POSTS STORIES REELS

Incredibly proud to share today we go live with our Signature Programme “Unleash The Player Within” Volume 2!!!

I spent my 16 year career in Pro Football in the background. I was labelled as quiet, silent, mute, an overthinker, too serious, different, not a “typical footballer”.

What was missed was that in my mind and my heart I was observing, listening, learning, taking mental notes, understanding the gaps, the dysfunctional dynamics, all of the issues within the industry & then going home & writing all of this down, hoping that one day I would be able to create the solutions.

The football industry can be an extremely challenging place to be.

In my humble opinion, human beings who choose to engage in the industry & embark upon the journey to becoming a “Professional Footballer” need to have available to them a comprehensive list of skills, to be able to thrive within the industry & unlock their full potential.

“Unleash The Player Within” helps players to build deep fundamental skills, on a mental, emotional, physical, intellectual & spiritual level, which will be at the core of their experience, such as connection with their Why, Purpose and Values, their ability to manage their Mind (Head) & Emotions (Heart) through stressors & challenges (on & off pitch), & how to build, manage & nurture successful long lasting relationships; with self first, others & football itself... And so much more.

I have been fortunate enough to have already walked beside many players & guide them to make massive transformation, both in their development and overall performance, as a player & as a human being.

In November last year I had a meeting that changed my life. Since then I have taken on another mentor, an elite mind in this space, I have started my UEFA B, I have completed Mod 3 of Professional Core Energy Leadership Coach Training with @ipeccoaching & completely redeveloped our Signature Programme.

Today we celebrate the birth of a programme that is ready to be unleashed into the world & help many players on their journey.

If you’re ready to change your life then this Programme is for you…

Get in touch and let’s Unleash The Player Within You!

Success Story…

In January of this year (2024) Brooke & I entered into a collaboration, working together to improve & level up his skillset in order for him to be able to take care of both his Mind & Body, and thus improve his Performance & Wellbeing both on and off the pitch.

Over the last few months I have taught Brooke specific Breathing, Meditation, Yoga, Mindfulness & Healing techniques, as well as Mobility & Strength exercises, that he has implemented into his daily practice, to bulletproof his Mind & Body.

Brooke is an @arsenal player who is currently on loan at Championship side @millwallfc

Having just turned 20 he has already played 40+ games this season, contributing with some crucial goals & assists for the team.

Because of the incredible work ethic he has and the consistent daily work he does on his Mind and Body, he has missed just 5 games all season. A very impressive statistic for a young man playing in the highest echelons of men’s football.

Brooke has also recently been called up to represent @england at U21 level - an incredible achievement and thoroughly deserved.

Let Brooke’s story be an inspiration to you, that anything is possible if you first believe and then put in the work to make it happen.

It has been a pleasure to work with Brooke, a young man with an Elite Mentality & the Willingness to do everything he can to be the absolute best version of himself he can be.

This young man is heading for a BIG future in the game. A fantastic player, a model professional & and even better human being. Watch this space…

Reflection & Lesson -

Almost 2 years ago, when I first started working closely with my mentor @dr.robbieanderson we had to decide in which direction I wanted to go in.

Who did I want to be? What was I trying to achieve? What further education / credentials did I need to progress my career? How and where was Unleash The Player going to make its biggest impact?

Fast forward almost 2 years, endless of hours of work behind the scenes, time, energy, investment into self and the process… and look where we are now @ipeccoaching @the_pfa

What a week!

Super proud moment, and a clear reminder to all of us that in the end, you always get out what you put in.

Keep going, keep going, keep going 💪🏻

OFFICIAL CLUB STATEMENT | FROM THE OWNERS

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Myles Anderson as First Team Player-Manager and Adrian Whitbread as Assistant Manager of AFC Welwyn.

As owners, we have always been ambitious about where we want to take this football club. We are building something special at AFC Welwyn, and these appointments represent another important step in our journey.

Myles brings passion, determination and leadership, and we are confident his appointment as Player-Manager will help drive the standards and mentality we want throughout the club. Alongside him, Adrian brings valuable experience, knowledge and a wealth of football expertise that will be instrumental in helping us achieve our goals.

Together, they have the qualities to build a competitive, exciting and successful team that reflects the identity and ambition of AFC Welwyn.

Our vision has always extended beyond results on the pitch. We want to build a football club that our supporters, players and local community can be proud of — a club with genuine ambition, a strong identity and a clear pathway for long-term success.

We are fully committed to supporting Myles and Adrian, both on and off the pitch, and providing them with the foundations they need to take this club forward.

