outstanding Player. His commitment to continuous improvement is what sets him apart.

Constant and never-ending improvement.

“Tyson, thank you for all your help, not only for making me feel better but for teaching me so much! I’m a better player for it!”

@erinmielzynski learned why I asked her, “Can you run FAST, hold a 🤳, and get a dash-cam view of 🚀 @eliseb.hagen?” 😂

Good thing Erin is a 5-time Olympian and has LOTS of experience on the track! 🏃‍♀️💨

Swipe RIGHT 👉 to see what I get my @ucalgaryknes students to do as part of their practicum…

Erin and I are SOOO proud of Elise and all her hard work to get back on the track!!! 💪💪 taken in Glenmore Athletic Park by @tyson_physio

Great session with @murad.zaamout with @mastershockey_ showcasing how you can integrate rehab with on-ice performance training. 🏒💪

The goal: rehab the right way, optimize movement, improve athletic resiliency & durability, and build performance on the ice.
Will share highlights from our session 🔜

Working with 6’6” @brownu_mhockey goalie @freddiehalyk, we have been focused on building the foundation that allows a goalie to move with more efficiency, power, and control.

Key areas we have been targeting:
🏒 Hip and pelvis mobility, strength, and control
🏒 Thoracic spine and rib mobility, strength, and control
🏒 Breathing efficiency and mechanics
🏒 Ankle and foot mobility, strength, and control

With the first on ice session of the off-season approaching, we put Freddie in skates to begin bridging the gap between gym work and on-ice demands.

The goal was simple: get accustomed to balancing on the blade, while integrating the movement qualities we’ve been developing in the gym.

Great athletes aren’t built only on the ice — they’re built through the details away from it.

It has been awesome working with @makennafitz - one of Canada’s emerging road running stars!! ⭐️
We have been working to get her back running and rehab an insertional Achilles tendonosis.
This is a great exercise to work on tibia, ankle, foot, and hip mobility, mobility control, and strength.

This video shows the importance of the midfoot to drop down and the calcaneus (heel bone) to glide posterior (backwards). When there is stiffness in the midfoot and reduced mobility of the calcaneus, the Achilles tends to “tug and pull” at the calcaneal tuberosity and creates thickening and irritation at the back of the heel which the Achilles attaches.
Other areas of focus/key performance indicators include:
Improving strength and capacity of the calfs and improved foot propulsion force
Improving 1st toe mobility and strength
Improving hip mobility extension and strength
Improving tibial rotation mobility and strength
Improving thoracic spine mobility and strength

I am excited to see Makenna back to running healthy, but as we work hard to improve her biomechanics and running efficiency, more excited to see fast she can run and make her a more durable runner! taken in Movement Sports Clinic by @tyson_physio

Team Elise 💪❤️

“Great things happen when three individuals bring different strengths together for one shared purpose.”

What an incredible six weeks it was as @erinmielzynski and I worked with @eliseb.hagen at @movesportclinic to help get her back on the track after two foot injuries sidelined her season.

It was inspiring to watch Elise’s commitment over her rehab journey. She showed up every day with resilience, patience, and a willingness to do the work, even when progress wasn’t always linear.

One of the best parts being a part of Team Elise was seeing the bond that developed between Erin and Elise. Their connection, encouragement, and shared commitment made this rehabilitation process even more special.

I’m incredibly proud of how Elise navigated a frustrating setback. Injuries are never easy, but the character, discipline, and confidence she built through this process will make her an even stronger athlete in the years ahead.

The comeback is always greater than the setback. ❤️ taken in Movement Sports Clinic by @tyson_physio

🕷️🕷️ The Spider-Man Exercise… born from curiosity, refined through movement.

After a bike workout and a midnight rolling session, I couldn’t stop thinking about one question:

How can I help hockey players move better, stay more resilient, and perform at a higher level?

In hockey, groin and hip issues are common—and often stubborn. One area I keep coming back to is how well an athlete can control breathing, rib mobility, and pelvic movement under load.

That late-night problem-solving turned into what I now call the Spider-Man Exercise. 🕷️🕸️

I recently had @brownu_mhockey goalie @freddiehalyk try it for the first time. The most valuable feedback wasn’t about how it looked—it was how it felt. As soon as he stood up, he said, “I feel great.”

It’s not just about returning to play—it’s about building athletes who move and feel better in their bodies under pressure.

If you try the Spider-Man Exercise, I’d be interested to hear what you notice in your movement, training, or on-ice feel. 🕷️🏒🥅

“An injury is not just a process of recovery, it is a process of discovery…”

As tough as an injury can be physically, mentally, and emotionally, it can also become an opportunity—to address weaknesses, improve durability and capacity, and come back stronger. 💪

I’ve worked with athletes who, in the year leading into and during an Olympic year, broke bones, tore muscles, faced major setbacks… and still came back to set PBs and win gold medals.🥇

Setbacks don’t always define the outcome. Sometimes they become part of the story… taken in Grand Canyon National Park by @tyson_physio

Happy Olympic Day!!!
Little did this 7-year-old, Olympic-obsessed boy—who dreamed of one day competing and representing Canada at the Olympic Games—know that one day he would have the opportunity to attend 3 Olympic Games as part of @teamcanada’s medical team.

Over my career as a physiotherapist, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of Olympians, including 23 athletes who have gone on to win 37 Olympic medals.

More importantly, I’ve had a front-row seat to see what it truly takes to become an Olympian: effort, focus, determination, resilience, and years of hard work.

I feel incredibly fortunate that over the last 19 years, I’ve been able to support so many athletes on their journeys to the Olympic Games. I continue to be inspired and amazed by their passion, commitment, and pursuit of excellence.

Happy Olympic Day to all the athletes chasing BIG dreams — and to all the people supporting them along the way. taken in Canmore Nordic Centre by @tyson_physio

I was very fortunate to have @erinmielzynski as my practicum student over the past six weeks and genuinely enjoyed working in partnership with her.

Beyond the impact she made at @movesportclinic, the pool, the field, and the track, I also learned a great deal through our collaboration as we worked to provide the highest level of care possible for our patients and athletes. 💪

Our partnership was built on communication, collaboration, and always keeping our athletes’ best interests at the center of every decision.

Through multiple phone calls, Zoom meetings, and hundreds of texts back and forth, we consistently worked to ensure we were prepared and delivering our BEST for every athlete we had the opportunity to support.

Even as a student, Erin demonstrates all the qualities needed to be highly successful in the performance and healthcare field. Erin has a very bright future ahead of her, and I’m excited to see all that she accomplishes 💫 taken in Movement Sports Clinic by @tyson_physio
