Love The Hair You Wear 2025 at A&T. These photos from student photographer @stitchphotographic tell the story so well. Stunning work.

And a big thank you to @michellefaleese for holding the mic and holding the room. You did such a beautiful job guiding the program and keeping us grounded.

Shout out to our special guests @aqyila @morgiemone you were so pleasant & I had fun interacting with you!! Love both of you ladies warm energy!

I was nervous about my one on one interview with @aprylsjones but you are so cool and down to earth the conversation flowed so naturally. Thanks for dropping gems & sharing your story with us. Staying grounded during these turbulent times is so necessary!

Still in reflection mode. Still grateful! taken in North Carolina A&T State University by @vecoya

Most days I’m in leggings, sneakers, and trying to get from one thing to the next. But every once in a while, I put on a dress, take a little extra time getting ready, and remember that slowing down long enough to feel beautiful isn’t superficial… it’s restorative.

Confidence doesn’t always come from compliments. Sometimes it comes from looking in the mirror and thinking, ‘I feel good today.’

Can I be honest … social media can be intimidating & posting consistently is hard.

It’s easy to pour time into creating something, hit “post,” and if it doesn’t perform the way you hoped, convince yourself that nobody cares.

But lately I’m trying to treat posting like data instead of assuming ppl don’t care what I have to say. That simple shift is helping me keep showing up instead of getting discouraged.

This past month, I posted consistently, and I’m closing in on 100,000 views. The views are exciting, but I’m even more proud that I didn’t let the quieter posts stop me from creating.

One thing I’ve learned from planning events over the years: Start with the feeling, not the decorations.

Before we bought anything, I asked myself one question: How do I want people to feel when they walk into the room?

For Eugene’s 40th, the answer was easy elegant and celebratory. That one decision made every other decision easier.

My cousin @designsrus_epc absolutely brought the vision to life, and one of the best decisions I made was trusting her to own the decor while I focused on the guest experience. It reminded me that good planning isn’t about doing everything yourself … it’s about knowing where your energy is best spent.

If you’re planning an event, ask yourself this before buying a single decoration: How do I want people to feel? I promise it’ll make every decision after that so much easier.

There’s always that moment before everyone arrives when you wonder if everything is going to come together. And then the candles are lit, everything flows and you realize the planning was totally worth it.

My hope is that you left this dinner feeling celebrated & deeply loved. Happy 40th birthday to you my love @eugene__banks 🎉🥂🎂 here’s to many more!!

Shout out to my cousin @designsrus_epc YOU DID THAT!! This table setting was EVERYTHANG 🔥 by @vecoya

Lately, life has been full. Work. Event planning. Family. Deadlines.

So spending a few hours at Super Nintendo World wasn’t just fun … it was a reminder that it’s okay to enjoy something simply because it brings you joy.

The attention to detail is incredible, the interactive games are so well done, and I had no idea the Power-Up Band would even work with my Nintendo Switch after I got home. 🎮

It’s funny… I originally thought this would be an experience I’d save for my kids. Instead, it reminded me that adults need play too.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is give yourself permission to be fully present … even if it’s just for a couple of hours.

10/10. I’d absolutely go back.

Last week, I was behind the camera while Eugene spoke to a 1000+educators. And let me tell you… he runs a tight ship. 😂 I was getting all the angles & did a great job if I say so myself 💁🏽‍♀️

I like showing up for him. But one thing I didn’t expect was how I would get inspired by the conference itself. I was asking the team about how the activations were set up, asking questions about how different teams worked together, and paying attention to the little details that most attendees probably walked right past. One thing that really stood out to me was how engaged the event staff and activation teams were. They weren’t just there to “work” the event, they were part of the experience. That energy made a difference, and it’s definitely something I’m thinking about as we plan Love the Hair You Wear.

That’s a plus about supporting someone else’s dream.

People see the event. They don’t always see the calls, planning sessions, spreadsheets, follow-ups, budget conversations, venue searches, sponsor meetings, and revisions that happen months before anyone walks through the doors.

Building Love the Hair You Wear has taught me that consistency isn’t glamorous, but it’s necessary. November will be here before we know it. Every meeting is another brick being laid. What brick are you laying this week? by @vecoya

One thing physical therapy has taught me is that preparation matters just as much as the workout. Before I head to the track, I’ve been spending a few minutes stretching and wearing compression sleeves to give my knees a little extra support (the sleeves understand the assignment too!)

One stretch that’s made a noticeable difference for me is the heel-drop calf stretch (standing on the edge of a step and slowly lowering one heel). It stretches the calf and Achilles while helping improve ankle mobility; something that can affect how your knees handle impact.
Heel-drop calf stretch

✔️ Loosens calves

✔️ Improves ankle mobility

✔️ Helps me feel more prepared before running

What’s one stretch that’s been a game-changer for you? by @vecoya
