2025 was a Great year, 2026 will be even better! This is our long awaited international meet recap. Big Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
@guimont_83 : A decent performance at his first World Championships despite some rough patches of training and a lot of back pain. Still came out with a 2.5 kg PR on deadlifts but unfortunately was not able to beat his PR total.
@angie_sbd : Beautiful performance at her first international meet. A 10 kg PR on squats with some room, a 7.5 kg PR on bench in the 76 kg weight class, and a big 15 kg PR on deadlifts, earning her a bronze medal on deadlifts. A 32.5 kg total PR. Very proud of her and all the efforts she has been putting in.
@alex_levesque_ : Very close 4th-place finish at his first international. PR match on squats with non-stiff knee sleeves, a 2.5 kg bench PR, and a very unfortunate downward motion on his third deadlift that would have given him the bronze medal overall. Very proud of how he showed up despite everything that has happened in prep.
@93kg.engineer : A perfect 9/9 meet for Simon with a 10 kg PR on squats, giving him a silver medal on squats. A solid PR match with room, since his foot slipped on his 2nd attempt and he retook it, and a big 15 kg PR on deadlifts. A nice 35 kg PR on his total at his first international meet.
@seung_wonnie - Aiden had his best prep yet and went on the international stage for his last meet as a junior to bench a 12.5kg PR in a very close battle to end with a silver medal. Aiden made all of us proud with his performance and will be back for more as an open lifter!
Honourable mention : Yumi went through a very difficult prep for NAPF’s but pushed through to finish with a 7.5kg PR on his bench (165kg) and a 5KG PR on his deadlift (312.5KG) to earn himself a bronze medal in the -105kg category. by @unityperformance.coaching

Here is our long awaited 2025 provs meet recap. The team keeps on getting better and better, lets get that best club title next year!

@marso.laurent : Amazing meet from Laurent breaking the Provincial Squat record and total record with even more room and a 40.5kg PR on his total. He is looking to take all of it at nats

@cobolift_ : first meet with cobo, a solid 26.5kg total PR, bumped up his own DL National record even higher despite a pretty big cut

@angie_sbd : Despite 4 back to back meets in only 7 months, Marie-Ange showed up very well with a Squat PR, a bench National record and a deadlift provincial record !

@kapav_83 : Beautiful podium finish and a 12.5kg total PR from Luh Brun, He is Enzi.

@wil_83kg : Absolutely perfect day for wilie with a 9/9, 27/27 day AND a 35kg total PR from only 3 months ago.

@74kgjamespyr : James came in with his best prep yet. A setback on his squat opener led to a conservative third, finishing 2.5 kg under his recent best. Bench followed the same pattern after glutes rose on his second attempt. He closed by matching his best deadlift and securing a bronze-medal position with room to spare.

@henrynguyen___ : very solid meet for Henry, came into the meet to have some fun and hit some nice lifts. 10kg total PR despite some missed lifts

@ldcourcy.66 : unfortunately had some pain appear 2-3weeks out of Provs that heavily affected squat and deads, we took the decision to just get in easy lifts to not trigger the pain while we keep rehabbing. Still hit a nice 12.5kg PR on bench

Thank you to our volunteers: @simon.laporte1 , @lzack_houle , @emeryckhoule , @charlotteesimard , @105_robz and @noemiemontpetit . by @unityperformance.coaching

Unity Performance 2025 Nationals Recap (Part I)

Very proud of every single one of our athletes.

@marso.laurent beautiful meet and veryy close miss on deadlifts that would have made him finish 3rd in this stacked class at only 18 years old, so much potential ahead of this man.

@alex_levesque_ beautiful podium finish for his first national meet in a stacked weight class, he just moved up to 105s and he will be causing some trouble in the class in the next years

@emeryckhoule first 9/9 meet with a big pr total. Time to fill out the class and chase even more. Very proud of the work he put in.

@93kg.engineer not the greatest conditions to finish the peak but as he always does, Simon came into the meet ready and gave it his all despite what happened in prep. Veryy proud of this guy.

@guslovesbarbella had some back pain in the end of prep causing squat top end strenght to slightly go down but he still showed up strong and bumped up his own provincial squat record again and only 5.5kg under the open national squat record with a couple of years left in junior. Very nice 2nd place finish and a spot on team Canada again for his second international meet in Cayman Islands!

@alyssia_pwr beautiful meet by Alyssia showing up strong on all 3, some unfortunate cramping on deads cause her top end strenght to not show up super well. Time to fill out the class and fix those issues and put up a big total at her next meet. Proud of her

@angie_sbd (Full Power) Very big total PR and a beautiful 3rd deadlift to tie first place on bodyweight and win her a national title on her first national meet earning her ticket to Costa Rica for junior worlds! Very proud of her and the effort she has been putting!

