This weekend we gathered at @wendemuseum to celebrate the audiobook launch of Baghdad Underground Railroad by Steve Miska. This important memoir reveals how Steve created an underground network to help Iraqi interpreters escape persecution, offering insights into wartime compassion, the relationships built under impossible circumstances, and a detailed explanation of just how interpreters help U.S. troops, the tight friendship and almost familial relationships they build, and the troubles these allies face as they wait for their special visas to clear so they and their families can enter the United States. Steve served as an officer in the United States Army for 25 years, served in the White House as Director for Iraq on the National Security Council, and led a @nooneleftbehindus 24-hour hotline to organize evacuations for Afghan allies for over two years. Steve can be followed at @wranglingandwriting, as he travels the U.S. on a self-guided equine therapy tour of our vast, beautiful country. Thank you @usvaa_ and @pacificcouncil for your partnership and sponsoring the beautiful Afghan dinner served by the Ashgary family and desserts by Huma Rahmani through @newarrivalsupperclub by @usvaa_
The Baghdad Underground Railroad audiobook is coming soon and we’re throwing a party! 🥳 This collaboration was so much fun! 🫡 As an artist, author and veteran, the opportunity to work with Holland America Line and Crane Stationery was a privilege. 🌎 How many letters have I sent to friends stationed all over the world on Crane cards? Now I know Crane has supplied paper for the American Colony’s first paper money, for Jackie Kennedy and even Jimmy Fallon. 🚢 How many times did I study World War I & II history at the Air Force Academy? I didn’t realize until this project that Holland America sailed straight through the history of those very pages! ⛴️ It’s crazy to think about how full circle life can be sometimes. 💌 I think all the journeys of our lives become stories worth sharing. It is my sincere hope that this commemorative line of stationery enables people to do just that. 🇺🇸 Happy 250th Anniversary America! #hollandamericalineinfluencer #ad by @usvaa_
Meet Jen LaVita, a featured artist for our latest stationery collection. Through our America 250 collaboration with @crane.stationery and the @usvaa_ , Jen captures the ultimate feeling of being at sea. For Jen, nature is her number one muse, and she channeled that love for exploration into vibrant watercolor designs that assign a distinct time of day, color palette, and "vibe" to the ships in our fleet. Swipe to see how Jen uses her art to inspire viewers to dream up their own next big adventure. by @usvaa_
This Independence Day, USVAA is honored to join @crane.stationery and @hollandamericaline as they mark our nation's 250th with a commemorative card collection that honors America and the stories that connect us. Rooted in heritage and craftsmanship and illustrated by military veterans @mydandeliondays, @jenlavitaart and @artebybones, the cards depict Holland America Line's full fleet and showcases the company's iconic tulip. Printed on Crane's signature Americn-made cotton paper and contained in box sets, each contains a narrative of its own and celebrates our shared tradition of excellence. Order your cards today at http://www.crane.com/collection/holland-america The cards are also available for purchase on all Holland America ships this summer. by @usvaa_
⛴️ Introducing the Nieuw Amsterdam! 🤭 Am I allowed to have a favorite? (🤫Shh… don’t tell Holland America LOL). I think it might be this ship, and the reason for that is the history behind it.  📝 In my blog, I go into way more detail about the history of Holland America (and Crane, omg! Paul Revere!?). But it is important to note during my ship research I learned the original Nieuw Amsterdam sailed half a million miles transporting 400,000 troops for allied forces during World War II.  🫡 In honor of this legacy and with an eye toward the future, I unofficially titled the painting “Fair Winds and Following Seas” in encouragement of smooth voyages, new beginnings, and successful journeys.  #hollandamericalineinfluencer #ad by @usvaa_

#hollandamericalineinfluencer #ad 🚢 Introducing the Noordam! 🌅 Have you ever been on a cruise where the sun casts a brilliant orange through the entire sky? I decided to play with that by painting the Noordam at sunset. I loved the Dutch Orange brand color of Holland America Line, and it felt perfect to use it in this way. In keeping with the unique journey of every ship, the Noordam faces her own direction. 🧡 I unofficially titled this painting “Sail at Sunset.” by @usvaa_
In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Crane and Holland America Line have come together to create a collection that honors heritage, craftsmanship, and the stories that connect us. Featured here, Savour the Journey, showcases Holland America Line’s iconic tulip, beautifully interpreted by Amy R. Roberts from the United States Veterans’ Artists Alliance and printed on Crane’s signature American-made cotton paper. The collection also includes an 11-card boxed set celebrating Holland America Line’s fleet, making each piece a keepsake of artistry, travel, and American tradition. @hollandamericaline @usvaa_ #CraneStationery #HollandAmericaLine #America250 #MadeInAmerica #usvaa by @usvaa_
Being a veteran artist has given back to me in ways I never imagined. My involvement with USVAA specifically has made my service an asset as a professional artist. Collaborating with @hollandamericaline and @crane.stationery for America’s 250th birthday is just one amazing project I’ve been honored to be a part of. Along with my fellow female Veteran artists, Lindsay “Bones” Cordero and Amy R. Roberts, we have created 12 illustrations. I’m proud to share this collection of mine and my fellow female Veterans’ artwork. Forever grateful to get to do what I love everyday and call it work. Special thanks to USVAA for being a supportive partner in that success. @artebybones @mydandeliondays @usvaa_ by @usvaa_
#hollandamericalineinfluencer #ad 🚢 Introducing the Zuiderdam! 🌅 I wanted each ship to have its own environment to sail through, so the Zuiderdam coasts through water at sunrise. Each ship faces its own direction, which was an intentional way I differentiated them in their respective seascapes. 🛳 I unofficially titled this painting “Sail at Sunrise.” by @usvaa_