This is an exciting new chapter for AFC Welwyn, and we look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.

We would also like to thank our supporters for their continued backing. Your support is central to everything we are trying to build, and we hope you will join us in giving Myles and Adrian a fantastic welcome.

This has got to be one of my favourite photos ever!

2 years ago I was introduced to a 19 year old Abdullah @abz_yb , who had not long been released from @lcfc Leicester City FC.

He was going through an understandably difficult moment, what most academy kids experience, following their release.

Abdullah joined our signature Unleash The Player Within programme and our objective was to build Abdullah back up holistically, and get his love back for the beautiful game of Football.

Soon he was back playing Football and shining for @hanworthvilla with whom he even achieved promotion last season.

Fast forward 2 years, and here we are together in an incredible full circle moment, now as Player Manager & Player!

Following on from a 6 month period of injury, Abdullah needed a place to get some minutes to build physically. Thankfully Simon and our friends at @hanworthvilla have allowed Abs to join us at AFC Welwyn to do this.

What a wonderful experience for us to share the pitch together on Monday night, as our @afc_welwyn team won back to back league games to enter into the playoff places for the first time this season.

And how wonderful to share this moment with his beautiful parents too! ❤️

Life and Football in particular really does provide us with some magical moments & special memories along the way.

Enjoy every second ⚽️

Myles ❤️ by @unleashtheplayer

Ten days into Management and I’m learning very quickly that this profession is all about decision making.

The question is...

What process do you actually go through in order to make what you believe to be the best decision in a particular moment?

One of the ways I like to do this is by coming back to my personal philosophy, my values, my beliefs & see what most aligns.

On Saturday we had a cup game against a team 2 leagues below us.

After winning my first ever game as a Player Manager on Tuesday night, I had some decisons to make regarding team selection -

Do I go full strength & perhaps secure back to back Wins as a Manager?

Do I give space to players who haven’t played as much, & focus more on the “positive” impact of giving these guys game time, rather than fearing the potential consequences of experiencing a “negative” result?

So I took a step back & aligned with some of my core values & beliefs that I am using to build the culture at the Football Club.

Below are just a few examples -

“Whole Group / Team First Mentality”
“Player and Person empowerment” (Human being first)
“One cannot make a mistake” (@ipeccoaching)
“Ego transcendence a non-negotiable”
“Football is a gift and a vehicle to put a smile back on faces”
“Bravery / Courage over Fear”
“Authenticity over Perception”
“Lead with love over anger”
“Play from Passion over Resentment”
“Long term vision over short term win”

We ended up losing the game 3-2.

A difficult result to take of course.

The Player, the Competitor, the Warrior within me is hurt.

The Manager, the Leader, the Teacher within me is proud.

Inside, I feel peace.

On reflection, combining all of my core values & beliefs from above, this makes sense, as we can recognise that I made the decision that felt most aligned with who I am as a Leader & what I want our Culture to represent.

Tonight we have another game & another opportunity.

And I, as the leader, look forward to making more decisions that align with my Personal Philosophy; the values, beliefs & the Culture that I endeavour to create.

I’m super curious to hear...

What decisions would you have made & how do you make them?

Energetically,
Myles 🙏❤️⚽️ by @unleashtheplayer

I’ve been reflecting on my first week of Management since our superb win on Tuesday night, my first ever as a Player Manager.

I feel like this video (yes, that’s me at 36 going for the overhead kick) perfectly captures what the week has looked like.

In Italy we used the expression “un macello” when things felt overwhelming, all over the place, up in the air, a mess.

Which feels appropriate when you look at what’s happening in this penalty box!

Multiple moving parts. Decisions to make. Uncomfortable conversations. Uncertainty.

In 7 days, I’ve had to make difficult decisions around players, calm the team & lift the group (myself included) through adversity, have challenging conversations with experienced players, balance Management with running Unleash The Player full-time, recognise quickly that I need the right people around me, & continue to build relationships with players, staff & ownership, making sure people feel seen, heard & valued.

One thing I’m learning about Leadership is that it’s not about having everything figured out.

It’s about stepping into uncertainty.

Having the courage to make bold decisions.

Leaning into difficult conversations.

Taking responsibility.

Walking towards the discomfort, even when you don’t know how it’s going to turn out.

Which brings me back to the overhead kick...

Maybe not the smartest decision I’ve ever made!

But, I went for it. I fully committed.

And you never know what can happen when you do...