@angie_sbd (Bench only) Beautiful bench only meet with a nice pr and going 3/3 to earn her spot at an international bench only event.

Thank you @74kgjamespyr for the beautiful graphics for the recap

Pain is complex. Most of the times managing pain requires more than just ignoring it and pushing through or taking time off. Understand the problem, modify what hurts, keep moving as much as you can, and progressively rebuild capacity / tolerance to what hurts. by @unityperformance.coaching

Ben came to me with a herniated disc, intense back pain, and a 462.5kg total.
2 years later:
175 → 235kg Squat
97.5 → 147.5kg Bench
185 → 250kg Deadlift
462.5 → 632.5kg Total
The biggest lesson?
Programming trends are great starting points but not rules.
Once we stopped trying to make Ben fit the typical 59kg lifter guideline and started building around his actual training response, progress became faster, more predictable, and pain-free.
Huge thanks to @bentren66 for trusting the process.
The best programming isn’t the most impressive.
It’s the one the athlete can consistently adapt to. by @unityperformance.coaching

Why your cues might be failing and what to do about it.

Internal cues, external cues, movement constraints… There’s a lot of debate about which one is ā€œbest.ā€ But here’s the reality: there is no perfect answer.

The research leans toward external cueing and movement constraints for force production and skill acquisition. That doesn’t mean internal cues are useless though.

It all comes down to context:

The lifter’s experience level, how they process information, the specific technical issue you’re trying to address, and the phase of training they’re in.

Some lifters respond instantly to internal cues and others need to hear another cue to finally get into a better position. And sometimes no cue works at all. That’s when modifying the exercise itself can do what words can’t.

Every coach develops their own system. Their own manner of communicating technical fixes. What matters isn’t following one method. It’s getting to know your lifter and adapting to them.

The best tool is the one that creates the desired movement pattern for that athlete in that moment. by @unityperformance.coaching

Unity Performance 2025

Nationals Recap (Part II)

Very proud of every single one of our athletes.

@yumiboi_105 Yumi delivered an incredible 8/9 performance, pushing himself to the limit in pursuit of gold. He went 3/3 on squats with a 10kg competition PR and plenty left in the tank. On bench, he powered through months of a pec strain to hit a 5kg PR. For deadlifts, he loaded up to secure the top spot but narrowly missed 315kg at lockout, still walking away with a 7.5kg PR. This is just the beginning
—his drive is stronger than ever, and he’ll be back.

@74kgjamespyr James had a rough start, missing his third squat attempt due to unfortunate circumstances. But he came back strong, going 3/3 on bench and matching his PB with more in the tank. On deadlifts, he executed perfectly, hitting all three attempts to break the 600kg total and securing a massive 22.5kg meet PR. Once he comes in properly peaked for squats, he’ll be ready to make a serious statement.

@chris.ntn Chris came in locked and loaded, going 8/9 and nearly securing a podium spot. He crushed squats with a 35kg meet PR and added 10kg to his bench-so smooth he claims he faked the grind. A missed third deadlift due to a technical mistake (silly Chris) didn’t stop him from walking away with a 17.5kg PR.
In his final year as a sub-junior, he’s hungrier than ever, chasing bigger numbers with no signs of slowing down.

@seung_wonnie Seung Won Lee (Aiden) dominated the 66kg bench-only class, taking first place and securing his spot at Bench-Only NAPFs. He put up a 7.5kg competition PR with plenty left in the tank, proving there’s much more to come. This October, he’ll be representing Canada on the international stage, ready to show the world what he’s truly capable of.

@guimont_83 securing first place with a 7/9 performance and a 10kg total PR—a new provincial record. He added 11.5kg to his current provincial record on squats. This summer, he’ll represent Canada with his sights set on a 740kg+ total, ready to make a statement on the international stage.

What is training ā€œmomentumā€ ???

In the context of powerlifting specifically, training momentum means making steady progress over time by sticking to a well thought program that follows the needs of a lifter and staying disciplined overtime. As a lifter follows their program, they gradually get stronger, improve their technique, and perform to the best of their ability . Once they build this momentum, it becomes easier to keep getting stronger and improving over time.

Of course this depends on every lifters, some need to touch some high average intensity but building a solid plan on how to accumulate good training days/ weeks and blocks is the key to consistency and PRs in the long run.

If you are interested in some coaching or want to debate that subject shoot me a dm!

Trying out this informational stuff so if you got tips to make it cleaner dont hesitate to let me know!