Cue the 80th minute winner that sparked wild celebrations ❤️

A few takeaways from Week 1:

Follow your dreams. Commit fully. Go all in.

You don’t always know what will happen when you take the leap, but you’ll never know unless you go for it.

Prepare for the opportunities you can’t yet see.

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” -Seneca

When fear shows up, identify it as a signal towards your biggest opportunity for growth.

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough” -Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

And finally… Life, Football, it’s all about the people.

Connection, Family, Belonging. Love.

As Pep & Jose both expressed -

“We all just want to be loved”.

Energetically,
Myles 🙏❤️⚽️ by @unleashtheplayer

People don’t always see what’s really going on behind the scenes at a Football Club.

Nor do they get insight into an individual’s mind, heart & intuition (“Holographic Thinking” @ipeccoaching) & how these dimensions dance together in one’s decision making process.

My introduction to Football Management has been an absolute whirlwind. A rollercoaster of emotions. Managing my negative parrot has been a full-time job!

The Manager who brought me to the Club as his Player Assistant Manager & Team Captain decided to step away to take charge of another team.

I was asked to step in.

Suddenly, I faced some difficult questions.

How could I walk away from a group who, over 3 months, had invested endless hours building connection, culture, performance & a genuine feeling of family?

Almost half the players were people I had helped bring to the Club. The others people I had developed such deep love, respect & passion for.

I’m supposed to be their leader. How could I walk away at this moment of adversity?

Then there was the man who gave me the opportunity to join his Management Team, gain my first experience as Player Assistant Manager & the trust to lean into the leader within me.

A man I have huge love & respect for & a friendship that extends far beyond football.

How could I not follow him when perhaps he needed my support most?

Then there were the Owners - Incredible people who had lost their Manager & had come to me with trust for help & guidance to lead their Club.

Finally, some of the deeper questions I had to ask myself -

How much am I actually enjoying Football at @afc_welwyn?

At 36, how much longer will I play?

What do I really want from life?

Where is the scariest challenge? Where is the greatest opportunity for growth?

Which decision aligns with my values, goals & the future version of myself I want to become?

Perhaps leadership isn’t about having all the answers right now.

Perhaps it’s about sitting in the uncertainty, enjoying that dance between mind, heart & intuition, & having the courage to choose what feels most aligned, even if you notice the fear turning up the volume!

I’m curious… What would you have done?

Energetically,
Myles 🙏❤️ by @unleashtheplayer

Super proud moment🌟

Today we celebrate becoming an ICF Associate Certified Coach 🚀 @icfheadquarters @ipeccoaching

Over 5 years ago I began a mission to make the Football World a better place… Or failing that, at least to educate and equip the Players who dare enter into it with the psychological skills required to thrive in what is quite frankly a frightening industry.

Thousands of hours of work, study, healing, self-implementation first of course, and then coaching & teaching of others, coupled with an infinite curiosity and willingness to learn, develop, get better and be able to help others in the most impactful areas of Professional Sport where I came up short, has led to this milestone.

Over the past 5 years I have shown to myself time & time again that I am so MUCH MORE than “just a Footballer”.

And YOU absolutely are too! Whatever your job / career is, that is NOT your whole identity and it does not define you.

Feeling eternally grateful for all of my mentors, coaches, lead trainers, psychologists, therapists, cohorts, peers, clients, family & friends who have all played their part on the journey, as I have on theirs.

Super excited to share pictures of some of the guys in this post who have made this all possible. I don’t think I’ve been able to include everyone. Anyone missing, you know who you are and that we love you.

(Important to note that any clients pictured have given permission and have the freedom to request to be removed should they no longer feel comfortable!)

HARLOW TOWN 1–1 AFC WELWYN

The points are shared this afternoon after another positive display from the Romans.

Myles Anderson put us ahead with just eight minutes remaining, reacting quickest after seeing his initial header saved and firing home the rebound to give Welwyn a deserved lead.

Unfortunately, the advantage lasted less than a minute as Harlow responded almost immediately to level the scores.

🎙️ Scott Patmore:
“A really positive performance from us today. You can see the team becoming more tactically aware with every game we play and that’s really encouraging. We worked hard to get ourselves in front and Myles did brilliantly to react after his header was saved and finish the rebound. The disappointing part is that we switched off mentally for a moment straight after scoring and it cost us the opportunity to take all three points. Overall, I think a draw was probably a fair result. It’s another point on the board, another positive performance and it keeps us right in the mix.”

⚽ Myles Anderson

We keep moving. Up the Romans! 🩷💙
